Effects of thinning intensity on nutrient concentration and enzyme activity in Larix kaempferi forest soils

  • Background: As the decomposition of lignocellulosic compounds is a rate-limiting stage in the nutrient mineralization from organic matters, elucidation of the changes in soil enzyme activity can provide insight into the nutrient dynamics and ecosystem functioning. The current study aimed to assess the effect of thinning intensities on soil conditions. Un-thinned control, 20 % thinning, and 30 % thinning treatments were applied to a Larix kaempferi forest, and total carbon and nitrogen, total carbon to total nitrogen ratio, extractable nutrients (inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, potassium), and enzyme activities (acid phosphatase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, ${\beta}$-xylosidase, ${\beta}$-glucosaminidase) were investigated. Results: Total carbon and nitrogen concentrations were significantly increased in the 30 % thinning treatment, whereas both the 20 and 30 % thinning treatments did not change total carbon to total nitrogen ratio. Inorganic nitrogen and extractable calcium and magnesium concentrations were significantly increased in the 20 % thinning treatment; however, no significant changes were found for extractable phosphorus and potassium concentrations either in the 20 or the 30 % thinning treatment. However, the applied thinning intensities had no significant influences on acid phosphatase, ${\beta}$-glucosidase, ${\beta}$-xylosidase, and ${\beta}$-glucosaminidase activities. Conclusions: These results indicated that thinning can elevate soil organic matter quantity and nutrient availability, and different thinning intensities may affect extractable soil nutrients inconsistently. The results also demonstrated that such inconsistent patterns in extractable nutrient concentrations after thinning might not be fully explained by the shifts in the enzyme-mediated nutrient mineralization.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Acid Thinned and High Pressure Treated Waxy Rice Starch for Yugwa (Korean Rice Snack) Production

  • The acid modification of waxy rice starch was conducted to improve the yugwa production process. The intrinsic viscosity, paste viscosity, and differential scanning calorimetry characteristics of acid modified starch were measured, and bandaegi and yugwa prepared from acid modified starch were evaluated. The intrinsic viscosities of acid thinned starches were 1.48, 1.27, 1.15, and 0.91 mL/g after reaction times of 1, 2, 3, and 4 hr, respectively. The gelatinization enthalpy was reduced from 16.3 J/g in native starch to 15.8, 15.3, 14.7, and 14.5 J/g in acid thinned starches as the time of acid thinning increased. The peak viscosity and final viscosity decreased with increasing the time of acid thinning, but the pasting temperature was slightly increased in acid thinned starches. The hardness of bandaegi from acid thinned starches under high pressure greatly decreased relative to the control, typical yugwa. Yugwa from acid thinned starch under high pressure maintained a homogeneous structure containing tiny and uniform cells similar to that of native waxy rice starch used for typical yugwa. Acid thinning under high pressure appears to be a good alternative to the existing steeping process for better yugwa quality.

  • The likelihood of failure for the thinning of high temperature sulfide and naphthenic acid corrosion, which affect to a risk of facilities, was analyzed through the risk based inspection using API-581 BRD. We found that the corrosion rate was increased with increasing temperature and total acid number(TAN). And maximum value of the technical module subfactor(TMSF) was not varied with operating condition, but the TMSF was sensitively changed at the range of low temperature, low flow rate, and high TAN. Also, the TMSF was increased as an used year and inspection effectiveness increased, but it was increased as thickness, inspection number, and over design decreased.

Inhibition Effect Against Elastase, Collagenase, Hyaluronidase and Anti-oxidant Activity of Thinning Green Ball Apple

  • The thinning Green ball apple was extracted using water and ethanol and a phenolic concentration of thinning Green ball apple was $50-200{\mu}g/mL$. The water and ethanol extracts of thinning Green ball apple showed 94.69% and 92.24% 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and 100.30% and 99.16% 2,2'-Azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activity at phenolic concentration of $200{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The water and ethanol extracts of thinning Green ball apple showed antioxidant protection factor of 1.76 antioxidant protection factor and 1.76 antioxidant protection factor, respectively. The water and ethanol extracts showed 101.46% and 99.64% anti-oxidative effect on thiobarbituric acid reactive substances at phenolic concentration of $200{\mu}g/mL$. Hence, the water and ethanol extracts of thinning Green ball apple can be considered a potential anti-oxidant. The water and ethanol extracts showed 33.28% and 32.14% hyaluronidase inhibition, respectively, at phenolic concentration of $150{\mu}g/mL$. The water and ethanol extracts showed 47.33% and 40.92% elastase inhibition and 46.19% and 65.58% collagenase inhibition at phenolic concentration of $200{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. About these experiments, thinning Green ball apple was found to exhibit anti-oxidation activity as well as hyaluronidase, elastase and collagenase inhibitory activities. Therefore, thinning Green ball apple can be considered a potential source for functional food.

