  • Modeling nonlinear friction effects is a challenging problem. In this paper, a tracking controller is proposed for a system with uncertain nonlinear friction dynamics. Instead of using a specific friction model, we assume that the friction dynamics are represented by a function, which is unknown except its being continuously differentiable and Lipschitz continuous with known Lipschitz constants. It is shown that the scheme results in friction identification and trajectory position and velocity tracking. The analysis is done using Lyapunov-based stability method.

  • In this paper, we present a fuzzy logic based tuner for continuous on-line tuning of PID controllers. The essential idea of the scheme is to parameterize a Ziegler-Nichols-like tuning formula by a singler parameter .alpha., then to use an on line fuzzy logic to self-tune the parameter. The adaptive scaling makes the controller robust against large variations in parametric and dynamics uncertainties in the plant model. New self-tuning controller has the ability to decide when to use PI or PID control by extracting process dynamics from relay experiments. These scheme lead to improved performance of the transient and steady state behavior of the closed loop system, including processes with nonminimum phase processes.

  • In this paper, the design method of sliding mode control (SMC) system for SISO linear system is discussed. First, we consider the similarity between the design method of sliding mode hyper plane using the strict positive realness and the characteristics of zeros of feedback system and the design method of simple adaptive control. Based on such a consideration, we propose the new design method of SMC system using parallel dynamic compensator. As a result, SMC system can be constructed only with the derivative of output signal for controlled plant. The performance of SMC system designed by proposed method is confirmed through the numerical example.

  • This paper investigated the speed sensorless indirect vector control of a two-phase induction motor to implement adjustable-speed drive for low-power applications. The sliding mode observer estimates rotor speed. The convergence of the nonlinear time-varying observer along with the asymptotic stability of the controller was analyzed. To define the control action which maintains the motion on the sliding manifold, an 'equivalent control' concept was used. It was simulated and implemented on a sensorless indirect vector drive for 150W two-phase induction motor. The simulation and experimental results demonstrated effectiveness of the estimation method.

  • Inherent opportunities on research for restoring high resolution image from low resolution images are increasing in these days. Super resolution image reconstruction is the process of combining multiple low resolution images to form a higher resolution one. To achieve super resolution reconstruction, proper observation model which is based on subpixel shift information is required. In this context, the importance of the subpixel registration cannot be estimated because subpixel shift information cannot be obtained from original image. This paper presents a regularized adaptive super resolution reconstruction method based on phase correlated subpixel registration, where the Constrained Least Squares(CLS) Restoration is adopted as a post process.

  • In this paper, a new intelligent moving target tracking and surveillance system basing on the pan/tilt-embedded stereo camera system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, once the face area of a target is detected from the input stereo image by using a YCbCr color model and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the tracking system, the distance and 3D information of the target are effectively extracted in real-time.

  • As sensor network is drawing more attention than ever before due to the development of sensors and the technology of communications, various routing-algorithms, to realize a sensor node with low-power and a miniature size, is being introduced in the field. This paper is to discuss a way to find an optimal path by changing a routing- algorithm adequately according to environmental changes. This is also to suggest an appropriate sensor network model in the ubiquitous aera. The result from the experiment that we conducted showed us that as we suggested, an algorithm, changing and adapting itself to each different environment, operated more stably and transmitted data more effectively than the current fixed one. And it was also confirmed that this type of algorithm can provide low-power management, which is very important in sensor network.

  • This paper presents an automatic focal length estimation method to correct the fisheye lens distortion in a spatially adaptive manner. The proposed method estimates the focal length of the fisheye lens by generating two reference focal lengths. The distorted fisheye lens image is finally corrected using the orthographic projection model. The experimental results showed that the proposed focal length estimation method is more accurate than existing methods in terms of the loss rate.

  • This paper deals with the study on the cutting characteristics in ball endmilling process. First of all, the effects of the geometric cutting conditions such as the cutting speed, feedrates and the path interval on the surface integrity were evaluated by the analytical and the experimental approaches. Secondly, the cutting mechanism model was developed to predict the cutting force accurately. Prediction of cutting force make it possible to predict the shape error, estimate system stability and build the reliable adaptive control system. A large amount of experimental set are performed to show the validities of the proposed theories and to investigate the effect of cutting geometry such as rubbing effects, burr effects and etc.
