The form-joining process (or clinching) uses a set of die and punch to impose the plastic deformation-induced geometric constraint on a sheet metal pair, But their joining strength ranges 50-70 percent of that of the resistance spot welding. In this paper, a new form-joining process with the aid of adhesive is proposed in which an epoxy adhesive is applied to a sheet metal pair, to improve joining strength. The strength and mechanical properties of the new process are discussed and compared for other joining processes.
One approach to testing the suitability of an adhesive joint for a particular application is to build and test to destruction a representativc, sample of the joini. The noncdestructive test will not measure strength directly but will measure a parameter which can be correlated to strength. It is thercforc, essential that a suitable nondestructive rest is chosen and that its results are correctly intcrpreted. In this paper, typical Ultrasonic Signal Analysis in adhesive joints are cvaluatcci together with Interface Stress from the result of Finite Elenlent Method.
Substantial experimental and theoretical work exists on the bond characteristics of FRP-concrete adhesive joints. Experimental studies show that the bond strength cannot always increase with an increase in the bond length, and that the ultimate strength is strongly influenced by the concrete strength. To solve this feature, analytic solutions based on fracture mechanics are widely used, and the local shear stress-slip curve with a softening branch is known as more rational model. The analytic solution, however, cannot describe various shapes of model curve. In this study, numerical method using interface element is introduced to express various shapes of model curve. Characteristics of adhesive joint is investigated for the shapes of the model curve and their parameters. And the numerical solutions are compared with the test results of CFRP sheet adhesive joints.
Waterborne polyurethane (WBPU) adhesive with varying amounts of dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) was synthesized by prepolymer process and blended with polyisocyanate hardener. The mean particle size of the WBPU dispersion decreased with increasing DMPA content. $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of allophanate bonds and biuret bonds due to the reaction of hardener NCO with urethane/urea groups. The optimum NCO content with the greatest adhesive strength was dependent on the total content of urethane/urea groups in the WBPU molecules. The optimum NCO content increased with increasing number of urethane groups (DMPA content). The adhesion strength of WBPU adhesives was maximized at a molar ratio of hardener NCO to urethane/urea of about 0.28.
Water soluble urea-melamine-phenol copolymer adhesive manufactured with 80 percent of urea resin contents was manufactured by different molar ratio for a high temperature curing type, and their properties and strengthes were examined through manufactures of plywood with Kapur (Dryobalanops spp.) veneers. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Specific gravities of air dried plywood manufactured from each adhesive ranged from 0.78 to 0.84 and their moisture contents met the KS requirement. 2. In dry and wet shear strength, $U_{80}M_{10}P_{10}$ copolymer resin showed the highest value and urea resin was the lowest, indicating that melamine and phenol were effective for increasing glue shear strength of urea resin. 3. In case of glue shear strength after boiling test, phenolic resin was the nest and melamine was not so effective as phenol on reinforcement of boiling water resistance of urea resin.
To prepare an acrylic type pressure-sensitive adhesive, quarternary polymers were synthesized from butyl acrylate (BA), 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate (2-EHA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), and 2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA). The quarternary polymers were identified by FT-IR and Molecular weight was measured by Gel Pearmeation Chromatography. Also, viscosity, solid content and peel strength were examined. The peel strength was 160 $g_{f}/25$ mm when the volume ratio of feed monomer to solvent was 1.3:1, and the ratio was relevant to commercial usage. The pot life of adhesive was 30 sec at the 50 m/min of heat treatment rate at, and it indicated that the minimum drying time was 30 sec. In weathering resistance test, peel strength of $160{\sim}180$$g_{f}/25$ mm after 1000 h, with no residual remains on the adhesive surface.
Epoxy resin and CTBN(carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile) rubber were reacted at $150^{\circ}C$. Epoxy mixtures containing reactant in a ratio $0{\sim}75%(wt%)$ of total liquid component were with dicyandiamide(DICY) at $130{\sim}200^{\circ}C$. Cure, thermal and adhesive properties were investigated in relation to rubber content, cure temperature, hardner content and promoter content. $CTBN{\times}13$ showed better properties in miscibility, curing time and adhesive strength. 2PZ-CNS was more excellent in Tg, and melamine was in adhesive strength. Adhesive strength represented best at rubber content $12{\times}15%$.
The purpose of this paper was to identify bonding strength by weave (plain weave, twill weave, satin weave) and counts(20 s, 40s) of the face cloth cotton 100% in the course of sewing process using by cotton fabric of adhesive interlining. The results of the study was as follows. 1. With the increased laundry, it revealed that the bonding strength was decreased to some degree regardless of the kinds of face cloth. 2. the bonding strength by the counts of the face cloth appeared in order of 40 s<20 s. 4. It was observed that there are no significant differences on the adhesive strength in the cutting directions which are an inclination warp, weft, bias in this experiment.
The tensile bond strength to dentin was measured for three glass-ionomer cement and composite resin combinations: two light-curing glass-ionomer cements(Vitrebond and XR - Ionomer) and one traditional glass - ionomer cement(Ketac - Bond), two adhesive systems(Scotchbond, and XR - Bonding System), and a corresponding composite resin. The bond strength of this "sandwich" was also compared with that of the same cements used in bulk. Vitredbond showed a significantly higher bond strength in bulk than did the other two cements. Of the sandwiches, the XR - Iomomer and XR - Bond combination showed a bond strength significantly higher than that of the Vitrebond and Scotchbond or Ketac- bond and Scotchbond combination. The fracture of the bond was mainly adhesive for Vitrebond, cohesive for XR - Ionomer when used in bulk and adhesive - cohesive when used in a sandwich, and cohesive for Ketac-Bond.
