In this research, the curly dock was used in the process of dyeing for fabrics of the inner wear & the patient wear. Since the curly dock has a pharmacological effect on dermatosis, this study focused on the variety of color and functions of the inner wear fabrics & patient wear fabrics to make the best use of the pharmacological effect of curly dock. With regards to giving a variety of colors and functions in the inner wear, patient wear fabrics, the curly dock dye was used in each treatment conditions on the cotton & silk fabrics. After dyeing, the dyeability, color change, light fastness, washing fastness, perspiration fastness, antibiosis, far infrared emissivity and emission power were evaluated. The evaluation results are as follows; The dyeablity increased from repeated dyeing and, by using the mordant, variety of colors such as skin, mustard, greyish-brown and dark earth colors were conformed to the naked eye. Fe mordant was better than Al on the lightfastness and the washing fastness. The repeated dyeing was found out to have less effect on neither lightfastness nor washing fastness. Both silk and cotton fabrics were graded $3{\sim}4$, since their degree of degradation appeared to be the same in alkali perspiration and acidic perspiration. In the case of silk fabrics mordanted by Al, the rate of declining in both Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 4352 were 99.9%. In addition, the antibiosis was enhanced when the mordant was used. The far infrared was 86.6% of emissivity, $3.34{\times}10^2\;W/m^2{\cdot}{\mu}m$ emission power.

In order to remove pollutants from the soil in the Ka-hak mine site, this study investigates optimization of the acid washing conditions for the soil. The soil at the site is presumed to be contaminated by diffused heavy-metal-contaminated tailings. The major heavy metal pollutants in the soil are copper, lead, and zinc. Gravels larger than 5mm in size constitute approximately 38% of the soil, and these are the least polluted by heavy metals. On the other hand, it is difficult to reduce the concentration of heavy metals in fine soils, particularly those whose sizes are less than 0.075 mm. The results of the continuous process using a hydro-cyclone show that fine soil particles consisting of at least 20% of the raw soil must be separated before the chemical soil washing process in order to achieve reliable cleaning.

Objectives : This study was carried out to evaluate the quality of different drying methods and different roots(primary root and lateral root) of Angelica gigas Nakai. Methods : The experimental method was performed according to the Korea Pharmacopoea Eleventh edition (KP11). Loss on drying, ash, acid insoluble ash, ethanol extract, nodakenin and total decursin contents were tested to evaluate the quality of root tissue of Angelica gigas Nakai. In addition, the treatment of different root parts were prepared in two groups of washing dry process and natural dry process. Results : In comparison of dry processing methods, total contents of nodakenin and total decursin in the primary root and lateral root through washing dry process were ranged from 3.55 to 4.09% and from 5.18 to 6.13%, respectively. And also, those of roots from the natural dry process were from 4.36 to 6.22% and from 6.28 to 8.34%, respectively. In the washing dry process and natural dry process methods, 47.9% and 22.3% higher amount of nodakenin and total decursin were measured in lateral root compared to primary root. In common, lateral roots accumulated higher contents of nodakenin and total decursin compared to primary roots, and samples drying processed with natural dry process compared to washing dry process method contained higher amount of compounds. Conclusions : We sincerely hope that this study will be contributed to the standardization and quality control of Angelica Gigas Root.
Quality changes of crown daisy and kale were investigated during storage at 10$^{\circ}C$ after washing with cooled electrolyzed acid water at 3 times in 2 min. Total count and coliform count of crown daisy and kale after immersion in electrolyzed acid water were decreased to 1/130 and 1/1,170 of non-immersed crown daisy and to l/870 and l/470 of non-immersed kale. However total count and coliform count were increased to the similar levels of non-immesed and tap water immersed one after 6 days of storage. Weight loss of crown daisy and ka1e were lower than others for 3 days of storage but higher than that of one after that time. Decay rate of crown daisy and kale immersed electrolyzed acid water showed lower than that of non-immersed and tap water immersed one for 6 days. In case of kale, rupture strength was higher than others at just after immersion and showed similar values after initial storage period. Color value of both crown daisy and kale showed high L, b and low a value in the order of electrolyzed acid water, tap water and non-treatment. Chlorophyll content of crown daisy and kale were lower than those of others just after immersion in electrolyzed acid water, but showed rapid reduction in the order of non-treatment. tap water and electrolyzed acid water after 6 days. Overall organoleptic properties of crown daisy and kale in immersion electrolyzed acid water were higher than those of others.
Arsenic (As) usually is bound to amorphous iron oxides in the soils, and it can be removed via dissolution of iron oxides. Inorganic acid and chelating agent are widely used to extract As in the soil washing. However, the overall performance is highly dependent on the state of As fractionation. In this study, oxalic acid and inorganic acids (HCl, $H_2SO_4$, and $H_3PO_4$) were applied to enhance the dissolution of iron oxides for remediation of As-contaminated soils. Oxalic acid was most effective to extract As from soils and removal of As was two times greater than other inorganic acids. Additionally, 75% of As bound to amorphous iron oxides was removed by 0.2 M oxalic acid. Arsenic removal by oxalic acid was directly proportional to the sum of labile fractions of As instead of the total concentration of As. Therefore, the oxalic acid could extract most As bound to amorphous iron oxides.
본 연구는 돼지 난포란의 체외 성숙시 hyaluronic acid (HA) 및 Tocopherol첨가가 돼지 수정란의 배발달에 미치는 효과를 검토하기 위하여 실시하였다. 돼지 난포란은 0.1% PVA, 3.05mM D-Glucose, 0.91mM sodium pyruvate, 0.57mM cysteine, 0.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ LH, 0.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ FSH and 10ng/$m\ell$ EGF가 첨가된 TCM-199에서 HA와 Tocopherol을 농도별로 첨가하여 42~44시간 배양함으로써 체외성숙을 유도하였다.
The demand of packaged baby leaves has been increased for its convenient use as fresh-cut produce. This investigation was aimed to explore the effects of different sanitizers on the quality parameters of 'Tah Tasai' Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris var. narinosa) baby leaves. Thirteen days old baby leaves were harvested and washed in tap water (TW), 100 ppm chlorine solution (Cl), 2 ppm ozonated water ($O_3$), 15 ppm chlorine dioxide solution ($ClO_2$) and washing with 0.2% citric acid solution followed by 50% ethanol spray (CA+Et). The samples were then packaged in 50 ${\mu}m$ polyethylene bags and stored at $5^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. Off-odor of packaged baby leaves was not detected during storage. There was no significant difference in color parameters among the treatments. Samples treated with $O_3$ showed substantially higher electrolyte leakage throughout the storage. This treatment also rendered a higher accumulation of $CO_2$ in the packages. Samples treated with Cl and CA+Et maintained good overall visual quality with higher scores compared to that of $O_3$ and $ClO_2$. Although Cl treatment showed lower number of total aerobic count at the beginning of storage, citric acid in combination with ethanol treatment was more effective until the end of storage. The combined treatment also showed comparatively lower coliform plate count. This result indicates that citric acid wash followed by ethanol spray could be an alternative to chlorine for environment friendly sanitization of baby leaves.

