  • National competence is based on the quality of university education, which is determined by the competitiveness of academia, research and information, IMD reported that Singapore, #2 country in national competence index, topped in quality of university education. Meanwhile Korea's current national knowledge infrastructure project lacks comprehensive coordination at a governmental level and has been conducted in a rather sporadic manner, without any consideration on the overall analysis of knowledge information resources. Consequently, a disproportionate amount of attention was devoted to collecting general information resources, while neglecting rare, hard-to-collect sources with historic, academic, and/or cultural values. This study proposes to build an academic resource management system to fully supervise academic resources at least, among national knowledge information resources which is a national asset, and also to allocate budget and cultivate new information building projects based on overall analysis on academic resources. In other words, there is a need for a management system to implement efficient linkage, distribution and utilization of academic resources and, to that end, we need to build an academic resource management system at a national level, maximizing the benefits from the knowledge society that we live in.

  • This study developed an online learning support program to provide academic support for students on academic probation by considering the positive perception and advantages of online education and at the same time reflecting the difficulty in contacting students who have been placed on academic probation. The program consisted of topics and contents that could increase academic self-management and academic resilience of college students on academic probation, and the purpose was to verify the effectiveness of the online learning support program after operation. The research results are as follows. There was a significant difference in academic self-management, learning regulation, and positive attitude of college students on academic probation. This can be seen as the fact that college students on academic probation acquired the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for studying, and their determination to study had a positive effect on their academic resilience. The significance of this study is that it developed a program that can help improve the academic resilience of college students on academic probation and analyzed its effectiveness.

  • The study aimed to investigate the motivation and user satisfaction of medical school graduate students using specific academic information sites, and examines the effect of usage motivation factors on user satisfaction. This study was conducted from September 10, 2018 to September 21, 2018 by a large medical school graduate student in Seoul, and analyzed 135 valid responses. According to the analysis, the degree of reliability and interactivity of PubMed is higher than that of Google Scholar in medical school graduate students' use of academic information sites. It was found to have a significant effect on user satisfaction of academic information sites. In particular, convenience has the greatest influence on users' choice of academic information sites. The results of the study are of theoretical implications in that the discussion of academic information services through web sites is explained in terms of use and satisfaction in the context of medical information. On the other hand, specific research results provide practical implications for improving the services of medical-related academic search engines.

  • All academic information on the web or elsewhere has its creator, that is, a subject who has created the information. The subject can be an individual, a group, or an institution, and can be a nation depending on the nature of the relevant information. Most information is composed of a title, an author, and contents. An essay which is under the academic information category has metadata including a title, an author, keyword, abstract, data about publication, place of publication, ISSN, and the like. A patent has metadata including the title, an applicant, an inventor, an attorney, IPC, number of application, and claims of the invention. Most web-based academic information services enable users to search the information by processing the meta-information. An important element is to search information by using the author field which corresponds to a personal name. This study suggests a method of efficient indexing and using the adjacent operation result ranking algorithm to which phrase search-based boosting elements are applied, and thus improving the accuracy of the search results of personal names. It also describes a method for providing the results of searching co-authors and related researchers in searching personal names. This method can be effectively applied to providing accurate and additional search results in the academic information services.

  • With the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the number of data-centric integrated researches increases. The integrated researches make information identification and linkage more important, so it is necessary to seek a method to efficiently manage and share academic-information for supporting the researches. Therefore, this study aims to analyze identification system and linkable information types of 12 major academic search engines and bibliographic databases(ASEBDs) in Korea and abroad and to propose a method to identify and link academic-information. The analysis was conducted 2 times, and academic-information types, searchable fields, linkable information types, used identification system were investigated. As a result, the ASEBDs link directly or/and indirectly 3~4 information types based on their own identifiers with persistent identifiers. In addition, they identify academic-information semi-automatically based on machine learning methodology and collect and manage the related data. Finally, the method for academic-information linkage was proposed in terms of practice and society: linkage based on persistent identifiers and linkage based on collaborative network of institutions.

To proceed with this study, academic library usage data were collected from S university undergraduate students. Academic achievement was measured using the students' grade point average(GPA). T-test and analysis of variance were used to compare differences of means between library usage and academic achievement with the background variables. Hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to determine the association between library usage and academic achievement. As a result, a positive correlation was found between academic achievement and the use of library resources and services according to gender, year and academic subject. In addition, academic library usage had a positive significant influence on academic achievement. Students who used more library resources and facilities ultimately get better grades.

  • Researchers' performances have been evaluated by contributing to the academic journals officially, and academic journals expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively since academic societies, publishers, and universities has concentrated on publishing journals. Recently, access and usage of academic information was restricted due to commercialization strategies and sudden rising of prices, and against this situation, OA movement came out arguing that academic information should be open to everyone freely. This article studies the case of KOASAS which is based on DSpace, one of the typical institutional repositories, and intends to show up the necessity to construct repositories in institutions universities and suggest the method to make full use of repositories.
