This study aimed to assess the effects of tree manures in comparison with NPK fertilizer on growth of Acacia senegal seedlings. It was conducted in the nursery of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Khartoum, Shambat (Lat.: $15^{\circ}$ 39' 387" N and Long.: $32^{\circ}$ 30' 871" E), during August 2008 and January 2009. The growing media were prepared by mixing ground foliage of trees with sandy soil (weight/volume) as follows, Albizia lebbeck (AL): 25 g, 50 g and 75 g; Azadirachta indica (AZ): 25 g, 50 g and 75 g; Khaya senegalensis (KH): 25 g, 50 g and 75 g; NPK fertilizer: 30 g per seedling. Albizia lebbeck and Azadirachta indica manures and NPK fertilizer have stimulated the Acacia senegal seed germination percentage in comparison with the control, with respective values of 89, 82.7, 81 and 71%. Khaya senegalensis manure has suppressed the Acacia senegal seed germination percentage with a value of only 49%. Effects of treatments on the seedlings growth parameters varied in the following percentages, in comparison to the control, shoot height: AZ 62.9%, AL 46%, KH 9.9% and NPK 27.8%; root length: AZ 25.8%, AL 31.5%, KH 30.6% and NPK 4.4%; diameter: AZ 75.2%, AL 37.1%, KH 34.3% and NPK 20%; Shoot biomass: AZ 319%, AL 195.2%, KH 57.1% and NPK 42.9%; root biomass: AZ 288.9%, AL 116.7%, KH 55.6% and NPK 16.7%%;. Thus, the effectiveness of the used substrates on the growth performance of Acacia senegal seedlings occurred in the following descending order: Azadirachta indica> Albizia lebbeck>Khaya senegalensis>NPK fertilizer. These results assert clearly the ameliorative and fertilizing characteristics of tree manures that can be reliably used for raising seedlings stocks in the nurseries.

A study was carried out to evaluate the values of roughages available in Korea on feed intake and digestibility of Korean native goats and consequently to apply its results to the feeding system of Korean goats as a basic information. The results are as follows. 1. The protein contents in Alfalfa and Acacia leaf were 17.6 and 16.3% respectively 11.7 and 6.8% higher than orchardgrass and pine needle. Ether extract tom pine needle was about two times higher than other roughage sources which are 9.2%. 2. Dry matter intake per day in goats fed alfalfa, acacia leaf and orchardgrass was higher (P < 0.05) at 590.3, 543.8 and 496.58 respectively and 217.lg in pine needle. 3. Dry matter intake per basal weight (DM glkg of B$W^{0.75}$ and DM g/kg of BW%) was higher in goats fed acacia leaf at 68.5 and 3.5% respectively than any other treatments goats fed pine needle showed the lowest (P< 0.05) dry matter intake at 28.6 and 1.5% respectively. 4. Dry matter digestibility was highest (PcO.05) in alfalfa fed goats at 61.4%. Dry matter digestibilities in orchardgrass, pine needle and acacia leaf were 58.0, 46.8 and 46.6% respectively. 5. Total digestible nutrients were highest (P< 0.05) in Alfalfa fed goats at 59.5%. Total digestible nutrients in orchardgrass, pine needle and acacia leaf were 54.2, 50.7 and 47.7% respectively. 6. In conclusion, the value of orchardgrass as feed for goats was as excellent as alfalfa and although acacia leaf had a less value than alfalfa in goats, it is considered to be used as a protein supplement in diets for goats due to its high content of protein and excellent palatability. Intake of pine needle in Korean goats in this study was satisfactory and it indicates the possibility of its use as a supplement in diets for goats. However, fkther investigation will be necessary particularly on the deleterious effects of ether extracts of pine needle
Cultivation of Pholiota adiposa on sawdust media and its mixed substrates with various agricultural by-products was attempted. The composition of each substrates were compared from the viewpoint of cultivation possibilities with the production of Pholiota adiposa. Populus deltoides showed the best production of the mushroom with 795 g, followed by Robinia pseudo-acacia and Quercus acutissima. The mixed sawdust media with 70% of Robinia pseudo-acacia and 30% of Populus deltoides showed the best production of the mushroom with 265 g followed by the mixture of Robinia pseudo-acacia and Populus deltoides with 50% each with 228 g, while the addition of Quercus acutissima showed the negative effect for the production of Pholiota adiposa. Thus, Robinia pseudo-acacia was considered to be an effective amendment for the production of the mushroom. In addition, various kinds of agricultural by-products showed additive effect for the production of the mushroom, too. Therefore, we could concluded that the sawdust of Robinia pseudo-acacia and agricultural by-products can be used to cultivate Pholiota adiposa.
The constituents and proportions of non-protein free amino acids including canavanine were measured in roots and leaves of legumes, Robinia pseudo-acacia L., Wistaria floribunda L., and Canavalia lineata L. by using high performance liquid chromatography during dormant and fertilizing seasons. in all the three plant species, asparagine was the most abundant amino acid occurring 30% of total free amino acids, and canavanine was the second most abundant amino acid contributing 10% of total free amino acids throughout dormant and fertilizing seasons. In dormant season, roots contained 2 to 3 folds of free amino acids including canavanine and asparagine compared to those in fertilizing season. When proportions of asparagine and canavanine to total gree amino acids in various parts of C. lineata were examined in fertilizinng season, the level of asparagine was the highest in roots while that of canavanine was in seeds. On the basis of these results, it is assumed that canavanine appears and functions as a nitrogen-storing compound in roots and leaves throughout the whole life cycle of the investigated plants.
