  • Adsorption characteristics of erythrosine dye onto the activated carbon has been investigated in a batch system with respect to initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Kinetic studies of the adsorption of erythrosine were carried out at 298 K, using aqueous solutions with 100, 250 and 500 mg/L concentration of erythrosine. The adsorption process followed a pseuo second order model, and the adsorption rate constant (k2) decreased with increasing the initial concentration of erythrosine. The equilibrium process can be well discribed by Freundlich isotherm in the temperature range from 298 to 318 K. Free energy of adsorption (${\Delta}G^o$), enthalpy (${\Delta}H^o$), and entropy (${\Delta}S^o$) change were calculated to predict the nature the adsorption. The estimated values for ${\Delta}G^o$ were -3.72~-9.62 kJ/mol over the activated carbon at 250 mg/L, indicated toward a spontaneous process. The positve value for ${\Delta}H^o$ indicates that the adsorption of erythrosine dye on activated carbon is an endothermic process.

  • Adsorption of brilliant blue FCF dye using coal based the granular activated carbon from aqueous solution was investigated. Batch experiments were carried out as a function of the adsorbent dose, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The equilibrium adsorption data were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models. The results indicate that Freundlich model provides the best correlation of the experimental data. Base on the estimated Freundlich constant (1/n = 0.129~0.212), this process could be employed as an effective treatment method. Adsorption data were modeled using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic equations. It was shown that the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation could describe well the adsorption kinetics. The negative Gibbs free energy value (-4.81~-10.33 kJ/mol) and positive enthalpy value (+78.59 kJ/mol) indicated that the adsorption was a spontaneous and endothermic process.

  • Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-modified bentonite (EMB) was used for adsorption of zinc ion (Zn) from aqueous solution, compared with unmodified bentonite (UB). Parameters such as dose (0.750 ~ 3.125 g/L), mixing intensity (10 ~ 150 rpm), contact time (0.17 ~ 30 min), pH (2 ~ 7), and temperature (298 ~ 338 K), were studied. Zn removal efficiency for EMB was 20 ~ 30 % higher, than that for UB, in all experiments. Thermodynamic studies demonstrated that adsorption process was spontaneous with Gibb's free energy (${\Delta}G$) values, ranging between -5.211 and -7.175 kJ/mol for EMB, and -0.984 and -2.059 kJ/mol for UB, and endothermic with enthalpy (${\Delta}H$) value of 9.418 kJ/mol for EMB and 7.022 kJ/mol for UB. Adsorption kinetics was found to follow the pseudo-second order kinetics model, and its rate constant was 3.41 for EMB and $2.00g/mg{\cdot}min$ for UB. Adsorption equilibrium data for EMB were best represented by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and calculated maximum adsorption capacity was 2.768 mg/g. It was found that the best conditions for Zn removal of EMB within the range of operation used, were 3.125 g/L dose, 90 rpm intensity, 10 min contact time, pH 4, and 338 K. Therefore, EMB has good potential for adsorption of Zn.

  • In order to investigate a practical application of fibrous adsorbents to heavy metal ions, amidoxime fibers, as a particular class of solid chelate agents, were prepared by hydroxylamine treatment for acrylic fibers in a recipe of neutralization. Among the important problems from plant effluents are toxic concentrations of heavy metals such as copper. Accordingly, the properties of Cu (II) adsorption and its chelates were studied. The results obtained are as follows; The fibrous adsorbents have the property of increasing the swelling volumes by amidoximation. The adsorption of Cu (II) ion is characterized by an endothermic reaction, which is estimated as the plus values in the enthalpy change ($\delta$H=1.30 Kcal/mol. and 3.14 Kcal/mol.). The Cu (II) ions are adsorbed in the range of pH $3\~8$ and the maximum adsorptions are occurred about pH 8. Owing to the anions $(NO_3^-,\;Cl^-)$ of copper salts, amidoxime fibers form 1:1 and 2:1 (ligand: metal) chelating complexes with Cu (II). The nitrate anion chelates to amide I (NH) of amidoxime groups and the chlorine anion does to nitrosyl (NO). These effects relate to the crystallization of the complex and the thermal property.

