멀티미디어 무선 네트워크를 위한 효율적인 대역폭 할당 기법 (An Adaptive Bandwidth Allocation Scheme for Multimedia Wireless Networks)

  • 무선 이동망에서 점점 증가하는 멀티미디어 트래픽의 QoS(Quality of Service)를 위해서는 충분한 자원이 제공되어야 한다. 하지만 무선망에서의 자원은 한정적이므로 이를 효율적으로 활용해야 멀티미디어 트래픽에 대한 QoS 보장이 가능하다. 이 논문에서는 무선망에서의 멀티미디어 트래픽에 대한 QoS 보장 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 이동단말이 위치한 주위 셀의 자원들을 미리 예약하는 방식을 기반으로 하는 admission control 방법이다.

Optimal Design of a Planar-Type Antenna with a Reduced Number of Design Parameters Using Taguchi Method and Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization

  • This paper presents a method to optimize the design of a planar-type antenna and reduce the number of design parameters for rapid computation. The electromagnetic characteristics of the structure are analyzed, and Taguchi method is used to identify critical design parameters. Adaptive particle swarm optimization, which has a faster convergence rate than particle swarm optimization, is used to achieve the design goal effectively. A compact dual-band USB dongle antenna is tested to verify the advantage of the proposed method. In this case, we can use only five selected geometrical parameters instead of eighteen to accelerate the optimization of the antenna design. The 10 dB bandwidth for return loss ranges from 2.3 GHz to 2.7 GHz and from 5.1 GHz to 5.9 GHz, covering all the WiBro, Bluetooth, WiMAX, and 802.11 b/g/n WLAN bands in both simulation and measurement. The optimization process enables the antenna design to achieve the required performance with fewer design parameters.

홈 네트워크에서 적응적 차등화 서비스를 위한 동적 우선순위 조절 기법 (A Dynamic Priority Control Method to Support an Adaptive Differentiated Service in Home Networks)

  • 홈 네트워크에서 다양한 응용(application) 트래픽(traffic) 간의 차등화 된 서비스를 제공하기 위해서 트래픽 변화에 따라 적응적으로 우선순위(priority)를 재할당하는 알고리즘을 제안하고, FPGA를 이용하여 구현하였다. 제안된 구조는 QoS를 위한 부가적인 시그널링 프로토콜이 없이도 네트워크 트래픽 조절이 가능하도록 설계되었고, 또한 홈 네트워크 트래픽을 그 특징에 따라 제어 데이터 트래픽, 일반 인터넷이나 데이터 트래픽, 그리고 멀티미디어 데이터 트래픽으로 분류하고 이를 네트워크 트래픽 상황에 적응적으로 차등화 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제시한 알고리즘의 성능을 검증하고 FPGA구현을 통하여 실현가능성을 제시하였다.

센서 모니터링을 위한 칼만필터 기반의 효율적인 적응적 샘플링 기법 (An Efficient Adaptive Sampling Technique based on the Kalman Filter for Sensor Monitoring)

  • 센서 네트워크 환경에서는 각 센서는 정의된 샘플링 주기에 따라서 외부 환경을 측정하고 측정된 값을 기지국으로 전송한다. 따라서, 샘플링 주기는 대역폭, 전력량 등 센서들의 중요 자원의 소비에 지대한 영향을 끼친다. 본 논문에서는 측정값 특성에 따라서 센서의 샘플링 주기를 조절하는 새로운 적응적 샘플링 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 KF (Kalman-Filter)에 기반하여 미래의 측정값을 예측한다. 그리고, 실측값과 예측값의 차이에 따라서 센서 측정값들의 중요도를 파악하고 이에 따라서 샘플링 주기를 변화시킨다. 실험에서 제안하는 기법의 효과성을 보였다.

Adaptive Double Notch Filter for Interference Suppression in the GPS Receiver

  • In this paper, an efficient scheme of the adaptive notch filter is presented for rejecting the narrow bandwidth interferences(NBI) in GPS receiver. Designed is the lattice IIR double notch filter for more efficient suppression of the NBI with less computational complexity. The algorithm is of recursive prediction error form and uses a special constrained model of IIR with a minimal number of parameters. This paper chooses seven different jamming scenarios including one without jamming for evaluating the proposed filter algorithm. The simulation results to the jamming scenarios show that the proposed algorithm adjusts the double notch filter effectively for the given JSR, and provides better SNR than the conventional algorithms. Finally, it is shown that the advantages of the proposed filter algorithm can range as high as JSR 79dB in time domain processing. Also, the ADNF(adaptive double notch filter) guarantees that more than SNR 10dB of GPS receiver can be always maintained. In conclusion, there is enough evidence to believe that the proposed algorithm will perform quite well for removing interference signals.

