  • As we are facing the shortage of oil energy, studies on renewable energy, wind energy research has been naturally getting attention. Among wind energies, ocean wind energy is relatively abundant compared to land wind energy and therefore, is getting much attention in terms of its efficiency. However, the problem is the cost. Generally, the cost ratio of the supporting structure is over 25% of the total installation cost of a offshore wind turbine system. Thus, it is very important to reduce the total installation cost of the offshore wind turbine and develop accurate analysis methodology for various offshore wind turbine foundations. In this study, nonlinear structure-soil interaction analyses have been proposed and conducted for the typical suction bucket model of an offshore wind turbine foundation, and the results were compared with experimental test data for numerical validations.

  • Recently, as the building construction works have been activated, the environment in which the excavation work is proceeding in parallel with the existing structure and the adjacent excavation work is increasing. However, there is not a lot of research on this. In this study, numerical analysis was carried out for interaction analysis between former excavation construction and follow-up excavation on two excavation retaining structures in parallel with excavation. As a result of numerical analysis, if the supporting load of strut is not considered, it was analyzed that the displacement distribution in the structure can be underestimated and acting stress of strut is overestimated. It was analyzed that the support stress causes by the former excavation should be considered in order to simulate the actual behavior characteristic.

  • PXLM(Phosphor based x-ray light modulator) has a combined structure by phosphor, photoconductor, and liquid crystal and it can realize x-ray image of high resolution in clinical diagnosis area. In this study, we fabricated a photoconductor and investigated electrical and optical properties to confirm application possibility of radiator detector of PXLM structure. As photoconductor, amorphous selenium(a-Se), which is used most in DR(Digital radiography) of direct conversion method, was used and for formation of thin film, it was formed as $20{\mu}m-thick$ by using thermal vacuum evaporation system. For a produced a-Se film, through XRD(X-ray diffraction) and SEM(Scanning electron microscope), we investigated that amorphous structure was uniformly established and through optical measurement, for visible light of 40 $0\sim630nm$, it had absorption efficiency of 95 % and more. After fabricated a-Se film on the top of ITP substrate, hybrid structure was manufactured through forming $Gd_2O_3:Eu$ phosphor of $270{\mu}m-thick$ on the bottom of the substrate. As the result to confirm electrical property of the manufactured hybrid structure, in the case of appling $10V/{\mu}m$, leakage current of $2.5nA/cm^2$ and x-ray sensitivity of $7.31nC/cm^2/mR$ were investigated. Finally, we manufactured PXLM structure combined with hybrid structure and liquid crystal cell of TN(Twisted nematic) mode and then, investigated T-V(Transmission vs. voltage) curve of external light source for induced x-ray energy. PXLM structure showed a similar optical response with T-V curve that common TN mode liquid crystal cell showed according to electric field increase and in appling $50\sim100V$, it showed linear transmission efficiency of $12\sim18%$. This result suggested an application possibility of PXLM structure as radiation detector.

  • Fabrication of large scaled mirror for the telescope application is the most challenging technology in recent year. Sophisticate technologies and know-how in fabrication and measurement are required to overcome the technological obstacles. KRISS(Korea Research Institute for Standards and Science) is now developing a large scaled mirror fabrication facility and KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) is supporting the development. High precision interferometric test is required during the grinding and polishing of mirror to identify the surface profile precisely. The required fabrication accuracy of the mirror surface profile is $\lambda$/50 ms($\sim$10 nm for visible wave length). Thus the measurement accuracy should be far less than 10 m. To get this requirement, it is necessary to provide vibration free environment for the interferometer system and mirror under test. Thus the vibration responses on the mirror supporting table due to external vibration should be minimized by using a special isolation system. And the responses on the top of the tower, which hold the interferometer during test, should be minimized simultaneously. In this paper, we propose the concept design of vibration suppression system for the KRISS mirror fabrication facility.

  • UPnP Bridge supporting diverse network interface has to meet standard requirements in order to be connected with legacy devices. It is able to provide or bridge a service description and device description according to a specification because IEEE1394 and USB have this standard requirements. But it is difficult to know whether it RS232C supports only serial communication and packet transfer. It need a document for the standard definition of communication protocol on UPnP device having such interface. By doing so, this document can understand device and packet type. This paper defines MFD(Message Field Description) and makes UPnP message converter. So it will be base to standardize supporting variable legacy device.

