  • Purpose : To evaluate the value of panoramic radiography in diagnosing maxillary sinus inflammation. Materials and Methods : A total of 214 maxillary sinuses from 114 panoramic radiographs were assessed in this study. Two independent experienced oral radiologists evaluated the images in random order for sinus inflammation. Using Cone beam CT images as the gold standard, the sensitivity and specificity of panoramic radiography were calculated, and inter- and intraobserver agreement for panoramic interpretation were obtained. Results : The mean sensitivity and specificity of panoramic radiography were 81.0% and 85.6%, respectively. The weighted kappas for inter- and intraobserver agreement of panoramic radiography were 0.56 and 0.60, respectively. Conclusion : Panoramic radiography is a reasonably accurate method for diagnosing maxillary sinus inflammation and can be used for screening. However, additional examinations should be considered in patients with potentially significant pathology. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2008; 38: 215-8)

  • Water quality of the Koejong-reservoir was estimated by using the ecological model to evaluate the effects of industrial sewage discharge. State variables consist of POC, DOC, phytoplankton, DIP, DIN, DO and COD. Initial conditions for the compartment are applied to the model based on the observed results. The reproducibility was found to be satisfactory with the relative error ranging between the calculated value and the observed value. Water quality simulation was conducted by applying additional industrial sewage discharge into the Koejong-reservoir. The concentrations of COD, Chl.a, DIP and COD showed fluctuations of a narrow range. The increment percentages of Chl.a, COD and DIP were 26.6%, 20.2% and 18.2%, respectively. In the case of DO, the concentration decreased 4.8%.

  • In this paper, a framework for implementing UFIS (Unified Fuzzy rule-based knowledge Inference System) is presented. First, fuzzy clustering and fuzzy rules deal with the presence of the knowledge in DB (DataBase) and its value is presented with a value between 0 and 1. Second, RDB (Relational DB) and SQL queries provide more flexible functionality fur knowledge management than the conventional non-fuzzy knowledge management systems. Therefore, the obtained fuzzy rules offer the user additional information to be added to the query with the purpose of guiding the search and improving the retrieval in knowledge base and/ or rule base. The framework can be used as DM (Data Mining) and ES (Expert Systems) development and easily integrated with conventional KMS (Knowledge Management Systems) and ES.

  • The nutritive value of food is the fundamental and principal need for the food administration, nutritional education, dietary clinic and nutritional survey and various projects. The nutritive values for 527 kinds of korean foods have been analyzed at this laboratory from 1961 to 1982. In this paper the additional 30 kinds of korean foods are reported for their proximate composition, minerals and vitamins.

  • The stochastic analysis of semi-infinite domain is presented using the weighted integral method, which is improved to include the higher order terms in expanding the displacement vector. To improve the weighted integral method, the Lagrangian remainder is taken into account in the expansion of the status variable with respect to the mean value of the random variables. In the resulting formulae only the 'proportionality coefficients' are introduced in the resulting equation, therefore no additional computation time and memory requirement is needed. The equations are applied in analyzing the semi-infinite domain. The results obtained by the improved weighted integral method are reasonable and are in good agreement with those of the Monte Carlo simulation. To model the semi-infinite domain, the Bettess's infinite element is adopted, where the theoretical decomposition of the strain-displacement matrix to calculate the deviatoric stiffness of the semi-infinite domains is introduced. The calculated value of mean and the covariance of the displacement are revealed to be larger than those given by the finite domain assumptions which is thought to be rational and should be considered in the design of structures on semi-infinite domains.

  • In this paper, McCARD code was verified using various models listed in the NUREG/CR-6361 benchmark guide, which provides specifications for single pin-cells, single assemblies, and the whole core classified depending on the nuclear properties and structural characteristics. McCARD code was verified by comparing its results with those of SCALE code for single pin-cell and single assembly benchmark problems. The difference in the multiplication factor obtained through the two codes did not exceed 90 pcm. The benchmark guide treats a total of 173 whole core experiments. The experiments are categorized as simple lattices, separator plates, reflecting walls, reflecting walls and separator plates, burnable absorber fuel rods, water holes, poison rods, and borated moderator. As a result of numerical simulation using McCARD, the mean value of the multiplication factors is 1.00223 and the standard deviation of the multiplication factors is 285 pcm. The difference between the multiplication factors and the experimental value is in the range of -665 pcm to + 1609 pcm. In addition, statistics of results for experiments categorized by reactor shape, additional structure, burnable poison, etc., are detailed in the main text.

  • Salt and pepper is a type of impulse noise. It may appear due to an error in the image transmission process and image storage memory. This noise changes the pixel value at any position in the image to 0 (in case of pepper noise) or 255 (in case of salt noise). In this paper, we present an algorithm for SAP noise reduction. The proposed method consists of three steps. In the first step, the location of the SAP noise is detected, and in the second step, the pixel value of the detected location is restored using a weighted average of the surrounding pixel values. In the last step, a reliability matrix around the reconstructed pixels is constructed, and additional correction is performed with a weighted average using this. As a result of the experiment, the proposed method appears to have similar or higher objective and subjective image quality than previous methods for almost all SAP noise ratios.

  • This study examines the implications on the valuations of privately held firms when stakes are acquired by venture capitalists in India. In addition, the effect of fund size and revenue multiple is considered as a determinant of firm value. The study is based on a sample of 1229 rounds of funding during the period 2007-2015. The data was obtained from Venture Intelligence. Three major observations emerged based on an OLS regression. Firstly, it is observed that the stake acquired by venture capitalists has a negative effect on firm value. It supports the belief that when a firm reaches its maximum valuation from the promoter's perspective, there is a tendency to liquidate additional stakes. Secondly, a positive association between the revenue multiple and valuation is recognized. Thirdly, the convex relationship (U-shaped) between the fund size and firm valuations as seen in the case of developed economies, appears to be non-existent in India.

  • The residual stress induced in the superconducting layer was estimated using analytical approach coupled with electro-mechanical test results and XRD measurements. The residual stress measured based on the $I_{c}/I_{c0}$-strain degradation behavior showed similar value with the measured residual stress using XRD. The calculated residual stress based on the thermal analysis showed the lowest value. This could be explained by the additional intrinsic residual stresses induced in the superconducting film during deposition.

  • AE(Acoustic Emission) signal is correlated to workpiece material, cutting conditions and tool geometry during metal cutting. The relationship between AE signal and cutting parameters can be obtained by theoretical model and experiments. The value of CR(Count Rate) is nearly constant in stable cutting, but when the chatter vibration occours, the value of CR is rapidly increased due to the vibration deformation zone. By experimental signal processing of AE, it is more effective than by RMS(Root Mean Square) measurement to detect the threshold of chatter vibration by CR measurement.
