A low density polyethylene(LDPE) was examined as an additive in phenol-formaldehyde(PF) resin adhesive for bonding radiata pine plywood. The LDPE was supplied by the commercial manufacturer. The LDPE was compared to a commercial filler commonly used in structural plywood adhesives in the United States. The adhesive mixes were made by following the recommended procedure of Georgia-Pacific Resins Inc.. using plywood-type PF resin. A total of 48 three-ply plywoods. 6.3 mm nominal thickness and 30 by 30 em in size, were made at two press times (4 and 5 min). two press temperatures (150 and $160^{\circ}C$) and 30 minute assembly times for four adhesive mixing types. Evaluations of the LDPE addition were carried out by performance tension shear tests after two cycle boil aging tests on plywood per the U.S. Product Standard PS I-83. After accelerated-aging tests. plywoods were exhibited no delamination. The test results included tension shear strength and estimated wood failure values. The plywood test results support the use of polyethylene as an additive in plywood adhesives.

The single droplet combustion characteristics of multicomponent fuel such as diesel-oxygenate and diesel-paraffin blends under high ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure were investigated in the study. The results of the study may be concluded as follows : In the combustion of diesel fuel droplet with additive of oxygenate and paraffin, the dimensionless droplet size of $(D/D_o)^2$ was linearly decreased with time. A fuel droplet with low boiling temperature additives and in high boiling temperature diesel fuel evaporates and burns faster than usual diesel fuel. This rapid burning may result from so-called "micro-explosion" and its burning intensity varies with the types of additives. The results above may suggest that rapid evaporation of oxygenate additive in the middle stage of combustion can contribute much to combustion improvement of blended fuels. When compared to ordinary diesel fuel, neat oxygenate and paraffin fuels show blue flame during entire combustion which prove smokeless combustion.
The antibiotic chemotherapy produces sometimes side effects and fails to eliminate bacterial infection. The occurrence of strains resistant to antibiotics would be expected to increase, and it is nowadays important to search for non-antibiotic substances. We are aimed to evaluate the effects of Torilis fructus extracts against enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) in Piglets. The piglets were divided with three groups; Negative control group, E. coli-infected positive control group, and the Torilis fructus extracts treated group with E. coli infection. During the study period, we compared clinical signs, weight increase rate, fecal scores, gross findings between the treated group and non treated group. After necropsy, necropsy findings and histopathological findings were conducted with the comparison between the groups. As the results of this study, the Torilis fructus extracts additive showed the effects on the suppression of E. coli-induced lesions. On the basis of this study results, our data suggest that the Torilis fructus extracts additive have the antimicrobial effects. The Torilis fructus extracts additive could be used as the alternative material for antimicrobial feed additives.
Sums-of-Products models were built for segment duration prediction of spoken Korean. An experiment for the modelling was carried out to apply the results to Korean text-to-speech synthesis systems. 670 read sentences were analyzed. trained and tested for the construction of the duration models. Traditional sequential rule systems were extended to simple additive, multiplicative and additive-multiplicative models based on Sums-of-Products modelling. The parameters used in the modelling include the properties of the target segment and its neighbors and the target segment's position in the prosodic structure. Two optimisation strategies were used: the downhill simplex method and the simulated annealing method. The performance of the models was measured by the correlation coefficient and the root mean squared prediction error (RMSE) between actual and predicted duration in the test data. The best performance was obtained when the data was trained and tested by ' additive-multiplicative models. ' The correlation for the vowel duration prediction was 0.69 and the RMSE. 31.80 ms. while the correlation for the consonant duration prediction was 0.54 and the RMSE. 29.02 ms. The results were not good enough to be applied to the real-time text-to-speech systems. Further investigation of feature interactions is required for the better performance of the Sums-of-Products models.
The high theoretical specific capacity of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries makes them a more promising energy storage system than conventional lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the slow kinetics of the electrochemical conversion reaction seriously hinders the utilization of Li-S as an active battery material and has prevented the successful application of Li-S cells. Therefore, exploration of alternatives that can overcome the sluggish electrochemical reaction is necessary to increase the performance of Li-S batteries. In this work, an ionic liquid (IL) is proposed as a functional additive to promote the electrochemical reactivity of the Li-S cell. The sluggish electrochemical reaction is mainly caused by precipitation of low-order polysulfide (l-PS) onto the positive electrode, so the IL is adopted as a solubilizer to remove the precipitated l-PS from the positive electrode to promote additional electron transfer reactions. The ILs effectively dissolve l-PS and greatly improve the electrochemical performance by allowing greater utilization of l-PS, which results in a higher initial specific capacity, together with a moderate retention rate. The results presented here confirmed that the use of an IL as an additive is quite effective at enhancing the overall performance of the Li-S cell and this understanding will enable the construction of highly efficient Li-S batteries.
