  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the university academic achievements on the high school graduates of specialized vocational high school and general high school selected by the university admissions officer system. The implications of this study will contribute to improve development of university admission through the analysis of university admission achievements and correlation between university admission factors and university academic achievements. Participants of this study were university students selected by admission officer system in 2011 and have enrolled in the university for 6 semesters at A university. The results of this study are as follows: First, when it comes to the grades of university admission factors, graduates from specialized vocational high school outperformed those from general high school. Second, when it comes to the correlation between university academic achievements and university admission factors, graduates from specialized vocational high school slightly outperformed those from general high school. Third, when it comes to the correlation between university academic achievements and university academic achievements, graduates from specialized vocational high school showed poorer performance than those from general high school in overall courses and liberal arts courses. However, in major courses, graduates from specialized vocational high school outperformed those from general high school. Finally, when it comes to the development of university academic achievements, both of them showed a tendency of being improved as they advanced through school. Based on the findings of this study, several implications can be made as follows: First, it is necessary to improve the application ratio and application method of university admission factors. Second, it is required to provide preparatory courses of university to help graduates from specialized high school get adapted to university course of study.

  • This study analyzed how average GPA (grade point average) changes as the number of completed semesters increases based on the estimates of intercept, slope, and quadratic term. The students included in this study are those who was admitted in 2011 and took 6 consecutive semesters. More precisely, it was analyzed if intercept, slope and quadratic term of average GPA were different between gender and selection method. The results showed that the intercept was different between selection method, the slope was different between gender, but the quadratic term was different between neither selection method nor gender.

  • This study is to discover the diverse issues related to Self-Directed Learning Screening (SDLS) and draw implications by analyzing its critical points. Using content analysis and interviews with admission officers, tentative issues were finalized and reviewed by researchers and educators. A Survey was developed based on the 96 issues after having evidence of content validity using the Delphi method. To conduct survey, e-mails were sent to admissions officers in twenty science specialized high schools. They were asked to response to questions about perceptions of critical issues and if there are any issues in their schools. Using mean scores of two factors based on its critical issues and frequencies, a two-dimensional classification table for each type was presented. Four critical issues for each type were discovered. The first type indicates minor issues that include 28 items that were less than the overall mean scores in terms of critical issues and its frequencies. The second type indicates tentative issues that include 29 items that were greater than the mean score in critical issues but less in its frequencies. The third type indicates general issues that include 17 items that were less than the mean score in critical issues but greater in its frequencies. The last type indicates critical issues that include 22 items that were greater than the mean scores in two factors. The discovered results of critical issues and its types in this study can be considered a core part of the screening process in schools, especially, critical issues should play an important role in the process of admission screening planning.

  • Devices to measure the blood pressure of patients are being used without any calibration in a hospital. It is an important to show consistent values when any medical devices measure the same patients regardless they are sphygmomanometer or fully automatic electronic blood pressure meter. We compared sphygmomanometer and fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters with standard digital blood pressure monitor (SDBPM) to evaluate the consistency of the small healthy subjects. We measured the blood pressure from six healthy subjects (three of 20~40 years and three of 40~60 years old). Two sphygmomanometer and two fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters were used and compared with the SDBPM. Blood pressures measured from right and left arms each and were compared. All six healthy subjects showed normal blood pressure values. In general, left blood pressure values showed higher values than right side. Comparing SDBPM, with the other monitors, the systolic pressure showed ${\pm}$ 34.8% difference and ${\pm}$ 33.3% for the diastolic pressure. Correlation between SDBPM and Sphygmomanometer was 0.59~0.71, and 0.50~0.70 for fully automated digital BP monitors. It fell in grade-D when we apply the BHS(British hypertension society). AAMI(American association for the advancement of medical instrumentation) also showed unsatisfactory results for the mean value (${\leq}$ 5 mmHg) and standard deviation (${\leq}$ 8 mmHg). We tested sphygmomanometer and fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters and compared with a standard digital blood pressure monitor. All devices showed inconsistent blood pressures. A reliable calibration system is highly needed for all devices in all hospitals.

  • To analogize the result of the test through explaining the correlation of bone mineral density (BMD) test value between proximal femur and lumbar spine at age. It is based on 62 cases who visited the out-patient department. They were classified into three groups by age, group I (30~40 yr) and II (40~60 yr) and III (60~80 yr). Then we evaluated the average and the degree of correlation between the three groups and analyzed the correlation of the three sites according to the BMD result and T & Z-score through the t-test analysis. The results are listed below, first, if rise in age T-score is lower and over 60age occurred osteopenia, second, compared three groups, the correlation of BMD results was some of the highest between Lumbar spine and Proximal femur of T-score & Z-score. the correlation of BMD results is very high. It is regarded that there will be a clinical availability which can analogize the result of a part by using the result of the other part.