적방.적화 처리가 하이부쉬 'Jersey' 블루베리 과실의 수량과 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Cluster and Flower Thinning on Yield and Fruit Quality in Highbush 'Jersey' Blueberry)

  • 본 연구는 하이부쉬 블루베리(Vaccinium corymbosum) 'Jersey' 품종을 이용하여 적방 1/3, 적방 1/3 +적화 1/2, 적방 2/3 및 적방 2/3 + 적화 1/2처리 후 무처리 과실의 수확량과 과실 품질을 조사하여 적방 적화 정도에 따른 수량과 과실 크기, 가용성당함량, 산함량, 과실 경도를 분석하였다. 적방 적화 처리는 과립중, 종경 및 횡경에 유의한 과립 비대효과를 가져왔다. 과실 수확량은 무처리와 적방 1/3 처리구에서 가장 높았으며, 그 이외의 처리에서는 과립비대는 이루어졌으나 수확량의 감소가 발생하였다. 무처리와 적방 1/3 처리의 경우 전체 수확량은 비슷하였으나, 적방 1/3 처리구에서는 상품성이 큰 대립의 과실이 차지하는 비율이 무처리에 비해서 큰 것으로 조사되었다. 가용성당함량은 적방과 적화 처리에 따라 수량이 감소한 적방 2/3, 적방 2/3 + 적화 1/2 처리구에서 유의하게 증가하였으나, 산함량과 경도에는 영향을 미치지 않았다. 적방 적화에 따른 영향은 과립 비대와 수량에 유의한 차이를 주었으나 과실품질에는 크게 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 조사되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 글라스를 $100{\mu}m$ 이하의 두께로 박판화하기 위한 새로운 습식 에칭방법 및 에칭 용액을 검토하였다. $NH_4F$ 또는 $NH_4HF_2$를 주성분으로 황산 또는 질산을 첨가한 경우 에칭 용액의 불산 함유량을 저감하는 데에 효과가 있었다. 혼산 용액의 조성과 온도의 영향을 검토하였으며, 음이온계 계면활성제의 첨가는 에칭반응에 의해 생성되는 슬러지의 부착을 억제해주는 효과가 있었다. 수류 발생부를 가지는 새로운 파일럿 장비를 사용하여 상용 무알칼리 글라스와 소다라임 글라스의 에칭 실험을 실시하였다. $640{\mu}m$ 두께의 무알칼리 글라스를 $45{\mu}m$ 두께로 $500{\mu}m$ 두께의 소다라임 글라스를 $100{\mu}m$ 두께로 박판화하였으며, 에칭 후의 표면 조도는 $0.01{\sim}0.02{\mu}m$를 유지하였다.

잣나무의 수형조절(VII) - 잣나무의 간벌과 수형조절이 종자의 성분에 미치는 영향(제1보) - (Crown Shape Control of Pinus koraiensis S. et Z. (VII) - The Influence of Thinning and Stem Pruning on Seed Component(The First Report) -)

  • 간벌과 수형조절이 종자생산량을 증가시키므로 이로 인해 잣 종자의 성분에 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지에 대하여 알아보기 위해 각 처리별(간벌목, 무간벌목, 채종목, 1m 단간목 및 2m 단간목)로 종자성분 분석을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 간벌목과 무간별목의 일반성분(수분, 회분, 조지방 및 조단백질)은 두 처리간 유의성이 인정되지 않아 간벌이 종자의 성분에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 채종목과 수형조절목(1m 단간목, 2m 단간목)의 일반성분 역시 두 처리간 유의성이 인정되지 않아 수형조절 또한 종자의 성분에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. (2) 간벌목과 무간별목의 지방산 분석은 함유량의 대부분(94% 이상)을 차지하는 Linoleic acid(18:2), Oleic acid(18:1), Palmitic acid(16:0)가 처리간 유의성이 인정되지 않았고, 필수지방산 2종을 모두 함유하고 있어 간벌은 잣 종자의 지방산 함량에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 채종목과 수형조절목의 지방산 역시 함유량의 대부분(93% 이상)을 차지하는 Linoleic acid(18:2), Oleic acid(18:1), Palmitic acid(16:0)가 처리간 유의성이 인정되지 않았으며, 필수지방산 2종을 모두 함유하고 있어 수형조절은 잣 종자의 지방산 함량에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다 따라서 간별과 수형조절에 따른 구과 생산량의 증대는 종자의 일반성분과 지방산 함량에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 사료된다.

API-581 절차에 의한 위험기반검사에서 염산부식의 두께감소에 의한 사고발생 가능성 해석 (Analysis of Likelihood of Failure for the Thinning of Hydrochloric Acid Corrosion through Risk-Based Inspection using API-581 BRD)

  • 본 연구에서는 압력설비의 위험 원인분석 방법을 제시하기 위하여 API-581 절차에 의한 위험기반검사(RBI)에서 염산부식의 두께감소로 인한 사고발생 가능성을 해석하였다. 이를 위해 사고발생 가능성의 주요 인자인 기술종속계수(TMSF)를 산출하고, TMSF에 미치는 매개변수의 영향을 정량적으로 해석하였다. 그 결과, TMSF는 염화이온 농도와 온도가 증가할수록 증가하였으나, 설비두께, 검사횟수 및 검사유효성이 증가할수록 감소하였으며, 모니터링이 있는 경우와 과설계계수가 1.5배 이상인 경우에는 상당히 적은 값을 나타내었다. 이때, 검사횟수, 검사유효성 등급 및 과설계 계수의 크기에 따라 TMSF가 민감하게 변화하였으며, 모니터링은 TMSF의 크기만 변화시켰다.

