  • A pressure control law to regulate pressure of gas generator is suggested. To design a model based control law, the governing equation which is consisted of Robert and conservation equation is built and verified through the ground burning test. PID and nonlinear adaptive control laws are designed to evaluate the loop response characteristics under the system which has varying eigen properties as combustor volume is increased. It is suggested that new approach, gain scheduling design, is required to overcome the defects identified from numerical simulation results of the two control laws. The newly suggested scheme showed good control performance even under disturbances and measurement noise.

  • Numerical investigations are presented, which show that a back-flow flap can improve the dynamic stall characteristics of oscillating airfoils. The flap was able to weaken the stall vortex and therefore to reduce the peak in the pitching moment. This paper gives a brief insight into the method of function of a back-flow flap. Initial wind tunnel experiments were performed to define the structural requirements for a detailed experimental wind tunnel characterization. A structural integration concept and two different actuation mechanisms of a back-flow flap for a helicopter rotor blade are presented. First a piezoelectric actuation system was investigated, but the analytical model to estimate the performance showed that the displacement generated is too low to enable reliable operation. The seond actuation mechanism is based on magnetic forces to generate an impulse that initiates the opening of the flap. A concept based on two permanent magnets is further detailed and characterized, and this mechanism is shown to generate sufficient impulse for reliable operation in the wind tunnel.

  • Among artificial intelligence-based computational techniques, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are particularly suitable for modelling complex systems with known input-output data sets. Such systems can be efficient in modelling non-linear, complex and ambiguous behaviour of cement-based materials undergoing single, dual or multiple damage factors of different forms (chemical, physical and structural). Due to the well-known complexity of sulfate attack on cement-based materials, the current work investigates the use of ANFIS to model the behaviour of a wide range of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mixture designs under various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes including full immersion, wetting-drying, partial immersion, freezing-thawing, and cyclic cold-hot conditions with or without sustained flexural loading. Three ANFIS models have been developed to predict the expansion, reduction in elastic dynamic modulus, and starting time of failure of the tested SCC specimens under the various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes. A fuzzy inference system was also developed to predict the level of aggression of environmental conditions associated with very severe sodium sulfate attack based on temperature, relative humidity and degree of wetting-drying. The results show that predictions of the ANFIS and fuzzy inference systems were rational and accurate, with errors not exceeding 5%. Sensitivity analyses showed that the trends of results given by the models had good agreement with actual experimental results and with thermal, mineralogical and micro-analytical studies.

  • This study explores the process in which employees adopt the information security policy. The results of this study, which surveyed 234 employees in three call centers and four hospitals, show that the employees adapt the information security policy through the social structuring process suggested by the AST model. In particular, this study identifies roles of two appropriation activities (FOA : Faithfulness of Appropriation & COA : Consensus on Appropriation) observed in the social structuring process. Regarding to the interactions between the two appropriation activities, FOA, which indicates a better understanding of the information security policy, is examined as a more critical factor than COA, which indicates the degree of agreement among employees about how to use it. FOA not only has a direct effect on compliance intention toward the information security policy, but also indirectly through COA, whereas COA has only a indirect effect through FOA. This result shows that, in order for a company to successfully implement a new information security policy, it is important for employees to understand its purpose and intention. The adaption of information security policy through two appropriation activities is observed in both hospitals and call centers, but due to the different working environments, there were differences in the preceding variables affecting the appropriation activities. The results of this study are expected to provide guidelines for companies who want to successfully adopt information security policy.

  • This paper discusses the development of a acoustic vector channel simulator for the performance analysis of a acoustic digital communication system. The channel simulator consists of transmission module, acoustic channel model, receiver, beamformer, and adaptive equalizer. QPSK source signal is generated by the parameters specified by a user and transmitted. The transmitted signal generate multipath signals which have a different delay, amplitude, and dopper Sequency. The multipath signals with the acoustic noises is the received signal. We can analysis the communication system performance according to the antenna structure, beamforming algorithm, and equalization algorithm.

  • In this paper, the new open fault detection and tolerant operation method for 3 phase PWM rectifier is proposed. When open fault occurred on the inverter switches of 3 Phase PWM rectifier, the DC link voltage ripple is increased because the input current of the faulty phase is distorted. In this case, the quality of electric power would decrease, and the life time of DC link capacitor is decreased. The open fault is detected by a simple MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) without additional hardware sensors, and the tolerant operation carried out by turning on the opposite switch of the faulty switch without any redundancy. By the proposed method, the faulty phase input current can be controlled, so that 3-phase input current is balanced relatively under the faulty condition and the voltage ripple of DC link output is reduced. The validity of the proposed technique is proved on the 6kW 3-phase PWM rectifier system by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper presents a rate control method that minimizes global distortion under given target bit rates for video communication. This method makes the quality of reconstructed images better than that of the conventional ones based on R-D model at the same bit rates. Given a set of quantizers, a sequence of macroblocks to be quantized selects the optimal quantizer for each macroblock so that the total cost measure is minimized and the finite buffer is never in overflow. To solve this problem we provide a heuristic algorithm based on Lagrangian optimization using an operational rate-distortion framework and a quantization method follows H.263recommendation.

  • Natural ventilation is major strategy of 'sustainable building'. It aims to supply fresh air to the indoor, and to remove heat from the indoor during summer. In the latter point of view, natural ventilation can be grouped into two main strategies, daytime ventilation and night cooing. If we take advantage of these two natural ventilation strategies, indoor thermal comfort can be significantly improved. This study focused on grasping the current situation and problem of indoor thermal comfort of the naturally ventilated residential buildings to seek for direction of later studies. Additionally, thermal comfort of residence where the interior blind and exterior insulation were applied was analyzed. It was analyzed that the percentage of the time which satisfy the indoor acceptable operative temperature during summer was 90 ~ 95% and the heat control performance of natural ventilation has a limitation. When the interior blind and exterior insulation were applied, indoor thermal comfort was significantly improved. However, it still need more improvement.

  • In this paper, we study optimal tradeoffs of achievable throughput versus consumed power in wireless ad-hoc networks formed by a collection of multiple antenna nodes. Relying on adaptive modulation and/or dynamic channel coding rate allocation techniques for multiple antenna systems, we examine the maximization of throughput under power constraints as well as the minimization of transmission power under throughput constraints. In our examination, we also consider the impacts of enforcing quality of service requirements expressed in the form of channel coding block loss constraints. In order to properly model temporally correlated loss observed in fading wireless channels, we propose the use of finite-state Markov chains. Details of fading statistics of signal-to-interference-noise ratio, an important indicator of transmission quality, are presented. Further, we objectively inspect complexity versus accuracy tradeoff of solving our proposed optimization problems at a global as oppose to a local topology level. Our numerical simulations profile and compare the performance of a variety of scenarios for a number of sample network topologies.
