A Study of a New Meaning of Currere from a Perspective of the Value of Play in Educational Activities (교육활동의 놀이적 가치 분석을 통한 교육과정의 새로운 의미 탐색)

  • This study attempts to explore the possibility of finding a new meaning of currere through an analysis of the value of play in educational activities. It does three different kinds of works for the purpose. First, it tried to clarify the value of play by analyzing the texts written by Kant, Gadamer, and Huizinga, who had approached a play from philosophical and esthetical perspectives. Second, it analyzed curricular theories established by such scholars as Tyler, Peters, and Dewey in order to clarify the meaning of educational values presupposed by those curricular theories. Third, it examined a possibility of finding a new meaning of currere by emphasizing the value of play in educational activities.Through the study, a researcher finds that the value of play lies in the fun the player experienced while playing and that educational value can be defined in the form of the value of play in an educational setting. If the value of play in education is paid enough attention, currere can carry a new meaning. Currere meant traditionally a course horses should follow, which represents a very conservative view of education whereas currere can now mean a trace in which students are learning for the sake of having a fun. Students are encouraged to study for the sake of having a fun.

A Study on DIY in Contemporary Fashion Industry (현대 패션 산업에 나타난 DIY(Do it yourself) 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to figure out the meaning and value of DIY shown in the fashion industry today, to analyze the types and characteristics of DIY applied to the products of domestic and global fashion brands, and to provide implications for brand marketing strategies. This study was based on qualitative research which was media contents analysis and brand case study on fashion DIY. The results were as follows: First, the concept of DIY involved the Semi-DIY way that meant individuals participated in not every step of design and making process but a part of them such as design process. Also, it was means for customization. Second, the value of DIY consisted of individual value, experiential value, enjoyable value, self-actualizaion value, social value, economic value and ethical value. Third, fashion DIY was classified into seven types: DIY choosing and assembling design components of a product, DIY modifying a design with trimming, DIY making a product by using DIY Kits, DIY modifying a design after making a product by using DIY Kits, DIY choosing design components, DIY designing, and DIY all making and designing. DIY could be applied as a key marketing strategy for mass customization to meet the value of individual consumer.

  • 1. A-value in the soils studied in this experiment were found to be about 40-50kg/10a (as $P_2O_5$) 2. Percentage of utilized phosphorus in Soybeans was 10%. 3. The utilization and A-value of phosphorus were very different among the varieties of soybean plants, and the range was about 30%. 4. A/M-value (A means maximum value of total amount of available phosphorus and M means minimum value of absorbed phosphorus by plants from soils) indicated the critical range of available phosphorus to the crops.

  • Best value in value engineering has relation to cost and performance. But a severe problem in VE study of a project is to reduce value due to loss of performance, caused by focusing on cost reduction. Also a lack of understanding performance concept, no trial VE workshop as well as cost saving-based policy have not satisfied customer needs. A efficient and practical methodology for accomplishing best value in construction projects is proposed. This study developed a more objective approach for performance measurement approach of mega projects and suggested a systematic process of performance quantitative analysis verifying value improvement. The proposed performance measurement method would be very useful for better communication and consensus between stakeholders and VE team especially through value engineering.

Values and Pro-Environmental Behaviors of Homemakers (주부의 가치와 친환경적 행동)

  • Recently, much of attention has been given to the role of values in pro-environmental behaviors. The reasons are that most of environmental pollution comes from the home-living and polluting behavior is motivated by the undesirable value pursuing self-interests. This study is designed to investigate the effect of values on environmental behaviors. The results of this study are as following: Homemakers' value structure had 'self-transcendence·conservation' value, 'self-enhancement·conservation' value and 'openness-to-change' value as value factors. And the homemakers thought of self-transcendence·conservation value as "most important" and self-enhancement·conservation value as "not important". Consequently, homemakers had a tendency to do more pro-environmental behaviors when they perceived self-transcendence·conservation value as "more important value", while they did less when they regarded self-enhancement·conservation value as "more important". Therefor self-transcendence·whereas self-enhancement·conservation value is a negative predictor. Especially, self-transcendence·conservation value had more influence on pro-environmental behaviors than self-enhancement·conservation value.

Major Predictors of User's Continuance Intention to Provide information: In the Context of Online Community and Social Media

  • This study investigates how anticipated value(attainment value, intrinsic value, utility value, and reward value) and self-efficacy in providing information have an influence on continuance intention to provide information in the context of online community or social media. We propose a conceptual model for examining the framework for the effect of anticipated value on attitude toward providing information, and the effect of attitude toward providing information and self-efficacy in providing information on continuance intention to provide information. Proposed research model is empirically assessed using the survey data obtained from 221 respondents in Korea. Results show that attainment value and intrinsic value have a significant impact on attitude toward providing information, whereas utility value and reward value are found to be insignificant. In addition, attitude toward providing information and self-efficacy in providing information are positively and significantly related to continuance intention to provide information.

