Study on Chemical Removal of Nitric Oxide (NO) as a Main Cause of Fine Dust (Air Pollution) and Acid Rain

  • This study was conducted to remove $NO_x$, which is the main cause of fine dust and air pollution as well as acid rain. $NO_x$ was tested using 3% NO (diluted in He) as a simulated gas. Experiments were sequentially carried out by oxidizing NO to $NO_2$ and absorbing $NO_2$. Especially, we focused on the changes of NO oxidation according to both oxidant ($NaClO_2$) concentration change (1~10 M) and oxidant pH change (pH = 1~5) by adding HCl. In addition, we tried to suggest a method to improve $NO_2$ absorption by conducting $NO_2$ reduction reaction with reducing agent (NaOH) concentration (40~60%). It was found that NO removal efficiency increased as both concentration of oxidant and flow rate of NO gas increased, and NO decreased more effectively as the pH of hydrochloric acid added to the oxidant was lower. The $NO_2$ adsorption was also better with increasing NaOH concentration, but the NO removal efficiency was ~20% lower than that of the selective NO reduction. Indeed, this experimental method is expected to be a new method that can be applied to the capture and removal of fine dust caused by air pollution because it is a method that can easily remove NO gas by a simple device without expensive giant equipment.

전탕 시간에 따른 애엽의 성분패턴 비교연구 (The Comparative Study on Compositional Pattern Analysis of Decoction of Extracted Artemisia argyi by Different Extraction Time)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to find out the optimal extraction time for Artemisia argyi. Methods: The compositional pattern was compared with HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) and GC (Gas-Chromatography) by decocting Artemisia argyi 10, 60, 120 minutes respectively. Results: With longer extraction time, the contents of reference compounds were extracted 1.1 times more when 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid was extracted for 60 minutes than when extracted for 10 minutes in HPLC test, but the contents were reduced when extracted for 120 minutes compared to 60 minutes extraction time. 3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, jaceosidin, and eupatilin showed the largest yield rate when extracted for 10 minutes, and it decreased as time passed. The contents of chlorogenic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, jaceosidin, scoparone, and eupatilin were detected only in 10 minutes extraction but not in 60 or 120 minutes extraction according to GC test. Conclusions: The results show that extraction time could affect the physicochemical characteristic or composition of Artemisia argy extracted. Thus, short extraction time could be useful for decoction of Artemisia argyi.

Development of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry for the Determination of Essential Fatty Acids in Food Supplemental Oil Products

  • A gas chromatography/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) method was developed as a candidate reference method for the accurate determination of essential fatty acids (linoleic acid, ${\alpha}$- and ${\gamma}$-linolenic acids) in food supplemental oil products. Samples were spiked with three internal standards (stearic acid-$d_{35}$, $^{13}C_{18}$-linoleic acid, and $^{13}C_{18}$-${\alpha}$-linolenic acid). Samples were then subject to saponification, derivatization for methylation, and extraction by organic solvent. For GC/MS measurement, an Agilent HP-88 column, designed for the separation of fatty acid methyl esters, was selected after comparing with other columns as it provided better separation for target analytes. Target analytes and internal standards were detected by selected ion monitoring of molecular ions of their methyl ester forms. The GC/MS method was applied for the measurement of three botanical oils in NIST SRM 3274 (borage oil, evening primrose oil, and flax oil), and measurement results agreed with the certified values. Measurement results for target analytes which have corresponding isotope-labeled analogues as internal standard were calculated based on isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) approach, and compared with results calculated by using the other two internal standards. Results from the IDMS approach and the typical internal standard approach were in good agreement within their measurement uncertainties. It proves that the developed GC/MS method can provide similar metrological quality with IDMS methods for the measurement of fatty acids in natural oil samples if a proper fatty acid is used as an internal standard.

