Materials included in this study were several dental stones and newly developed dental stone; 2 type III. 6 type IV (including newly developed dental stone). 1 type V Ten specimens for each material, total ninety specimens were made. Each specimen was subjected to 50 complete cycle abrasion under constant load 0.42N at speed or 6mm per sec. The depth after abrasion test was measured for each specimen. Surface roughness before and after abrasion test was compared. The results were as follows ; 1. The resin containing die materials such as Tuff Rock and Resin Rock had superior abrasion resistance. 2. Type IV, V dental stone exhibited greater abrasion resistance than Type III dental stone. 3. The results or the surface roughness showed similar pattern with the abrasion resistance.
Los Angeles abrasion loss test has usally been applied to the quarry for the purpose of aggregate hardness estimation. 324 blocks from 25 sites of Kyeongsang basin samples of sedimentary rock were examined and tested in laboratary. This paper found that L. A. abrasion loss test is a good method to estimate engineering index such as uniaxial compressive strength, elastic modulus, indirect tensile strength, point load strength index, Schmidt hammer rebound value of sedimentary rocks with high correlation factor. Engineers will prefer L. A. abrasion loss test to the other one for design and construction as this method is quick and easy.
Statement of the problem. The fracture of acrylic resin dentures remains an unsolved problem. Therefore, many investigations have been performed and various approaches to strengthening acrylic resin, for example, the reinforcement of heat-cured acrylic resin using glass fibers, have been suggested over the years. But problems such as poor workability, rough surface, poor adhesion of glass fiber resin complex are not solved yet. Purpose. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of short glass fibers on the transverse strength of heat-polymerized denture base acrylic resin and roughness of resin complex after abrasion test. Material and methods. To avoid fiber bunching and achieve even fiber distribution, glass fiber bundles were mixed with acrylic resin powder in conventional mixer with a non-cutting blade, to produce the glass fiber($10{\mu}m$ diameter, 3mm length, silane treated) resin composite. Glass fibers were incorporated at 0%, 3%, 6% and 9% by weight. Transverse strength were measured. After abrasion test, surface roughness was evaluated and scanning electron microscope view was taken for clinical application. Results. 1. 6% and 9% incorporation of 3mm glass fibers in the acrylic resin enhanced the transverse strength of the test specimens(p<0.05). 2. Before abrasion test, incorporation of 0%, 3%, 9% glass fiber in the resin showed no dirrerence in roughness statisticaly(p>0.05). 3. After abrasion test, incorporation of 0%, 3%, 6% glass fiber in the resin showed same surface roughness value statistically(p>0.05). 4. In SEM, surface roughness increased as the percentage of the fibers increased. 5. In the areas where glass fiber bunchings are formated, a remarkably high roughness was noticed. Conclusion. 6% and 9% addition of silane-treated short glass fibers into denture base acrylic resin increased transverse strength significantly. Before and after abrasion test, incorporation of 0%, 3%, 6% glass fiber in the resin showed same surface roughness value statistically.
The abrasion behaviors of NR/BR blend vulcanizates were investigated using NR/BR = 100/0, 80/20, and 60/40 compounds. The abrasion test was performed using a laboratory abrasion tester (LAT) at slip angles of 1° and 7°. The size distributions of the wear particles and the abrasion rates were examined according to the rubber compositions and slip angles. The most abundant wear particles at the slip angle of 1° were sizes above 1,000 ㎛, irrespective of the rubber composition. The most abundant wear particles at 7° slip angle had sizes in the range of 212-500 ㎛, except for the NR = 100 sample. The wear particle size distribution shifted to a smaller size as the slip angle and BR content increased. The abrasion rate at 7° was much larger than that at 1° slip angle. Furthermore, the abrasion rate was notably increased by adding BR to NR.

Abrasion in fretting wear mechanism is studied experimentally with the specimens of two different shapes of spacer grid spring and fuel tubes of a nuclear fuel. Reciprocating sliding wear test has been carried out in the environment of air and water at room temperature. Especially, third body abrasion is referred to for explaining the wear region expansion found during the slip displacement increase with constant normal contact farce. It is found that the expansion behaviour depends on the contact shape. The small clearance between the tube and spring seems to be the preferable region of the wear particle accumulation, which causes third body abrasion of the non-contact area. Even in water environment the third body abrasion occurs apparently. Since the abrasion on the clearance contributes wear volume, the influence of the contact shape on the severity of third body abrasion should be considered to improve the grid spring design in the point of restraining wear damage of a nuclear fuel.

