The effect of collagen dissolution in acid conditioned dentin layer on resin - dentin adhesion was investigated. 160 freshly extracted human molars were divided into 4 groups randomly and dentin surfaces were exposed. 40 exposed dentin surfaces were not acid conditioned and each 10 of them were applied with bonding agents within dentin bonding systems of All Bond 2, Scotchbond Multipurpose, Clearfil Photobond and Superbond D - Liner respectively. Each 10 of another 40 exposed dentin surfaces were acid conditioned by the acid within the above four bonding systems respectively and applied with corresponding bonding systems. After acid conditioning of the other 40 exposed dentin surfaces as above, they were treated with 5% NaOCl for 2 minutes, and each 10 of them were applied with the above four dentin bonding systems respectively. The remaining 40 dentin surfaces were acid conditioned and treated with 10% NaOCl for 2 minutes, and each 10 of them were applied with corresponding bonding agents as the above. After the procedures were finished, composite resin (Z -100, 3M Dent. Prod., USA) were applied on the dentin surfaces and light cured. Shear bond strength values were measured. Surface changes of fractured dentin specimens were observed using SEM (Hitachi S-2350, Japan). The following results were obtained. 1. In all of dentin bonding systems, shear bond strengths of non - conditioned specimens were significantly lower than those of acid conditioned specimens (P<0.05). 2. A statistically significant difference of bond strengths did not exist between acid conditioned specimens and 5% NaGCI retreated specimens applied with All Bond 2, Scotchbond Multipurpose and Clearfil Photobond (P>0.05). However, strength values of 5% NaOCl retreated specimens applied with Superbond D - Liner were lower than those of acid conditioned specimens (P<0.05). 3. In all the applied dentin bonding systems except Clearfil Photobond, bond strengths of 10% NaOCl retreated specimens were lower than those of acid conditioned and 5% NaOCl retreated specimens (P<0.05). 4. The resin - dentin hybrid layer of 4 - $5{\mu}m$ thickness was formed in the acid conditioned specimens applied with All Bond 2, Scotchbond Multipurpose and Superbond D-Liner. 5. The resin - dentin hybrid layer of 3 - $4{\mu}m$ thickness was still formed in the 5% NaOCl retreated specimens applied with All Bond 2 and Scotchbond Multipurpose. In addition, this layer was not completely removed after the retreatment with 10% NaOCl. Above results indicate that the dissolution of collagen in acid conditioned dentin layer by NaOCl solution can not be achieved completely and the collagens contribute to the resin - dentin adhesion considerably.

In this study a series of tests(bench scale test) are carried out for increasing in strength of clayey soil by EK-Injection method. In addition, the effects of strength increase in the treated sample are measured by operating the vane shear test device during 25 days at 5 days intervals in order to estimate the effect of ground improvement caused by diffusion. The test results show that the strength increase was developed approximately double to 7 times in comparison to initial shear strength, and outstanding strength increase was created as much as 7 times while injecting the sodium silicate and phosphoric acid in anolyte and catholyte. In addition, the measured shear strength with the influence of diffusion and reduction of water-content had a tendency to converge in constant value in proportion to elapsed time. As a result of this study, strength increment developed by the influence of EK-Injection and diffusion rather than the reduction of water-content were high as 1000% on average
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of etching time, environmental temperature and humidity on the adhesion of composite resin to glass-ionomer cement. Two chemical cure composite resins (Clearfil F II and Microrest AP) and two glass-ionomer cements (Fuji ionomer Type I and KET AC-CEM) were used as the experimental materials. The experiment is performed in 3 stages: The first stage is to bond composite resins to glass-ionomer cements, and the surface was not etched, and etched for 20 seconds, 40 seconds, and 60 seconds. Then specimens are stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours to measure tensile strength. The second stage is to choose the one group that had the highest tensile strength from the first stage and prepare two experimental groups: One group with composite resin bonded to glass-ionomer cement without etching and bonding agent application and the other with composite resin bonded to glass-ionomer cement with etching but without any bonding agent application. The specimens are stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours and tensile strength is measured. The third stage is to choose group that had the highest tensile strength from the first stage experiment, and bond composite resin to glass-ionomer cement at $24^{\circ}C$ 44%, $30^{\circ}C$ 44%, $30^{\circ}C$ 80%, and $32^{\circ}C$ 92%. The storage time of specimens is to bond immediately after storage, then changed to 30 sec., 60 sec., and 120 sec.. Specimens are stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours and their tensile strength are measured again. The following results were obtained: 1. As the etching time increases, the tensile bond strength between glass-ionomer cement and composite resin increase, and the tensile bond strength is the highest when acid etched for 60 minutes (P < 0.05). 2. After acid etching for 60 minutes, the tensile strength of the group with bonding agent was stronger than that without bonding agent application (P < 0.05). 3. The tensile strength of Clearfil F II was stronger than that of Microrest AP. 4. It was observed that the tensile bond strength is not affected by different storage time with different temperature and humidity. 5. As the humidity was increased, the tensile bond strength between glass-ionomer cement and composite resin decreased (P < 0.05).
Polymer emulsion was used as the admixture for the purpose of increasing the mechanical properties of cement mortar. The effect of polymer emulsion admixture on compressive strength and tensile strength and chemical resistance, relative humidity on compressive and tensile strength, sand particles on water absorption were studied. The results were as follows. 1. Polymer emulson modified mortar cured under 95% of realative humidity showed lower strength than the mortar cured at dry condition. 2. The maximum strength was attained at 10~20% of polystyrene and polyacrylic acid ester polymer-cement mortar. 3. The modified mortar (sand size rate (-9+35)mech:(-35+60)mech=4 : 1) was 1.5 times lower than the modified mortar (1 : 1) in water absorption. 4. Compared with the ordinary mortar, the modified mortar showed 2~3 times greater chemical resistance for 5% HCl or 5% H2SO4.