  • This paper presents a hierarchical structuring method for the multidimensional type inheritance indices (MD-TIXs) that support the processing of XML queries in XML databases. MD-TIX uses a multidimensional index structure for efficiently supporting ancestor-descendant explorations that involve both nested element and type inheritance hierarchies. However, In the case of a long Xpath, the building and maintenance of MD-TIX are very difficult because of index entry construction problem. So, we propose a type inheritance index hierarchy method for solving this difficulty. We first construct base indices that support direct relationship explorations between adjacent two types on a given Xpath, and then, based on these base indices, we construct hierarchically the derived indices that support indirect relationship explorations between any two types of Xpath until constructing one target index for supporting the full Xpath. And we also present an algorithm that efficiently constructs a partial index hierarchy for supporting given a set of sub-pathes explorations.

  • In this paper, we study the structure of the Daegyupyo (大圭表, Large Gnomon) of the early Joseon dynasty. A Gyupyo (圭表, Gnomon that is Guibiao as pronounced in Chinese) is composed of a Pyo (表, Biao as pronounced in Chinese) making a shadow and a Gyu (圭, Gui as pronounced in Chinese) measuring its length. It is known that the Daegyupyo with the 40-feet height was constructed between the sixteenth to seventeenth year of the King Sejong reign (1444 - 1445) on the basis of the record of Yuanshi (元史, the History of the Yuan Dynasty). By analyzing historical documents such as Joseonwangjosillok (朝鮮王朝實錄, the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty), Yuanshi, and Jegaryeoksangjip (諸家曆象集, a work written by Sunji Lee), we found a possibility that the Ji (池, a pond) on the Gyu was located in the north side of the Pyo. This structure is different from that in previous studies, but is in a good agreement with that of the 40-feet Guibiao remaining in Dengfeng (登封) of China. Regarding to the Hoengyang (橫梁, cross-bar), we suggest that it was set up by double 5-feet supporting arms apart from the north tip of the Pyo in the radial direction. The 3:4:5 ratio in a rectangular triangle was used to place the Heongyang on the top of the Pyo at a distance of 4-feet (3-feet) in the vertical (horizontal) direction. We also discuss the structural problem when the Hoengyang is positioned apart from the top of the Pyo by supporting arms. In conclusion, we think that this study should be useful in restoring the Daegyupyo of the Joseon dynasty.

  • Recently, mechanical systems such as a high-speed vehicles and railway trains moving on flexible beam structures have become a very important issue to consider. Using the general approach proposed in the first part of this paper, it is possible to predict motion of the constrained mechanical system and the elastic structure, with various kinds of foundation supporting conditions. Combined differential-algebraic equation of motion derived from both multibody dynamics theory and finite element method can be analyzed numerically using a generalized coordinate partitioning algorithm. To verify the validity of this approach, results from the simply supported elastic beam subjected to a moving load are compared with the exact solution from a reference. Finally, parametric study is conducted for a moving vehicle model on a simply supported 3-span bridge.

  • The electrooxidation of methanol was studied using carbon-supported PtRu(1:1) alloy nanoparticles In sulfuric acid solution for application to a direct methanol fuel cell. The GNF-supported catalyst showed excellent catalytic activities compared to those of Vulcan XC-72. The structure and electrocatalytic activity of carbon-supported electrocatalyst were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The CV and CA confirmed the advantage of GNF as the supporting material. This can be explained by assuming that the enhanced activities of GNF-supported catalyst for methanol electrooxidation were caused by the unique properties of GNF.

  • The changing structure of organization and the increasing diversity of business have forced organizations to have abilities to coordinate dispersed business activities. They have required cooperation and coordination among the functional units in the organization which should involve group decision-making processes. Although many group decision-making support tools and methods have been introduced to enable the collaborative process of group decision-making, they often lack the features supporting the dynamic complexity issue frequently occurring at group decision-making processes. This results in cognitive unfit between the group decision-making tasks and their supporting tools, bringing about mixed results in their effects on group decision-making. This study proposes system dynamics modeling as a group decision-making support tool to deal with the group decision -making tasks having properties of dynamic complexity in terms of cognitive fit theory.