된장으로 부터 fibrin 용해 세균의 분리에 관한 연구 (The study on isolation of fibrinolytic bacteria from soybean paste)

  • fibrin 단백질을 분해할 수 있는 효소를 분비하는 균을 된장으로부터 분리하여 동정하였다. 된장으로부터 protein 분해능이 있는 균주를 분리하고 분리한 균주들 중에서 혈전용해능이 가장 우수한 균주인 KDO-13을 선발하였다. 이 균주는 호기성으로 포자를 형성하는 Gram(+)균 이었으며 gas chromatography에 의한 세포의 지방산 분석은 $C_{15:0}$ anteiso fatty acid가 47.7%, $C_{15:0}$ iso fatty acid가 13.5% 이었다. 이 균주는 생리, 생화학적 특성 및 세포지방산 분석을 통하여 57.7%의 similarity를 갖는 Bacillus atrophaeus로 잠정 동정되었다. Bacillus atrophaeus KDO-13의 fibrinolytic enzyme 생성을 위한 최적 배양 온도와 pH는 각각 $37^{\circ}$와 6.0 이었다.

깔짚에서 발생되는 가스와 휘발성지방산에 대한 황산알루미늄과 비교 시 혼합 홍삼박제제의 평가: 축산환경 경영관점에서 (Evaluation of Mixed Korean Red Ginseng Marc with Aluminum Sulfate on Gas Concentration and VFA in Poultry Litter in Comparison with Aluminum Sulfate: In Terms of Livestock and Environment Managements)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of mixed Korean red ginseng marc with aluminum sulfate on gas concentration and volatile fatty acid (VFA) in poultry litter during 4 weeks in terms of livestock and environment managements. A total of 240 broiler chicks were randomly allocated to four treatments in four replications and 15 birds per replicate. The four treatments was mixed to rice hull under each pen at 0, 10 g or 20 g red ginseng marc + 90g aluminum sulfate, and 100g aluminum sulfate per kg poultry litter (rice hulls). Carbon dioxide, methane, acetic acid, and propionic acids were measured weekly. The results that could be available include: First, during the experimental period, carbon dioxide emissions were not remarkably different among treatments. Second, no differences were observed among treatments in methane emissions at 2 weeks through 4 weeks, but at 1 week, the reduction in methane emissions was in following order: 100 g aluminum sulfate > 20 g red ginseng marc + 90 g aluminum sulfate > 10 g red ginseng marc + 90 g aluminum sulfate > control. Third, in spite of statistically differences, treatment with 10 g or 20 g red ginseng marc + 90g aluminum sulfate, and 100g aluminum sulfate reduced acetic acid and propionic acid as a function of time, except acetic acid in aluminum sulfate treatment at 2 and 4 weeks. In conclusion, the results indicated that like aluminum sulfate, using 10 g or 20 g red ginseng marc with aluminum sulfate was effective in decreasing methane and propionic acid released from poultry litter.

  • Eight aromatic acids in Panax ginseng were determined by GC. Ultra-1 $(25\;m{\times}0.2\;mm{\times}0.33\;{\mu}M)$ capillary column was employed with temperature programming from $150^{\circ}C$ to $240^{\circ}C$ at a rate of $3^{\circ}C/min$. The mean contents of eight aromatic acids in 8 white ginseng samples were as follows; salicylic acid: 4.30 ppm, cinnamic acid: 18.2 ppm, vanillic acid: 4.22 ppm, gentisic acid: trace, syringic acid: 6.69 ppm, p-coumaric acid: 13.3 ppm, ferulic acid : 21.9 ppm, caffeic acid: 24.3 ppm, respectively.

목초액 처리가 돈분 퇴비화 과정중 악취저감에 미치는 영향 (Reduction of the Odors during Pig Manure Composting Using of Pyroligneous Acid Liquor)

  • 본 연구는 친환경농자재로 선정된 유기성폐자 원인 목초액을 농 축산분야의 적용과 활용성 평가를 위해 돈분퇴비화 과정 중 발생되는 악취에 대한 저감효과를 조사하여 그 이용가치를 검증하고자 실시하였다. 이상의 결과에 대한 요약은 다음과 같다. 암모니아 가스의 분석결과 목초액을 처리한 PA-100과 PA-300 처리구에서 초기 암모니아가스 발생량이 관행구보다 높게 나타났으며, 목초액 처리구에서는 약 18일 이후부터는 측정되지 않았다. 반면, 관행구에서는 보다 오랫동안 나타났으며 약 25일후로 검출되지 않았다. 또한 달관적인 조사를 통하여 PA-100과 PA-300 처리구에서는 발생하는 암모니아가스 냄새의 정도가 현저히 낮았다. 이러한 결과는 목초액내에 함유된 초산성분에 의한 암모니아의 중화반응과 탄화된 목재의 특유의 향으로부터 가려지는 가리움효과(eclipsed effect)에 의한 것으로 해석된다. 휘발성 유기산의 발생량을 GC를 통해 분석한 결과 PA-100 처리구에서 가장 낮은 함량을 보였으며 휘발성 유기산 중에서 acetic acid와 propionic acid 및 butyric acid 등이 가장 많이 발생하였다. 특히, propionic acid와 butyric acid는 PA-100 > PA-300 > 관행구 순으로 퇴비화 과정중 감소효율이 높게 나타났다. 그러나 acetic acid는 관행구보다 다소 높은 경향을 보였는데 이는 목초액의 주성분인의 하나인 초산(acetic acid) 때문인 것으로 판단된다.

