  • Business Intelligence (BI) system is a strategic tool that presents an analytical perspective about business and external environments. Even though its strategic value was well known, users often avoid using it or adopt it ceremonially. In fact, over 50 per cent of BI projects worldwide are reported to end in failure. Such an unexpectedly lower success rate has been a key issue in BI studies. In order to enhance a proper use of information systems, MIS field provided a number of theoretical constructs. One example is Goodhue & Thompson's Task-Technology Fit (TTF). In addition, internalization, the degree to which people make their own effort to modify behavior, was recently suggested as another important determinant of use. Though in MIS community both TTF and internalization proved to be a key determinant of system use, there has been not much study aiming to discover antecedents influencing these constructs. In this study we assert that user participation should be highlighted in BI projects. Especially, we emphasize user participation at the phase of feasibility study that is mainly conducted to determine whether a BI system is essentially necessary and practicable. Our research model employs participative feasibility study as a major antecedent for TTF and internalization that consequently will lead to user satisfaction and actual use. This model was empirically tested on 121 BI system users. The result shows that user participation in feasibility study is positively associated with TTF and internalization, each being related to user satisfaction and system use. It implies that, if an organization has BI users get involved in strategic feasibility study phase, the BI system would turn out to fit users' tasks and, furthermore, users would put more efforts spontaneously in order to use it properly.

  • According to a recent report, Korea first reached aging society in 2000 and it is forecasted that the number of aged people over 65 years old will increase form 7.13%(2000) to 14% or more of total population in Korea in 2022. As many aged peoples are employed as day labor under the financial circumstances after Korean Financial Crisis, it is critical that we should take safety control measures for them. Thus, this study focused on analyzing aged accidents in terms of their characteristics, based on the actual trend of industrial accidents from 1996 to 2001 and the applications of medical treatment for the affected or wounded in Busan metropolitan area for recent 3 years (1999 to 2001) in order to analyze accident characteristics to cope with emergent aging period. As a result of analyzing the above data by job type, it was found that the construction work amounted to 38% of total job type. This result implies that accidents of the aged often occurs in 3D jobs including construction works without reasonable automation, which requires us to establish some preventive policies against those accidents. Moreover, it is found that rapid increasing accidents such as upset or occupational diseases or damages are typically attributed to those in the aged, mainly because the aged employees over 55 years old often have disadvantageous physical conditions such as relatively degraded balance and muscular control ability comparing to the younger. Therefore, it recommended that we should make effective safety policies for the aged and actively apply those policies to them. Moreover, it is required that we should encourage them to actively participate in safety compliance through corresponding trainings.

  • Today, people are becoming more conscious regarding environmental-friendliness, and the society as a whole is becoming more aware of it. With such phenomenon, the purpose of this research is to examine how comfort and pleasantness of indoor environment influences when selecting a place for multi-cultural complex. To demonstrate the stated hypothesis, I have preceded the experiment by selecting the C multi-cultural complex of closed-type structure and T multi-cultural complex of open-type structure. The next step I took, in order to validate the public's awareness of environmental-friendliness, was conducting a survey. I then deducted a conclusion through comparison and analysis of experiment measures with survey result. As a result of the research, the experiment measures of each air, light, heat condition of the T multi-cultural complex of open-type structure had a higher measurement for the comfort and pleasantness than the C multi-cultural complex of closed-type structure. Moreover, after validating the consciousness of the public through the survey, they had a tendency preferring T multi-cultural complex of open-type structure over C multi-cultural complex of closed-type structure in terms of comfort and pleasantness. To summarize, it is proper to conclude that the criteria - comfort and pleasantness of indoor environment - has influenced significantly when it comes to selecting a multi-cultural complex through both the experiment and the survey result.

  • Previous research has shown that people perceive the larger volume for tall and lean cylindrical containers over short and wide containers of the same volume (e.g., Raghubir & Krishna, 1999; Wansink & Van Ittersum, 2003). The present research demonstrated that this elongation effect is reversed for boxes, presumably due to the affordance of the boxes. Two studies showed that participants judge short and wide boxes as having larger volume than long and lean boxes of the same volume. This effect replicated through two types of presentation formats (drawing, Study1; actual object, Study2) when the choice between two boxes was forced (Study 1) and not (Study 2). The results also replicated among participants residing in the U.S. (Study 1) and participants residing in Korea (Study 2). The reversed elongation effect held for liquid materials in general (water, Study 1; drinks, Study 2). Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.

