  • Lead-cooled fast reactors (LFRs) have a wide range of application scenarios, which require the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of LFRs to be reliable. In the present paper, the Lead-cooled fast reactor Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis Code LETHAC was developed, including the models of pipe, heat exchanger, and pool. To verify the correctness of LETHAC, two experimental facilities and three experimental cases were selected, including GFT and PLOFA tests for NACIE-UP and Test-1 for CIRCE. The calculated results show the same and consistent trend with the experimental data, but there are some discrepancies. It can be found that LETHAC is suitable and reliable in predicting the transient behavior of lead-cooled system.

  • Pool boiling heat transfer is widely applied in nuclear engineering fields. The influence of heating surface orientation on the pool boiling heat transfer has received extensive attention. In this study, the heating surface with different roughness was adopted to conduct pool boiling experiments at different inclination angles. Based on the boiling curves and bubble images, the effects of inclination angle on the pool boiling heat transfer and critical heat flux were analyzed. When the inclination angle was bigger than 90°, the bubble size increased with the increase of inclination angle. Both the bubble departure frequency and critical heat flux decreased as the inclination angle increased. The existing theoretical models about pool boiling heat transfer and critical heat flux were compared. From the perspective of bubble agitation model and Hot/Dry spot model, the experimental phenomena could be explained reasonably. The enlargement of bubble not only could enhance the agitation of nearby liquid but also would cause the bubble to stay longer on the heating surface. Consequently, the effect of inclination angle on the pool boiling heat transfer was not conspicuous. With the increase of inclination angle, the rewetting of heating surface became much more difficult. It has negative effect on the critical heat flux. This work provides experimental data basis for heat transfer and CHF performance of pool boiling.

  • This paper describes the experimental framework for the control system design and validation of a rotorcraft unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Our approach follows the general procedure of nonlinear modeling, linear controller design, nonlinear simulation and flight test but uses an indoor-installed multi-camera system, which can provide full 6-degree of freedom (DOF) navigation information with high accuracy, to overcome the limitation of an outdoor flight experiment. In addition, a 3-DOF flying mill is used for the performance validation of the attitude control, which considers the characteristics of the multi-rotor type rotorcraft UAV. Our framework is applied to the design and mathematical modeling of the control system for a quad-rotor UAV, which was selected as the test-bed vehicle, and the controller design using the classical proportional-integral-derivative control method is explained. The experimental results showed that the proposed approach can be viewed as a successful tool in developing the controller of new rotorcraft UAVs with reduced cost and time.

  • To find the effects of pressure on critical heat flux (CHF) for the conditions of low pressures (especially up to 10 bar) and low mass flux (~300 kg/$m^2$s), a series of experiments have been accomplished by using uniformly heated Inconel-625 tube. The experimental ranges are as follows: pressure (from 1.2 to 8 bar). mass velocities (from 100 to 250 kg/$m^2$s) and the inlet subcooling ($\Delta$h$_{i}$ = 350 kJ/kg). According to the experimental data, it is found that the CHF is nearly independent of the pressure and increases with mass flux. From the results of the CHF correlation assessment for this experimental data, we could find somewhat different tendency of CHF behavior from every other CHF prediction correlation and table.ation and table.

  • Open MRI is a new concept in clinical application of the MRI such as interventional study. Receiving RF coils used in the open MRI must have open structures to insure convenient manipulations fur the patient. In this paper, we presented experimental study fur open head coil suitable to 0.3 Tesla vertical field MRI system with its experimental results.

  • The condonation models in the standard RELAP5/MOD3.2 code are assessed and improved based on the database, which is constructed from the previous experimental data on various condonation phenomena The default model the laminar film condonation in RELAP5/MOD3.2 does not give any reliable predictions, and its alternative model always predicts higher values than the experimental data Therefore, it is needed to develop a new correlation based on the experimental data of various operating ranges in the constructed database. The Shah correlation, which is used to calculate the turbulent film condensation heat transfer coefficients in the standard RELAP5/MOD3.2, well predicts the experimental data in the database. The horizontally stratified condonation model of RELAP5/MOD3.2 overpredicts both cocurrent and countercurrent experimental data The correlation proposed by H.J.Kim predicts the database relatively well compared with that of RELAP5/MOD3.2 The RELAP5/MOD3.2 model should use the liquid velocity for the calculation of the liquid Reynolds number and be modified to conifer the effects of the gas velocity and the film thickness.

  • SSTF(Samsung Superconducting Test Facility) has been constructed at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology to test the KSTAR(Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) superconducting magnets and conductors. The SSTF DAC(Data Acquisition and Control) system basically consists of VME I/O modules, host PCs, and Ethernet links. VxWorks is used for the real-time OS of the VME IOC(Input/output Controller). EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) provides a software architecture for the communication between IOCs and host PCs. For the efficient management of measured data, the database management programs through NFS(Network File System) have been developed and successfully operated. In this paper, the current status of the SSTF DAC system, DBMS(DataBase Management System), recent test results, and future plans are presented.

  • Average and local convective heat transfer coefficients of nitrogen are measured experimentally in an electrically heated circular tube for a range of Reynolds number from 1.08 × 104 to 3.60 × 104, and wall-to-bulk temperature ratio from 1.01 to 1.77. The exit Mach number is up to 0.17, and the heat flux is up to 46 kW·m-2. The molybdenum test section has a 62 diameters heated section with an inside diameter of 5 mm and a 30 diameters entrance section to ensure the fully-developed flow. Uncertainty of Nusselt number is less than 1.6 % in this study. The results indicate that the average heat transfer correlations evaluated by both the bulk and the modified film Reynolds numbers agree well with the experimental data. The local heat transfer results based on bulk properties are compared with previous empirical correlations. New prediction correlations are recommended which are significantly affected by the property variation and heated length. The comparison between the proposed correlations and experimental points shows that 88 % of experimental data fall into an error of 10 %, and almost all data are within an error of 20 %.

  • A newly developed type PCHE(Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger), which has a longitudinal corrugation flow channel, was fabricated using etching and diffusion bonding to evaluate its hydraulic performance. The pressure drop characteristics obtained from the experimental results are presented and the local friction factors associated with different hydraulic diameters and inclination angles are discussed. The results of a three-dimensional numerical simulation are presented, conducted using commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) software at lower Reynolds number range. The numerical results were validated by experimental data obtained from helium gas experimental apparatus. The results of CFD prediction show fairly good agreement with the experimental data.