  • Companies must capture value for sustainable growth. Capturing value is a critical task for companies, particularly when operating own businesses and organizations or starting new business. The business strategy of many companies focuses on capturing the maximum value from customers and other stakeholders. Even though a wide range of studies on value creation and appropriation has been conducted in the strategic management field, most of studies are still conceptual and theoretical. Thus more empirical studies are required to suggest future-oriented value strategy. This study reveals the value creation and appropriation elements in the aviation industry of Korea. The purpose of this study is to understand the trend of value creation and appropriation in the industry. In addition, the relationship between the elements and firm's performance are tested. The firm's performance is defined by that past and future point of views. The sample were collected from Korean Air and Asiana Air. The empirical test shows that the elements of value creation-appropriation have significant impact on firm's performance. Further, the element of value appropriation to customer has a positive impact both on firm's past and future performance. Our results show that investors acknowledge a value-based strategy as a sign of stock valuation. The results of this test correspond with the earlier one, showing that maximizing customers value rather than shareholder value does deliver impressive returns. The finding suggest that companies need to change their strategy to efficiently manage performance. With the test results, we propose a value-based strategy to maximize firm's future financial and stock performance.

Assessment of Biochemical Profiles in Premenopausal and Postmenopausal Women with Breast Cancer

  • Objective: The study was conducted to assess biochemical profiles in premenopausal and postmenopausal women having breast cancer. Materials and Methods: A hospital based case control study was carried out at Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH), Pokhara, Nepal. The analysed variables were age, metabolic profile including total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C, blood sugar, insulin concentration, C-peptide, HbA1c and selenium. Descriptive statistics and testing of hypothesis were used for the analysis using EPI INFO and SPSS 16 software. Results: In premenopausal women, significant differences were noted for total cholesterol (P value <0.001), triglycerides (P value 0.002), HbA1c level (P value <0.001), insulin concentration (P value 0.030), C-peptide concentration (P value 0.001), and selenium (P value <0.001) between cases and controls. Insignificant results were found for HDL-C (P value 0.749), LDL-C (P value 0.933), blood sugar (P value 0.59) and BMI (P value 0.746). Similarly, significant difference in total cholesterol (P value <0.001), triglycerides (P value 0.001), LDL-C (P value <0.001), HDL-C (P value 0.025), blood sugar (P value <0.001), insulin concentration (P value <0.001), c-peptide concentration (P value <0.001), HbA1c level (P value <0.001) and selenium (P value <0.001) were observed for postmenopausal patients and controls. Conclusions: Assessing metabolic changes and their management may be important for control of breast cancer and increased survival.

A CLV (Customer Lifetime Value) model in the wireless telecommunication industry

  • Since the early 1980s, the concept of relationship management in marketing area has gained its importance. Acquiring and retaining the most profitable customers are serious concerns of a company to perform more targeted marketing campaigns. For effective CRM (Customer Relationship Management), it is important to gather information on customer value. Many researches have been performed to calculate customer value based on CLV (Customer Lifetime Value). It, however, has some limitations. It is difficult to consider the churn of customers, because the previous prediction models have focused mainly on expected future cash flow derived from customers'past profit contribution. In this paper we suggest a CLV model considering past profit contribution, potential benefit, and churn probability of a customer. We also cover a framework for analyzing customer value and segmenting customers based on their value. Customer value is classified into three categories: current value, potential value and customer loyalty. Customers are segmented according to the three categories of customer value. A case study on calculating customer value of a wireless communication company will be illustrated.

Structural Relationships between Ecotourism Village Visitors' Motivation, Value, Satisfaction, and Loyalty (생태체험마을 방문객의 방문 동기, 지각된 가치, 만족, 충성도의 구조관계 분석)

  • This study examines the structural relationships between ecotourism village visitors' motivation, value, satisfaction, and loyalty. A self-administered survey was conducted based on 254 visitors to six ecotourism villages. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, there were four underlying dimensions of motivation (relaxation, adventure, nature experience, and learning) and on underlying dimension of value (tourism). According to structural equation modeling, relaxation had a positive effect on economic value, and relaxation and learning had positive effects of functional value. Relaxation had a positive effect on social value. Economic, emotional, and social value had positive effects on ecotourism village visitors' satisfaction, and economic value had the greatest effect on satisfaction. Satisfaction had a positive effect on destination loyalty. The results imply that economic, emotional, and social value played important mediating roles in the relationship between motivation and satisfaction.