Drop formation of Carbopol dispersions displaying yield stress, shear thinning and elastic properties in a flow-focusing microfluidic channel

  • The drop formation dynamics of a shear thinning, elastic, yield stress ($\tau_o$) fluid (Carbopol 980 (poly(acrylic acid)) dispersions) in silicone oil has been investigated in a flow-focusing microfluidic channel. The rheological character of each solution investigated varied from Netwonian-like through to highly non-Newtonian and was varied by changing the degree of neutralization along the poly (acrylic acid) backbone. We have observed that the drop size of these non-Newtonian fluids (regardless of the degree of neutralisation) showed bimodal behaviour. At first we observed increases in drop size with increasing viscosity ratio (viscosity ratio=viscosity of dispersed phase (DP)/viscosity of continuous phase (CP)) at low flowrates of the continuous phases, and thereafter, decreasing drop sizes as the flow rate of the CP increases past a critical value. Only at the onset of pinching and during the high extensional deformation during pinch-off of a drop are any differences in the non-Newtonian characteristics of these fluids, that is extents of shear thinning, elasticity and yield stress ($\tau_o$), apparent. Changes in these break-off dynamics resulted in the observed differences in the number and size distribution of secondary drops during pinch-off for both fluid classes, Newtonian-like and non-Newtonian fluids. In the case of the Newtonian-like drops, a secondary drop was generated by the onset of necking and breakup at both ends of the filament, akin to end-pinching behavior. This pinch-off behavior was observed to be unaffected by changes in viscosity ratio, over the range explored. Meanwhile, in the case of the non-Newtonian solutions, discrete differences in behaviour were observed, believed to be attributable to each of the non-Newtonian properties of shear thinning, elasticity and yield stress. The presence of a yield stress ($\tau_o$), when coupled with slow flow rates or low viscosities of the CP, reduced the drop size compared to the Newtonian-like Carbopol dispersions of much lower viscosity. The presence of shear thinning resulted in a rapid necking event post onset, a decrease in primary droplet size and, in some cases, an increase in the rate of drop production. The presence of elasticity during the extensional flow imposed by the necking event allowed for the extended maintenance of the filament, as observed previously for dilute solutions of linear polymers during drop break-up.

수종(數種)의 약제(藥劑)가 배나무의 낙과(落果) 및 에틸렌 발생(發生)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Some Chemials on Ethylene Evolution and Abscission of Fruits and Leaves in Oriental Pera)

  • 낙과(落果)를 유기할 수 있는 약제(藥劑)인 NAA, MEP제(劑), carbaryl 및 ethephon을 배 장십랑(長十郞)과 금촌추(今村秋)에 처리(處理)하여 낙과(落果)와 ethylene과의 관련성을 조사(調査)하는 한편 낙과량(落果量)을 조절하기 위한 방법으로 calcium acetate를 가용(加用)한 ethephon과 carbaryl를 처리(處理)하였을 때의 낙과(落果)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 조사(調査)하기 위(爲)하여 본(本) 실험(實驗)을 실시(實施)하였다. 1. 장십랑(長十郞)의 경우는 MEP제(劑), NAA, carbaryl, ethephon 모두 적과효과(摘果效果)가 있었으나 금촌추(今村秋)의 경우는 MEP와 carbaryl만 적과효과(摘果效果)가 인정(認定)되었다. 2. ethylene 발생량(發生量)은 ethephon 처리구(處理區)만이 촉진(促進)되었고 MEP제(劑), NAA, carbaryl는 영향(影響)을 미치지 않았다. 3. 과실내(果實內)의 당함량(糖含量)에는 MEP제(劑), NAA, carbaryl, ethephon 모두 영향(影響)을 미치지 않았다. 4. calcium acetate를 가용(加用)하므로서 ethephon이나 carbaryl에 의(依)한 적과효과(摘果效果)가 소실(消失)되었다. 5. ethephon에 가용(加用)한 calcium acetate의 농도(濃度)에 따라 낙엽율(落葉率)을 조절(調節)할 수 있었다. 이상(以上)의 결과(結果)로 보아 공시(供試)한 약제(藥劑)들이 낙과(落果)를 일으키는 것은 ethephon을 제외하고는 ethylene이 직접적(直接的)인 낙과원인(落果原因)이 아니라는 것을 알 수 있었고, 한편 calcium acetate를 적량가용(適量加用)하므로서 적과정도(摘果程度)의 조절(調節)이 가능(可能)하다는 것이 밝혀졌다.