Molecular diagnostics consists of three processes, which are a sample pretreatment, a nucleic acid amplification, and an amplicon detection. Among three components, sample pretreatment is an important process in that it can increase the limit of detection by purifying nucleic acid in biological sample from contaminants that may interfere with the downstream genetic analysis such as nucleic acid amplification and detection. To achieve point-of-care virus detection system, the sample pretreatment process needs to be simple, rapid, and automatic. However, the commercial RNA extraction kits such as Rneasy (Qiagen) or MagnaPure (Roche) kit are highly labor-intensive and time-consuming due to numerous manual steps, and so it is not adequate for the on-site sample preparation. Herein, we have developed a rotary microfluidic system to extract and purify the RNA without necessity of external mechanical syringe pumps to allow flow control using microfluidic technology. We designed three reservoirs for sample, washing buffer, and elution buffer which were connected with different dimensional microfluidic channels. By controlling RPM, we could dispense a RNA sample solution, a washing buffer, and an elution buffer successively, so that the RNA was captured in the sol-gel solid phase, purified, and eluted in the downstream. Such a novel rotary sample preparation system eliminates some complicated hardwares and human intervention providing the opportunity to construct a fully integrated genetic analysis microsystem.
The efficiences of mineral acid (HCl), neutral salts ($CaCl_2$), and chelating agent (citric acid and $Na_2$-EDTA) were tested for extracting heavy metals from open burning and open detonation (OBOD) site soil. The extraction efficiencies of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn from soil for various extractants were in the order of HCl > citric acid > $Na_2$-EDTA > $CaCl_2$, HCl (1.0 M) extracted effectively 82%, 86%, 80%, and 46% of initial total concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn, respectively. Significant negative correlations were observed between pH of extractant and amount of extracted heavy metals. Initially, examined heavy metals were predominantly bound to carbonate and Fe, Mn-oxide fraction. Though the significant amount of carbonate and Fe, Mn-oxide bounded metals were removed but a significant amount remained metals shifted to exchangeable (more mobile) fraction by HCl and citric acid extraction. The increased mobility of remaining metals could be problematic for water resources, thus careful management is needed to control the movement of heavy metals.
This study was investigated the effects of various commercial sanitizers on microbial characteristics in fresh-cut iceberg lettuce during storage. For screening sanitizer, lettuce was cut and dipped in chlorine water ($0.2ml{\cdot}L^{-1}$), solution of organic acids such as ascorbic acid, citric acid, acetic acid, mixture of ascorbic acid and acetic acid (1-6%), and solutions of commercial sanitizers such as Formula 4$^{TM}$ (1,3,4%), Fresh produce wash$^{TM}$ (1,3,4%), Cleancol$^{TM}$ (1%), Chitochol$^{TM}$ (1%) and Natural Ca$^{TM}$ (0.1%) for 3 min, respectively. Washing lettuce with selected sanitizers resulted in reduction of aerobic bacteria of more than 2 log CFU/g. Initial pH of lettuce was related with the pH of sanitizers. pH ranged from 4.7 to 6.1 in Formula 4 (4%, pH 1.7) and Natural Ca (0.1%, pH 12.0), respectively. Chlorine water showed consistent and significant inhibition effect in all of microorganisms except total coliform. Over 3% of Formula 4 and Fresh produce wash were found to have high bactericidal activity among sanitizers. The sanitizers of chlorine water, Fresh produce wash, Chitochol and Natural Ca were effective in reducing yeast and mould populations. As coliform and E. coli, Formula 4 (4%) showed the highest bactericidal activity. The bactericidal effect of commercial sanitizers during storage varied with the kinds and concentrations of tested sanitizers. Although inhibition effect was not showed during storage, these results suggest that commercial sanitizers could be an alternative to chlorine for washing fresh-cut produce.