In this paper, a density based topology optimization is proposed for generating of supports required in additive manufacturing to maintain the overhanging regions of main structures during layer by layer fabrication process. For this purpose, isogeometric analysis method is employed to model geometry and structural analysis of main and support structures. In order to model the problem two cases are investigated. In the first case, design domain of supports can easily be separated from the main structure by using distinct isogeometric patches. The second case happens when the main structure itself is optimized by using topology optimization and the supports should be designed in the voids of optimum layout. In this case, in order to avoid boundary identification and re-meshing process for separating design domain of supports from main structure, a parameterization technique is proposed to identify the design domain of supports. To achieve this, two density functions are defined over the entire domain to describe the main structure and supporting areas. On the other hand, since supports are under gravity loads while main structure and its stiffness is not completed during manufacturing process, in the proposed method, stiffness of the main structure is considered to be trivial and the gravity loads are also naturally applied to design support structures. By doing so, the results show reasonable supports are created to protect, continuously, overhanging surfaces of the main structure. Several examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method and compare the results with literature.

In the present study is focused on the evaluation of the shrinkage characteristics of mix proportion using viscosity agent for printing. Also, another purpose is to compare the shrinkage properties of the mold cast specimen with the additive manufactured specimen using 3D printing techniques. Viscosity agent makes the shrinkage was reduced by an average of 25% (as of 56 days) compared to the reference mix. The effects of reduced shrinkage were also founded, with a reduction of about 15% (as of 28 days). As a result of evaluating the shrinkage using the additive manufactured specimen and the mold cast specimen prepared by the printing mix, the shrinkage of the additive manufactured specimen was reduced by about 25% (based on 28 days). Based on the results of this study, it is possible to predict the shrinkage rate and the occurrence of cracks due to shrinkage on the printing of cement-based composite materials using 3D printing.
The objective of this paper is to evaluate the performance of low $CO_2$ asphalt binder properties using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$(Low Energy and Carbon Asphalt Pavement) additive as function of various aging methods such as RTFO(Rolling thin film oven), Ultraviolet(UV) lay. In order to simulate the short-term aging of asphalt binder that occurs during the hot-mixing asphalt process, the Rolling Thin Film Oven(RTFO) was used. Asphalt binder using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$ is prepared by addition of a photoinitiator activated by ultraviolet lay. The mechanical and rheological properties of the asphalt binder were estimated using UTM(Universal Testing Machine) and DSR(Dynamic Shear Rheometer). The test results showed that the asphalt binder using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$ additive was improved the rutting resistance at testing temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) and increased tensile strength at low temperature. Also, Thermal analysis shows that the Melting Point(Tm) of asphalt binder using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$ additive was constant although the asphalt binder was aged by Ultraviolet.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to verify the clinical-feasibility of additive manufacturing by comparing the accuracy of four different manufacturing methods for metal coping: the conventional lost wax technique (CLWT); subtractive methods with wax blank milling (WBM); and two additive methods, multi jet modeling (MJM), and micro-stereolithography (Micro-SLA). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty study models were created using an acrylic model with the maxillary upper right canine, first premolar, and first molar teeth. Based on the scan files from a non-contact blue light scanner (Identica; Medit Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea), thirty cores were produced using the WBM, MJM, and Micro-SLA methods, respectively, and another thirty frameworks were produced using the CLWT method. To measure the marginal and internal gap, the silicone replica method was adopted, and the silicone images obtained were evaluated using a digital microscope (KH-7700; Hirox, Tokyo, Japan) at 140X magnification. Analyses were performed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc test (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The mean marginal gaps and internal gaps showed significant differences according to tooth type (P<.001 and P<.001, respectively) and manufacturing method (P<.037 and P<.001, respectively). Micro-SLA did not show any significant difference from CLWT regarding mean marginal gap compared to the WBM and MJM methods. CONCLUSION. The mean values of gaps resulting from the four different manufacturing methods were within a clinically allowable range, and, thus, the clinical use of additive manufacturing methods is acceptable as an alternative to the traditional lost wax-technique and subtractive manufacturing.
Simulation works for comparing removal capabilities of acid gases contained in natural gas among several aqueous amine absorbents using commercial process simulator PROMAX(BR&E Co.) were carried out. Amine aqueous solution used in this study were 30 wt% MEA, 30 wt% DEA, 50 wt% MDEA, and 50 wt% MDEA with 3 wt% piperazine as additive. We obtained the simulated results that while MEA aqueous solution is relatively capable of more $CO_2$ gas, but DEA, MDEA, MDEA aqueous solutions with piperazine as additive are capable of more $H_2S$ gas. Also, we found that 30 wt% MDA aqueous solution is the smallest circulate rate of lean amine solution, and 50 wt% MDEA aqueous solution with 3 wt% piperazine as additive is the smallest heat duty in stripping unit. 50 wt% MDEA aqueous solution with 3 wt% piperazine as additive is found less amine circulation rate than 50 wt% MDEA due to the introduction of additive.
