The cement industry is a large amount of carbon dioxide emission industry, and research and development on non-cement composition is underway at the time when the absolute reduction of cement use is urgently needed. In addition, limestone fine powder is a by-product and is required to be recycled in terms of resource circulation. The compressive strength of the lime cement powder added noncement composition showed that the compressive strength increased as the limestone powder was added. It is believed that limestone fine powder played a role of stimulant such as alkali activator in non-cement composition.
This paper proposes a hybrid successive over-relaxation iterative method for the numerical solution of a nonlinear diffusion in a one-dimensional porous medium. The considered mathematical model is discretized using a computational complexity reduction scheme called half-sweep finite differences. The local truncation error and the analysis of the stability of the scheme are discussed. The proposed iterative method, which uses explicit group technique and modified successive over-relaxation, is formulated systematically. This method improves the efficiency of obtaining the solution in terms of total iterations and program elapsed time. The accuracy of the proposed method, which is measured using the magnitude of absolute errors, is promising. Numerical convergence tests of the proposed method are also provided. Some numerical experiments are delivered using initial-boundary value problems to show the superiority of the proposed method against some existing numerical methods.

In this paper, we deal with a real time implementation of the integrated image-based navigation parameter extraction system using the TMS320C80 MVP(multimedia video processor). Our system consists of relative position estimation and absolute position compensation, which is further divided into high-resolution aerial image matching, DEM(Digital elevation model) matching, and IRS (Indian remote sensing) satellite image matching. Those algorithms are implemented in real time using the MVP. To achieve a real-time operation, an attempt is made to partition the aerial image and process the partitioned images in parallel using the four parallel processors in the MVP. We also examine the performance of the implemented integrated system in terms of the estimation accuracy, confirming a proper operation of the our system.
This study analyzed the hydrodynamic flow behavior on a standard ogee spillway with pier by using FLOW-3D. The simulation results were compared with the experiment data of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Waterways Experiment Station (WES) and also compared with 2-dimensional simulation results on a spillway without pier. In particular, the characteristics of the distribution of the overflow nappe and pressure in a spillway with pier were investigated in detail. As for the results of the simulation on the flow rate, overflow nappe, and pressure, although there were a few differences in the experiment results of WES, they were identical in most cases in terms of trend. Summarizing the major flow behavior in a standard ogee spillway with pier, first, the water stage at the center line of the bay was higher than that at the side of the bay along the pier. Second, when the water head was larger than the design head of the spillway, at the upstream area of the weir crest, the absolute magnitude of negative pressure occurred highest at the side of the bay along the pier. On the other hand, at the downstream area of the weir crest, the absolute magnitude of negative pressure occurred highest at the centerline of the bay.
Just as the front gate is located at the meeting point between the house and the street, the Subject and the Other face each other the same way. This study examines the relationship between House(subject) and Stree (other) at the boundary of the Front Gate-Face. Pursuing the aspects of the changing Front Gate-Face accordingly to the attitude of the Subject facing the Other, this study tries to analyze the possibilities and significance of the hospitality Front Gate-Face with the ethical point of view of Levinas. As architectural instance, results of examining the Front Gate-Face of traditional houses in Korea, China and Japan are as follows. Front Gate-Face of China is characterized by self-centered introversion to interact with the external world (the other). Front Gate-Face of Japan is characterized by a humble submission to the group. Front Gate-Face of Korea shows however more flexible relationship orientations in terms of hospitality, compared to Japan or China. When looking through hospitality factors, accordingly to the above mentioned Korean hospitality characteristics, the possibilities seem not be exclusively bordered inside the conceptual category perimeter suggested by Levinas' concept of hospitality. It is almost impossible for the nowadays ever-strong privacy culture to not allow room for the architectural structure of an absolute hospitality toward others. However, this impossibility not being absolute, still yields a space for a significant possibility to explore.
No-Reference video-quality assessments are divided into two kinds of metrics based on decoding pixel domain or the bitstream one. Traditional full-/reduced- reference methods have difficulty to be deployed as realtime video transmission because it has problems of additional data, complexity, and assessment accuracy. This paper presents simple and highly accurate no-reference video-quality assessment in realtime video transmission. Our proposed method uses quantization parameter, motion vector, and information of transmission error. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, we perform subjective test of video quality with the ITU-T P.910 Absolute Category Rating(ACR) method and compare our proposed algorithm with the subjective quality assessment method. Experimental results show the proposed quality metric has a high correlation (85%) in terms of subjective quality assessment.

