  • Natural products and natural product structures play a general and highly significant role in drug discovery and development process because it has various merits and potentials for new drug source that have extensive clinical experience, development time contraction, excellent stability and safety. In several neurological disorders, neuronal death and excessive activation of microglia (neuro-inflammation) are observed. A number of drug discovery-related neuronal cell death and neuro-inflammation was studied from natural products, respectively. However, until now, it has not been possible to study dual-protection molecules recorded in the Natural Product library. In the present study, using the natural product-derived library of the Institute for Korea Traditional Medical Industry, we investigated dual-protective molecules against glutamate (a classical excitatory neurotransmitter)-induced oxidative stress mediated neuronal cell death and LPS-induced excessive activated microglial cells (immune cells of the brain). Chrysophanol, extracted from Rheum palmatum, had dual-protective effects against both glutamate-induced neuronal cell death and LPS-induced NO production, triggering proinflammatory cytokines and microglia activation and resulting in neuroinflammation. Flow-cytometry analysis revealed that chrysophanol had a scavenger effect, scavenging glutamate- and LPS-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by neuronal and microglial cells, respectively. Based on the present study, chrysophanol may have an important protective role against neuronal cell death and neuroinflammation in the brain. The results may be helpful for studying drug development candidates for treating central nervous system disorders.

  • Reading activities and after-reading-programs were appled to students of 4 school years from 2 to 5 school year who read subject books separately, in order to activate reading activities after reading. After-reading-programs make, supply and utilize analytical reading materials of subject books for 5 days of reading camp and that consist of composition of impressions of the book, presentation of that reading discussion and a picture of impressions of the book. The results show that most of all composition describing their impressions of the book contributes to activation of reading activities after reading very much among four types of after-readings. The next reading discussion is effective and presentation Is also good. But a picture of their impressions of the book does not vet promote activation of after reading activities.

  • To develop an efficient procedure related to the flamelet library, the machine learning process based on artificial neural network(ANN) is applied for the gaseous hydrogen/liquid oxygen combustor under a supercritical pressure condition. For hidden layers, 25 combinations based on Rectified Linear Unit(ReLU) and hyperbolic tangent are adopted to find an optimum architecture in terms of the computational efficiency and the training performance. For activation functions, the hyperbolic tangent is proper to get the high learning performance for accurate properties. A transformation learning data is proposed to improve the training performance. When the optimal node is arranged for the 4 hidden layers, it is found to be the most efficient in terms of training performance and computational cost. Compared to the interpolation procedure, the ANN procedure reduces computational time and system memory by 37% and 99.98%, respectively.

  • Mitochondrial dynamics not only involves mitochondrial morphology but also mitochondrial biogenesis, mitochondrial distribution, and cell death. To identify specific regulators to mitochondria dynamics, we screened a chemical library and identified niclosamide as a potent inducer of mitochondria fission. Niclosamide promoted mitochondrial fragmentation but this was blocked by down-regulation of Drp1. Niclosamide treatment resulted in the disruption of mitochondria membrane potential and reduction of ATP levels. Moreover, niclosamide led to apoptotic cell death by caspase-3 activation. Interestingly, niclosamide also increased autophagic activity. Inhibition of autophagy suppressed niclosamide-induced cell death. Therefore, our findings suggest that niclosamide induces mitochondria fragmentation and may contribute to apoptotic and autophagic cell death.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of in-depth analysis of internal operation process by recording library calls and related information that occur in the operation process of NoSQL database. It observes and records the specified library calls, compares the internal behavior differences between the NoSQL databases through recorded library call information, and evaluates the characteristics and scalability of each database by observing changes in the number of input data. The development of computing performance and the activation of big data have led to the emergence of different types of NoSQL databases for recording and analyzing various and large amounts of data, and it is necessary to evaluate the scalability of each database in order to select a database suitable for each environment. However, it is difficult to analyze or predict how a database operates in traditional ways, such as benchmarking, observing external behavior through performance models, or analyzing structural features based on design. Therefore, it is necessary to utilize the techniques proposed in this paper to understand the scalability of NoSQL databases with high accuracy.

  • A cancer-associated antigen gene (CAGE) was identified by serological analysis of a recombinant cDNA expression library (SEREX). The gene was identified by screening cDNA expression libraries of human testis and gastric cancer cell lines with sera from patients with gastric cancer. CAGE was found to contain a D-E-A-D box domain and encodes a putative protein of 630 amino acids with possible helicase activity. The CAGE gene is widely expressed in various cancer tissues and cancer cell lines. Demethylation plays a role in the activation of CAGE in certain cancer cell lines where the gene is not expressed. The functional roles of CAGE in tumorigenesis, the molecular mechanisms of CAGE expression, and cell motility are also discussed.

  • This study aims to develop the lesson plan of public library user education for children for the activation of user education. For the development of lesson plan, elementary school 3rd and 4th graders were selected as user education subjects through the literature survey, and orientation were derived as contents of user education. This study developed a lesson plan that applies Jonassen's constructivist learning environments to specifically design the librarian's role as teacher in user education with voluntary and subjective education participation of the children. Lesson plan was evaluated in terms of usefulness and appropriateness.

  • This study aims to analyze the direction of the reading education programs based on the 2015 revised curriculum and to seek the plans for the school library and the teacher librarian to be able to contribute them. For this purpose, the types of school-based reading education programs in the report of 100 excellent school curriculum in 2016, which was first applied by the amended curriculum were analyzed through multiple intelligences. Upon the analysis results, the reading education programs in the schools showed to be operated with interpersonal Intelligence. Community-aligned reading was the most frequently operated in the primary schools while student reading club activities were the most common in the middle and high schools. In case of reading education program related to linguistic intelligence, the most commonly operated ways were reading books, writing with literatures, and writing book report, in primary, middle, and high schools, respectively. In case of reading education program related to spatial intelligence, media production type showed the most commonly operated in all types of schools. However, there was no reading program related to naturalist intelligence. Based on these analysis results, the plans to contribute the activation of reading education programs by school libraries under the 2015 amended curriculum were suggested in the aspects of development of connection programs with teachers, students and parents as the center of education community, installation and operation of maker spaces and enhancement of program management and inquiry-based learning competency of teacher librarians.