최소가공 Fuji사과의 포장재 및 전처리 방법에 따른 저장 중 품질변화 (Quality Changes of Fresh-cut Packaged Fuji Apples during Storage)

  • 최소가공처리를 행한 신선 사과의 저장수명을 연장시키기 위하여 사과 품종 중 Fuji사과를 이용하여 최소가공 처리를 행한 후 서로 다른 산소, 이산화탄소 및 수분 투과도를 가지는 필름으로 포장하여 저온저장 하였다. 저장중의 색도 변화, texture, pH, 산도, 가용성 고형분 함량 및 포장재 내부의 공기조성을 측정하였다. 신선절단 및 유기산 처리를 한 사과의 firmness는 저장기간 경과에 따라 증가하다가 저장 3주부터 감소하였다. 신선절단 사과의 품질에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 과육의 갈변현상은 무처리구의 경우 저장 1주일을 전후로 일어났으며 1% oxalic acid를 처리한 사과의 경우 포장 필름의 종류에 상관없이 저장 초기에는 백색도가 증가하였으나 시간경과에 따라 과육의 연화 현상과 함께 갈변이 심화되었고 특히 L340필름으로 포장한 경우 L값의 변화가 가장 심하게 일어났다. 반면 사과를 1% ascorbic acid 용액에 침지한 후 P640필름에 포장하여 저장한 구는 색도, pH, 가용성 고형분, 적정산도에서 품질 변화가 가장 작게 나타났다.

레토르트식품, 분유, 비스킷 및 피자 내에 함유되어 있는 트랜스지방산 함량 분석 (Analysis of Trans Fatty Acid Content in Retort Food, Powdered Milk, Biscuit and Pizza Products)

  • 본 연구에서는 식품 내에 존재하는 트랜스지방산 함량에 대한 기초 자료를 수집하기 위하여 서울 지역에서 수거한 레토르트식품류 2종, 분유류 6종, 비스킷류 7종 피자류 3종을 선택하여 총 4종류의 18종의 시료를 분석하였다. 레토르트식품류 2종, 분유류 6종, 비스킷류 1종은 chloroform-methanol(CM) 추출법에 의하여 조지방을 추출하였으며 비스킷류 6종, 피자류 3종은 chloroform-methanol(CM) 추출법과 acid digestion 추출법을 각각 이용하여 조지방을 추출한 후 gas chromatography(GC)에 의해 트랜스지방산 함량을 분석하였다. 레토르트식품류의 총 지방 중 트랜스지방산 함량은 1-2.8%이며 분유류의 트랜스지방산 함량은 0.4-2.4%로서 제품의 브랜드와 제조회사에 따라 차이가 많이 났다. 비스킷류의 트랜스지방산 함량은 0-2.95%로서 제품 간 가장 많은 차이를 나타내었으며 이는 첨가물의 종류에 따라 달라지는 것으로 사료된다. 피자류에서는 2.8-3.45%의 높은 트랜스지방산 함유율을 나타내었다.

  • The capacity and long life of gel electrolyte batteries is connected with gas recombination producting $PbO_2$ and Pb electrode. We prepared with sulfuric acid gel electrolyte to know gel characteristics per density to assemble valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. We studied on actions of sulphuric acid gel electrolyte by measuring electrolyte dispersion using Brewster-angle microscope (BAM), charge-discharge cycle, and electrode structure using scanning election microscope (SEM). Sulphuric acid density 1.210 showed excellent gel dispersion in sol condition, electrode condition after fifty cycles in this study.
