  • The user-centric broadcasting environment includes the agent system and personalized broadcasting services for user-adaptive TV watching. In this paper, we propose broadcasting environment consisting of personalized broadcasting services and a multi-agent broadcasting system for the services. The proposed system employs the intelligent agent technology of the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA) as well as metadata technology of MPEG-7 and TV-Anytime Forum (TVAF). To verify the usefulness of the proposed environment, we implemented a test-bed and demonstrated the proposed agent system with three services including intelligent user-information management service, information mobility service, and content retrieval service.

  • This research aims to formulate a mathematical model and develop an algorithm for solving a location problem in emergency medical service vehicle parking. To find an optimal parking location which has the least risk score or risk priority number calculated from severity, occurrence, detection, and distance from parking location for emergency patients, data were collected from Pratoom sub-district Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center from October 2010 to April 2011. The criteria of risk evaluation were modified from Automotive Industry Action Group's criteria. An adaptive simulated annealing algorithm with multiple cooling schedules called multi-agent simulated quenching (MASQ) is proposed for solving the problem in two schemes of algorithms including dual agent and triple agent quenching. The result showed that the solution obtained from both scheme of MASQ was better than the traditional solution. The best locations obtained from MASQ-dual agent quenching scheme was nodes #5 and #133. The risk score was reduced 61% from 6,022 to 2,371 points.

  • Agent acts for specification purpose, which is common element of CGF (Computer Generated Forces). When basic agent acts as planned, the advanced intelligence agent can do more than this. It can follow predefined actions along appointed script to achieve purpose or lay another plans when it is difficult to achieve. In other words, it can amend plan again or make new plan in order to achieve goals. When plan fails, agent amends oneself, possibly decreases target level to achieve easily. In doing so, the agent calculates a quantitative value for changing plans in realtime, and choose appropriate alternative plans when the threshold value reaches an limit. In this paper, we propose an military system in which the planned action can be modified according to the level of achievement and alternative plans can be generated accordingly.

  • Recently there are many tries and researches for using web agent in education. The agent is a computer program as a common name which takes a role like a proxy or a middle ware for accomplishing the given something on behalf of user. Lately the agent is being used in the various fields. The teaching and learning is the one of those. It is the web agent that support the teaching and learning on the web. It has a concept of the program or the engine is able to do teachers roles on the behalf of him on the web. Not only the web agent is able to do teachers roles on the behalf of him, but also it is a helper that helps learners on the web. The web based teaching and learning environment has the web agent offers the personal and the adaptive information, interface, or contents.

  • By spread of Internet, we become to use several of communication such as email, ICQ, VoIP etc. But as become convenient to use, user must be aware of variety of information regarding the media and partner user. The forecast is that this problem grows larger and larger as new media are brought in the expanding communications network. In this research, we suggest an agent MIA (Media Integration Agent) that manages the information instead of user. The MIA is an agent that obtains situation of user, and dynamically exchanged addresses and tendency of using medias in form of vCard. By use of this, user can choose better communication media. Accordingly seamless communication environment that user doesn't have to be aware of various information is formed.

  • Several different approaches and mechanisms are introduced to solve the UAV path planning problem. In this paper, we designed and implemented an agent-based simulation software using the Repast platform and Java Genetic Algorithm Package to examine an evolutionary path planning method by implementing and testing within the Repast environment. The paper demonstrates the life-cycle of an agent-based simulation software engineering project while providing a documentation strategy that allows specifying autonomous, adaptive, and interactive software entities in a Multi-Agent System. The study demonstrates how evolutionary path planning can be introduced to improve cognitive agent capabilities within an agent-based simulation environment.

  • To live autonomously, intelligent agents such as robots or virtual characters need ability that recognizes given environment, and learns and chooses adaptive actions. So, we propose an action selection/learning mechanism in intelligent agents. The proposed mechanism employs a hybrid system which integrates a behavior-based method using the reinforcement learning and a cognitive-based method using the symbolic learning. The characteristics of our mechanism are as follows. First, because it learns adaptive actions about environment using reinforcement learning, our agents have flexibility about environmental changes. Second, because it learns environmental factors for the agent's goals using inductive machine learning and association rules, the agent learns and selects appropriate actions faster in given surrounding and more efficiently in extended surroundings. Third, in implementing the intelligent agents, we considers only the recognized states which are found by a state detector rather than by all states. Because this method consider only necessary states, we can reduce the space of memory. And because it represents and processes new states dynamically, we can cope with the change of environment spontaneously.

  • Agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) is used to model of market and social phenomena by utilizing agents' fine-grained behaviors and interactions that cannot be implemented in a conventional simulation. However, ABMS represents irrational agents and hinders the achievement of individual or overall goals since ABMS is based on agent-based software, which follows the principle of rationality at the knowledge level [1]. This problem was solved in the agent-based software engineering (ABSE) field by using behavior laws for the social level [2]. However, they still do not propose the specific development methodology for how to develop the social level in a systematic way. Therefore, in order to propose agent-based modeling and simulation methods that reflect the behavior laws of social level characteristics, our study used the Tropos that can combine ABSE and social behavior laws for the presentation of concrete tasks and deliverables for each development step by step. In addition, the proposed method will be specified through experiments with specific application examples and case studies on the self-adaptive smart grid and the military domain system.

  • We have examined the effects of low concentrations of MNNG, alkylating agent, in survival and mutagenesis in Aspergillus nidulans. Pretreatments of cells with nontoxic and submutagenic doses of MNNG did not reduce the cytotoxic and mutagenic effects of exposure to a high concentration of drug. The results imply that adaptive responses on survival and mutagenesis for MNNG treatments do not occur in Aspergillus nidulans. In the first mitotic cell cycle during germination, the sensitivity to MNNG has been investigated at hourly time interval, and compared with that for UV irradiation. In both UV and MNNG treatments, the sensitivity increased till S cell stage, and decreased while DNA replication continued. Different from that show for UV irradiation, lethality to MNNG reached to the maximum at G2 cell stage.

  • Collective Adaptive System is an adaptive multi-agent system which accomplishes its goal by collaborating various agents. Because the collective property of the Collective Adaptive System is accomplished by the goal of the system being based on collaboration, testing the goal accomplishment and their interactions among heterogeneous agents is important. This paper presents a feasibility study of applying a model-based testing approach using task-based test model to a Collective Adaptive System. This paper describes additional information to be applied for Collective Adaptive System for future studies. To analyze our approach, we applied the proposed approach to a smart home system as a case study; our results indicated that we can systematically derive test cases to check whether the Collective Adaptive System successfully achieved its goals by modifying and extending the existing task model.