  • The addition of ferric ferrocyanide (Prussian blue; PB) to adsorbents could enhance the adsorption performance of 133Cs. Toward this goal, we present a heterogeneously integrated carbonaceous material platform consisting of PB in direct contact with CO2-activated carbon filters (PB-CACF). The resulted sample retains 24.39% more PB than vice versa probed by the ultraviolet-visible spectrometer. We leverage this effect to capture 133Cs in the aqueous environment via the increase in ionic strength and micropores. We note that the amount of PB was likely to be the key factor for 133Cs adsorption compared with specific surface characteristics. The revealed adsorption capacity of PB-CACF was 21.69% higher than the bare support. The adsorption characteristics were feasible and spontaneous. Positive values of 𝜟Ho and 𝜟So show the endothermic nature and increased randomness. Based on the concept of capturing hazardous materials via hazardous materials, our work will be of interest within the relevant academia for collecting radionuclides in a sufficient manner.

  • Radionuclides, particularly radioactive cesium (Cs), are a concern of human health in some nuclear power accidents. It could lead to a high level of intracellular accumulation due to its high radioactivity and long half-life. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a method to remove Cs from wastewater. Herein, we synthesized activated carbon fibers (ACFs) doped with Prussian blue (PB) via in situ methods. We classified samples by their preparation method as either physical (PB-ACF-A) or physicochemical (PB-ACF-B) syntheses for comparison. The PB-ACF-B sample showed a significant surface loss compared to PB-ACF-A but a better 133Cs adsorption capacity. All samples fit well to Langmuir isotherms and the values of qmax were directly correlated to the amount of PB on the surface of the ACFs. Adsorption characteristics were further confirmed by the calculated free energy, enthalpy, and entropy.

  • In this paper, the adsorption behavior and kinetic characteristics of cibacron brilliant red 3B-A from aqueous solution using granular activated carbon were investigated. The effect of various parameters such as adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature on the adsorption system were studied. Base on the estimated Langmuir constant ($R_L$) and Freundlich constant (1/n), This process could be employed as effective treatment method. From the Temkin constant (B) and Dubinin-Radushkevich constant (E), This adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo second order model with good correlation. Base on the Gibbs free energy and enthalpy, the adsorption of cibacron brilliant red 3B-A onto granular activated carbon was physisorption and endothermic in nature.

  • The adsorption mechanism of Chromium(VI) uptake in silk fibroin fibers was discussed. The adsorption equilbrium of Chromium(VI) is significantly influenced by the initial adsorption rate and it showed 52% of the equilibrium uptake. The Chromium(VI) uptake by silk fibroin in increased with the acidic range of pH, which react upon Chromium(VI) oxidations. The enthalpy change in the Chromium(VI) on the temperatures, $\Delta$H, was found to be 39.7 KJ.mol-1, It means that the Chromium(VI) adsorption proceeds via a certain complex chemical reaction and the Chromium complex was found to be coordinated with carbonyl group of amides from the result of infrared spectra. The chroming of silk fibroin fibers in moderated in the conditions of 5$0^{\circ}C$, pH 2.4, and 3 hours, which prevent from the loss of physical properties. The equilibrium adsorption is attained at 5 X 10-3M of Chromium(VI) solutions.

  • Adsorption characteristics of acid green 27 dye using activated carbon were investigated as function of adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Freundlich isotherm explained adsorption of acid green 27 dye very well and Freundlich separation factors (1/n=0.293~0.387) were found that this process could be employed as effective treatment method. Kinetic studies showed that the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo second-order kinetic model. Pseudo second rate constant ($k_2$) decreased with the increase in initial acid green 27 concentration. Activation energy (10.457 kJ/mol) and enthalpy (79.946 kJ/mol) indicated that adsorption process was physisorption and endothermic. Since Gibbs free energy decreased with increasing temperature, spontaneity of adsorption reaction increased with increasing temperature in the temperature range of 298 K~318 K.