  • It has been commonly assumed that during the 21st century, the korean peninsula may suffer huge earthquake damage to people, society, and economic system. The recent report of "Seoul Earthquake Response model development" conducted by the city of Seoul indicated that a magnitude 6.3 earthquake possibly hit Seoul, the capital of Korea. However, due to the insufficient amount of study on seismic performance of structures reflecting the various types of element peculiar to Korea application of the currently available earthquake damage evaluation methods has limitations. In order to conduct various studies on seismic hazards that are suitable for the actual conditions in Korea, therefore, fundamental studies first have to be properly conducted. The purpose of this study is to serve as the basis of establishing a reliable earthquake damage estimation system, and to provide essential data for the seismic damage evaluation of nonseismically reinforced concrete apartment structures. In this study, a standard type of nonseismically reinforced concrete apartments has been determined based on an extensive survey and careful review of such structures in Korea, and their performance level on seismic loading has been estimated.

  • I investigated the situation of self-realization for oral malodor and real occurrence of it and researched the situation of coincidence by self-administrated questionnaire and real oral malodor of dental hygiene students in Kyeonggi province and Kyeongbuk province to use as a reference data on prevention and treatment of oral malodor. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Concerning the grade of the subjective symptom of oral odor, a little bit oral malodor was the highest by reaching 77.6%, and no oral malodor was 20%. 2. The time when one feels the oral malodor highest was revealed immediately after awakening from the sleep by running up to 88.2%. 3. Concerning the extent of aversion during the occurrence of oral malodor from other people, 57.6% expressed as unpleasant, and 3.5% showed no aversion. 4. Concerning the intention to participate in the prevention program against the oral malodor, 51.8% had intention of it. 5. Hydrogen sulfide 7.61V19.30, methyl mercaptan 9.53V67.90, dimethyl sulfide 58.31V121.37(pF0.05) marked as causing factors in the 132 respondents who answered that they had a little bit oral malodor in comparison with the grade of subjective symptom and the measurement of actual oral malodor. As the above-mentioned results were obtained by limited subjects, the more diversified and precise comparative study is considered to be needed through the classification of various levels of research subjects.

  • Many efforts have been made to improve the management of large-scale green spaces. How to manage large-scale green spaces and their active uses, as well as how to build relationships with local communities have been important issues. For this research, I reviewed the actual status of management, use and citizen participation at large-scale regional parks in Hyogo Prefecture. In addition, I studied the sustainable management through citizen participation of the Awaji Island Regional Park, where I have been involved for several years. I conducted various projects related to the use and management of the park, and examined the direction of citizen participation by conducting questionnaires and interviews. (1) Through interviews about the park, I collected opinions, including good points, problems, and potential solutions through physical and programming measures. (2) I examined what kinds of activities should be conducted in the park in order to revitalize park use and stimulate the surrounding communities. (3) I examined the current status of citizen participation while citizens carried out activities of their own planning. (4) I studied what is necessary to sustain park events and other activities. As a result, I came to the following conclusions. (1) Provision of information that is easy to access, including signs in the park, explanation of routes in large parks, and other techniques that help people become familiar with park facilities, is very important. (2) Local community events, and programs that draw out the willingness and capabilities of volunteers are effective. (3) Several different types of participation exist, including volunteers, guests, staff who work continuously for the project, coordinators, and professional specialists. (4) To sustain citizen involvement in the use and management of large-scale parks, a system that includes coordinators should be developed.

  • A bedridden patients, elderly people, and dementia who are subject to special care at a medical institution can not handle the feces themselves and need the help of a guardian or care-giver. In particular, toxic substances are contained in the stools, which can cause eczema, dermatitis and urticaria, so it is important to replace diapers. In this paper, we propose a wearable device design for the detection of excretions in consideration of the various excretion requirements of the elderly. The device is a form in which a module are attached to an adult diaper used in a nursing hospital to detect excreta, and the presence or absence of a wearer can be confirmed by an LED. The measured data is transmitted to the smartphone app in real time via Bluetooth in the module and can be checked for popup notification. The validity of this study was verified by comparing the actual excretion with the data collected through the designed module.