It has been known that acid-resistant concretes on the liquid glass basis have high porosity (up to 18${\sim}$20%), low strength and insufficient water resistance. Therefore they can not be used as materials for load-bearing structural elements. Significant increasing of silicate matrix strength and density was carried out by incorporation of special liquid organic alkali-soluble silicate additives, which block of superficial pores and reduces concrete shrinkage deformation. It was demonstrated that introduction of tetrafurfuryloxisilane additive sharply increases strength, durability and shock resistance of silicate polymer concrete in aggressive media. This effect is attributable to hardening of contacts between silicate binder gel globes and modification of alkaline component owing to "inoculation" of the furan radical. The optimal concrete composition with the increased strength, chemical resistance in the aggressive environments, density and crack resistance was obtained.

In this study, as a measure to recycle red mud, which is a byproduct of the Bayer Process, red mud was manufactured as liquid and recycled without drying and grinding. Previous studies have shown that mechanical performance decreases when liquid red mud is applied to cement concrete. Therefore, in this study, liquid red mud was neutralized with nitric acid and applied to cement paste to examine the properties of cement paste according to the addition of red mud. As a result, the compressive strength of 10% liquid red mud decreased by 37.7% compared to Plain, and 10% liquid red mud indicates similar strength to Plain and restores the strength.
The tests of stress corrosion cracking in structural carbon steel were carried out under the conditions of acid fog and general water. As the result of measurement SCC rupture time under acid fog was observed to be much shorter than that of general water at the same stress level. Therefore, acid fog drops the SCC strength in structural carbon steel due to strong corrosion. In the SCC process by acid fog, crack initiation was caused by pit corrosion and local stress concentration, and distinctive feature of crack growth shows branching since crack grows to the corrosion direction. Moreover, corrosion products were observed by clevage corrosion on the crack surfaces.
Terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol resulting form the weight-reduction process of polyester make trouble in the operation of activated sludge process. Also, polyester weight loss wastewater shows high pH, high organic strength and wide variation of organic loading. Therefore, this study was conducted in order to improve treatment efficiency by activated sludge process with Pseudomonas sp degrading components of polyester weight loss wastewater. The CO $D_{Mn}$ and BO $S_{5}$ of the waste wastewater were 560~3,000 mg/$\ell$ and 8000~3,000 mg/$\ell$, respectively. pH was 11.8~12.3. COD removal efficiency by activated sludge-coagulation process with Pseudomonas sp was 94.1~95.8% for 35 hr of hydraulic retention time. Total organic carbon removal efficiency was 97.1%. Ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid in the wastewater were completely degraded during 32 hr of hydraulic retention time.e.

Rain samples were collected at 10 sites in the Seoul area during the period of August through November, 1985. THe concentrations of the major cations $(H^+, Ca^{++}, MG^{++}, Na^+, K^+, NH_4^+)$ and the major anions $(SO_4^=, NO_3^-, Cl^-)$ were measured to characterize the main sources of chemical ions in rainwater. Correlating concentrations of ions to pH, calculated coefficients ranged from 0.1485 to 0/4296. Sulfate shows the largest coefficient indicating that sulfate is more closely associated with hydrogen ion than other ions. This may suggest that sulfuric acid contributes more to the acidity of rainwater in Seoul. It appears that the major chemicals measured in rainwater are from the anthropogenic sources of air pollution. Predominant chemicals are acidic at the Guro-, the Sinseol-, the Yangnam-, and the Ssangmun-dong with sulfate being the most predominant. IT also indicates that alkaline substances resulting from soil and dust have a significant effect on pH values of rainwater by neutralizing actions. According to Granat-model analysis, it is estimated that the relative contributions to the rainwater acidity in Seoul are 84% from sulfuric acid, 8% from nitric acid and 8% from hydrochloric acid.

In this study, the effect of the change in the cement contents on the basic properties of the concrete and the estimation of the cement contents of hardened concretes using the hydrochloric acid melting heat. As a result of the study, as the cement contents increased, the fluidity and compressive strength increased, and there was no significant difference in the air contents and the unit volume mass. In addition, it showed a high correlation when compared with the estimated cement contents derived using the hydrochloric acid melting and the cement contents at the time of mixing. Therefore, it is considered that the hydrochloric acid melting is possible as a method of estimating the cement contents of concrete.