In this study, four kinds of specimens of PE(polyethylene)-based insulating materials were prepared for selecting the optimum insulation materials in a wet environment. The specimens were tested by various methods, the anti tracking test, the transmittance test in the water vapor transmittance(WVT) and the abrasion resistive test, etc. The HDPE(high-density polyethylene) specimen was showed excellent property in the tracking resistance test and the lowest transmittance in water vapor transmittance test. In the abrasion resistive test, the LLDPE(linear low-density polyethylene) and MDPE(medium-density Polyethylene) were showed excellent mechanical properties. The value of cut-through resistance for MDPE and HDPE were superior to that for LLDPE and LDPE(low-density polyethylene).

In the wheel tracking test to evaluate abrasion resistance for concrete surface coating materials applied parking lot, weight of the wheel, test temperature, scattered sand amount, wheel speed, etc. various test condition is used for reliable evaluating the abrasion resistance performance of surface coating materials and the results depends on the test condition. In this paper, we carried experimental study as following on abrasion resistance with 2kinds of different environmental conditions. - Commons : real car tire with 300kg of load, 5km/h of speed, 80,000 cycle. - Control A : no other deterioration condition - Control B : scattering 1.0g of sand per every 30rounds from 1m height.
The effect of volume fraction of Cr carbide phase (Cr CVF) on the low stress abrasion resistance in the chromium-carbide-type high Cr white iron hardfacing weld deposits has been investigated. In order to examine Cr CVF, a series of alloys with varying Cr CVF by changing chromium and carbon contents and the ratio of Cr/C were employed. The alloys were deposited once or twice on a mild steel plate using the self-shielding flux cored arc welding process. The low stress abrasion resistance of the alloys against sands was measured by the Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Test (RWAT). It was shown that hardness and abrasion resistance increased with increasing Cr CVF within the whole test range (Cr CVF : 0.23-0.64). Both primary Cr carbide and eutectic Cr carbide were particularly effective in resisting wear due to their high hardness.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of repeated surface treatments on wettability and surface roughness for zirconia surface and bond strength of zirconia-based ceramics to resin cement. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Seventy blocks (10 × 10 × 3 mm) of zirconia-based ceramics were fabricated and divided into two groups according to the surface treatments: (A) 110 ㎛ Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion and (R) 110 ㎛ silica modified Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion. At stage 2, each group was subdivided into 5 groups according to the surface retreatments: (a) 110 ㎛ Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion, (r) 110 ㎛ silica modified Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion, (D) diamond bur, (Da) diamond bur + 110 ㎛ Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion, and (Dr) diamond bur + 110 ㎛ silica modified Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion. Cylinders of self-adhesive resin cement were cemented onto each treated ceramic surface and subjected to micro-shear bond strength test. Additional specimens were prepared for roughness and wettability analyses. The data were subjected to t-test and One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test (α=.05). RESULTS. At stage 1, group R presented higher bond strength values than group A (P=.000). There was a statistically significant increase of bond strength at stage 2 for group A (P=.003). The diamond bur influenced the surface roughness, increasing the values (P=.023). Group R provided better wettability. Regardless of the applied surface treatment, most of failures were adhesive. CONCLUSION. The combination of application and reapplication of Rocatec Plus showed the best results of bond strength. Surface retreatment and recementation might be an indicated clinical strategy.

Feasibility of using PE sheet laminated CSP(Corrugated steel pipe) to sewers were tested via corrosion and abrasion tests for PE sheet laminated CSP; 1) corrosion test for PE film and PE coated plate, 2) corrosion test for joint of PE sheet laminated CSP, 3) corrosion test for outside of PE sheet laminated CSP, and 4) abrasion test for inside of PE sheet laminated CSP. The results for the corrosion and abrasion tests are as follows. 1. Results for corrosion tests on PE films and zinc coated steel plates that were coated with PE films show that the surfaces of both PE were not changed compared to those of original PE samples. Furthermore, PE films maintained strong adhesion on the steel plates even though they were exposed to sewage and seawater provided cutting planes of the steel plates were treated with molding. But, results for corrosion tests on the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting planes of the steel plates were treated without molding show that steel plates have been corroded if they were exposed to sewage and seawater. 2. Results for corrosion tests on joints of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel using sewage show that gathering rust was observed at cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel after 180 days, but PE film was not flaked off. However, PE film at cutting plane was flaked off when PE sheet laminated corrugated steel was exposed to seawater. Furthermore, flaking process was severely progressed at lockseam points of which the surfaces were not smooth. 3. Results for laying PE sheet laminated corrugated steel under the ground show that the surface of untouched PE film was almost identical to that of original PE film. However, the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel have flaked off. 4. As a result of abrasion tests conducted with PE sheet laminated corrugated steel and sand, brilliance and thickness of PE was not greatly changed under the severe abrasion conditions. Therefore, the durability of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel for abrasion was determined to be good.