The curtailment of production cost is important for the mass production of biosensors. Since horseradish peroxidase, which is a key material of enzyme electrodes for hydrogen peroxide analysis is rather expensive, this has been a limiting factor for fabricating carbon paste based enzyme electrodes. In this paper, the acacia leaf tissue as a zymogen easily obtainable in our living environment was used as an alternative to horseradish peroxidase for developing a hydrogen peroxide sensor and the electrochemical properties were evaluated. Ten or more electrochemical parameters alongside the other experimental results acquired by the potentiostatic method demonstrated that our enzyme electrodes can be used for the quantitative analysis of hydrogen peroxide. This also indicates that acacia leaves can take the place of the marketed peroxidase.

Multiple regression equations (Rehman et al. 2000) have been developed to predict the salinity tolerance of Acacia seeds, expressed as the I$\sub$50/ (the concentration of NaCl required to reduce final germination to 50% of the control value in DW). Accurate predictions can be made using one or more chemical and biological seed parameters. In this study the theoretical effect of varying final germination percentage in distilled water, germination rate in distilled water. (Rate), Ca$\^$2+/ or K$\^$+/ contents and their ratios, as independent factors or related factors, on the predicted salinity tolerance (I$\sub$50/) of Acacia species was investigated. Simulation of the effects of changing final germination, rate, calcium and potassium suggest the possibility of practical application of these results to modify the salinity tolerance of seeds. The predicted I$\sub$50/ increased with increasing final germination. Similarly, the higher the rate of germination, the higher the predicted salt tolerance of Acacia species. The Ca$\^$2+/ content of seeds was found to be positively correlated with I$\sub$50/. Species with higher Ca$\^$2+/ contents had a higher I$\sub$50/. This suggests that I$\sub$50/ might be increased by increasing the Ca$\^$2+/ contents of seeds by pretreatment with calcium salts or by supplying these to the mother plants.
In order to study on the utility for feed of several leguminosae tree leaves, the leaves of Lespedeza spp., Amorpha fruticosa and Robinia pseudo acacia were collected from several places of Daejon city and Daeduck-Kun at the different growing seasons. The leaf productivities, the change of the contents of chemical components on the different growing seasons. and the palatability trial were determined. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Leaf productivities of Amorpha fruticosa and Robinia pseudo acacia were higher than that of Lespedeza spp., and the highest production of Amorpha' fruticosa was showed in august and that of Robinia pseudo acacia was showed in september. 2. Crude protein contents of Lespedeza spp., Amorpha fruticosa and Robinia pseudo acacia were determined to 12.6, 18.63 and 15.87% respectively and the protein contents of them showed gradual decrease as growing. 3. Crude fat contents of Lespedeza spp., Amorpha fruticosa and Robinia pseudo acacia were determined to 9.00, 5.85 and 4.70% respectively, and they displayed gradual increase as growing, 4. Crude fiber contents of Lespedeza spp., Amorpha fruticosa and Robinia pseudo acacia were determined to 14.97, 12.61 and 9.80% respectively, and they showed gradual increase as growing. 5. The content of nitrogen free extract of Robinia pseudo acacia showed higher than those of Lespedeza spp. and Amorpha fruticosa, and all of them displayed gradual decrease as growing. 6. Crude ash contents of Lespedeza spp., Amorpha fruticosa and Robinia pseudo acacia determined to 4.40, 4.98 and 5.27% respectively, and variable changes were appeared as growing. 7. The results of palatability trial for three leaves showed superior to the order of Lespedeza spp., Robinia pseudo acacia and Amorpha fruticosa, and the dried leaves were more favorable than green leaves.
The activity of symbiotic -fixation and environmental factors of Robinia pseudo-acacia L., bearing root nodules, were quantitatively analyzed during the growing period. Among changes of total nitrogen and phosphorus contents of each organ, leaves showed prominent decreases from the highest quantity of the early growing period to the lowest of the late period. The rhizosphere showed acidic pH and low level of nitrogen, phosphorus and organic matter contents during the growing period. -fixation activity of nodules initiated from April and showed the maximum value of 190 $\mu$/g DW/hr in late June and than decreased to 50$\mu$M/g DW/hr during the rainy and dry season. Another peak of the activity attained 246$\mu$M/g DW/hr in the late growing stage of September. The maximum value of nitrogen fixation activity was observed at the conditions of pH7, $25\{\circ}C$ of temperature and 20 Kpa of oxygen partial pressure.
Physical properties of oral adhesive tablets prepared with four kinds of gums for topical or systemic drug delivery were investigated. Oral adhesive tablets containing 5mg of brilliant blue(BB) were prepared from direct compression. Viscosity of 2% gum solutions, water absorption, fracture resistance, stickiness of tablets, and dissolution of BB in pH 6.8 dissolution medium were tested. Acacia showed good stickiness and fracture resistance, and tragacanth showed good retarding effect on the release of BB from tablets. Therefore, tablets with varing ratios of acacia and tragacanth were prepared and their physical properties were examined. In conclusion, it was possible to obtain some adequate properties by compounding acacia and tragacanth.