In this paper, we propose a quadratic (nonlinear) regression model that forecasts daily demands of electric power in summer. For cost-effective production (and/or procurement) of electric power, forecasting demands of electric power with accuracy is important, especially in summer when temperature is high. In the literature, temperature and daily demands of preceding days are typically employed to construct forecasting models. While, we consider another factor, day of the week, together with temperature and daily demands of preceding days. For validating the proposed model, we demonstrate the forecasting accuracy in terms of MAPE(Mean Absolute Percentage Error) and MPE(Maximum Percentage Error) using field data from KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) in comparison with two forecasting models in the literature. When compared with the two benchmarks, the proposed forecasting model performs far better providing MAPE and MPE not exceeding 3.08% and 8.99%, respectively, in summer from 2005 to 2009.

This study is related to the surface subsidence due to the collapse of a underground void during earthquakes. The amount of the settlement due to the collapse of a underground void will depend on the depth of the void, the initial condition of unit weight of sand, the size and type of foundation, the strength of earthquake, the size of a void, etc. The purpose of the paper is to estimate the amount of the subsidence, analyse the factors affecting the subsidence, and develop a program determining the probability of the damages to structures in terms of absolute and differential settlement and rotational settlement. On the base of the results obtained in this study, when the depth of a void is constant and the width of the void increases, the change of the subsidence factor due to the angle of internal friction and the actual effective factor of the void become smaller than that due to the unit weight of sand deposits. In the same condition, the probabilities of damages due to the absolute and differential settlement increase, and those due to the rotational settlement decrease.

This paper describes a string resonator that is used for the interrogation system of a Fiber Bragg Grating(FBG) strain sensor. The strain on the fiber piece is calculated from the measured frequency based on that the natural frequency of a string is a function of the applied absolute strain. Existing research considered a fiber as a string, but a fiber is not a string in the strict sense due to its bending stiffness, thus the fiber should be modeled as a beam accompanied with an axial force. In the vibration modeling, the relationship between the strain and the natural frequency is derived, and then the resonance condition is described in terms of both the phase and the mode shape for sustaining resonant motion. Several experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed model of the fiber. The performance of the string resonator is analyzed by measuring the frequency change according to the applied strains in the dynamic range of 1100$\mu\varepsilon$ referred to the displacement from capacitance sensor. From the experimental results, the implemented string resonator provides the accuracy of $\pm$3$\mu\varepsilon$, the quasi-static resolution of ~0.1$\mu\varepsilon$(rms) which amount to be $\pm$0.17$\mu\textrm{m}$ and ~6nm respectively, in case of fiber length of 56mm. For a dynamic strain, it can provide the accuracy of ~3$\mu\varepsilon$ until the frequency comes to 8Hz. As a consequence, the string resonator proposed for FBG sensor provides the high accuracy and the high resolution in strain measurement, and also it is expecting to be used, for the application, to not only strain but also displacement measuring device.

To reduce the flood risk caused by unexpected heavy rainfall, many prediction methods for flood have been developed. A major constituent of flood prediction is an accurate rainfall estimation which is an input of hydrologic models. In this study, a regional-scale weather model which can provide relatively longer lead time for flood mitigation compared to the Nowcasting based on radar system will be introduced and applied to the Chongmi river basin located in central part of South Korea. The duration of application of a regional weather model is from July 11 to July 23 in 2006. The estimated rainfall amounts were compared with observations from rain gauges (Sangkeuk, Samjook, and Sulsung). For this rainfall event at Chongmi river basin, Thomson and Kain-Frisch Schemes for microphysics and cumulus parameterization, respectively, were selected as optimal physical conditions to present rainfall fall amount in terms of Mean Absolute Relative Errors (MARE>0.45).