Multi-resolution Lossless Image Compression for Progressive Transmission and Multiple Decoding Using an Enhanced Edge Adaptive Hierarchical Interpolation

  • In a multi-resolution image encoding system, the image is encoded into a single file as a layer of bit streams, and then it is transmitted layer by layer progressively to reduce the transmission time across a low bandwidth connection. This encoding scheme is also suitable for multiple decoders, each with different capabilities ranging from a handheld device to a PC. In our previous work, we proposed an edge adaptive hierarchical interpolation algorithm for multi-resolution image coding system. In this paper, we enhanced its compression efficiency by adding three major components. First, its prediction accuracy is improved using context adaptive error modeling as a feedback. Second, the conditional probability of prediction errors is sharpened by removing the sign redundancy among local prediction errors by applying sign flipping. Third, the conditional probability is sharpened further by reducing the number of distinct error symbols using error remapping function. Experimental results on benchmark data sets reveal that the enhanced algorithm achieves a better compression bit rate than our previous algorithm and other algorithms. It is shown that compression bit rate is much better for images that are rich in directional edges and textures. The enhanced algorithm also shows better rate-distortion performance and visual quality at the intermediate stages of progressive image transmission.

충돌 벡터를 이용한 이동로봇의 동적 장애물 회피 (Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance of a Mobile Robot Using a Collision Vector)

  • An efficient obstacle avoidance algorithm is proposed in this paper to avoid dynamic obstacles using a collision vector while a tele-operated mobile robot is moving. For the verification of the algorithm, an operator watches through a monitor and controls the mobile robot with a force-reflection joystick. The force-reflection joystick transmits a virtual force to the operator through the Inter-net, which is generated by an adaptive impedance algorithm. To keep the mobile robot safe from collisions in an uncertain environment, the adaptive impedance algorithm generates the virtual force which changes the command of the operator by pushing the operator's hand to a direction to avoid the obstacle. In the conventional virtual force algorithm, the avoidance of moving obstacles was not solved since the operator cannot recognize the environment realistically by the limited communication bandwidth and the narrow view-angle of the camera. To achieve the dynamic obstacle avoidance, the adaptive virtual force algorithm is proposed based on the collision vector that is a normal vector from the obstacle to the mobile robot. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, mobile robot navigation experiments with multiple moving obstacles have been performed, and the results are demonstrated.

Adaptive Pre-/Post-Filters for NRT-Based Stereoscopic Video Coding

  • Non-real-time delivery of stereoscopic video has been considered as a service scenario for 3DTV to overcome the limited bandwidth in the terrestrial digital television system. A hybrid codec combining MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC has been suggested for the compression of stereoscopic video for 3DTV. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme using adaptive pre-/post-filters (APPF) to improve the quality of 3D video while retaining compatibility with legacy video coding standards. The APPF are applied adaptively to blocks of various sizes determined by the macroblock coding mode and reference frame index. Experiment results show that the proposed method achieves up to 24.86% bit rate savings relative to a hybrid codec of MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC including the inter-view prediction.

Sub-band Spreading Technique for Adaptive Modulation in OFDM Systems

  • We propose a sub-band spreading technique for adaptive modulation (AM) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in order to reduce signaling overheads and to average frequency selective fading channels causing different signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values for subcarriers in each subband. The conventional sub-band based AM schemes can also reduce signaling overheads and complexity for allocating a resource per sub-band at a time. However, they may suffer from the channel variation in a sub-band when the sub-band size is larger than the channel coherence bandwidth (BW). The sub-band spreading at the transmitter enables the received symbols in each sub-band to have an identical reliability even in a frequency selective fading channel. We rigorously analyze the averaged SNR value at the receiver of the sub-band spreading system and the analyzed average SNR in a sub-band is used for an adaptation criterion. The proposed AM scheme outperforms the conventional sub-band based OFDM scheme without spreading, and it can yield better throughput performance than the conventional subcarrier based AM schemes when we consider the signaling overheads.

지능형 순항제어 시스템용 24GHz 대역 배열 안테나 설계 (Design of a K-band microstrip array antenna for an adaptive cruise control system)

  • 본 논문에서는 지능형 순항제어 시스템용 24GHz 대역 마이크로스트립 구형패치 배열 안테나의 설계 방법을 제안하였다. 안테나는 송신안테나 $1{\times}2$배열, 수신안테나 $1{\times}2$배열로 각각 구성하였다. 안테나는 CST MWS를 사용하여 시뮬레이션 하였고 RO-4003 기판(h=0.5mm, ${\epsilon}r=3.38$)을 사용하여 제작하였다. 제작된 안테나는 충돌방지용 센서회로 뒷면에 설치되어 측정되었다. 시뮬레이션에서 안테나이득은 8.5dBi, 빔폭은 약 $50^{\circ}$로 예측되었다. 실제 측정된 안테나 대역폭은1GHz($VSWR{\le}2$) 정도로 목표 사양을 만족하였다.
