  • This scoping review was conducted to identify the trends of cost-effectiveness studies on treatment of Korean medicine after rotator cuff surgery and indicators used in those studies. In researching stage, "patients after rotator cuff surgery", "cost-effectiveness evaluation" and "treatment of Korean medicine" were set as the keywords in "Pubmed", "Google scholar" and Korean databases (RISS, OASIS, KCI). There were no studies containing all three keywords, and after searching separately for "cost-effectiveness evaluation" and "treatment of Korean medicine", each 7 studies were reviewed. The indicators used in the study were identified such as study design, characteristics of subjects, outcome measurement and others. This study identified the need for cost-effectiveness evaluation on the treatment of Korean medicine after rotator cuff surgery. We expect that those indicators will be used to implement other studies afterwards.

  • Background: Dopamine receptor agonists (DRAs) have been associated with impulse control disorders (ICDs) in Parkinson's disease (PD) in preliminary studies. Whether the association holds true when DRAs are used to treat non-PD, such as restless legs syndrome, prolactinoma, and several mood disorders is uncertain. Objective: The present study aimed to understand the research gaps related to the risk of ICDs associated with pramipexole or ropinirole (PRX/ROP) use as a treatment for specific underlying diseases, excluding Parkinson's disorders. Methods: We conducted a scoping review, systematically searching databases to identify literature on the types, prevalence, and factors associated with ICD in non-PD patients receiving PRX/ROP. All relevant information that helped understand the epidemiology of ICDs among non-PD patients taking PRX/ROP were extracted and analyzed. We also evaluated the potential associations between PRX/ROP and ICDs, utilizing the Naranjo scale or statistical analysis, depending on the type of literature. Results: We included 24 articles (19 case reports or case series and 5 population-based studies) in this scoping review. Evaluating the 19 case reports or case series using Naranjo scores led to the discovery of a possible link between PRX/ROP exposure and ICDs. However, important information to assess causality is frequently missing. Moreover, the population-based studies lack diversity in the study populations and enough study samples to draw conclusive results. Conclusion: Our scoping review suggests that the currently available literature requires more details in future case reports and for well-powered studies in various disease conditions where PRX/ROP is frequently used.

  • Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) has been known as an efficient and effective software reuse methodology. One of the key activities of SPLE is scoping analysis, which determines the range of the features to be developed as reusable assets. Although several scoping methods has been reported, they are not sufficient to apply them to the defense domain. In this paper, we present a scoping method applicable to the defense domain, and present a case study for applying SPLE to inertial navigation weapon system. At first, the proposed method determines the range of candidate features to be applied for the platform. The range is then adjusted from the perspective of product benefit. The final range of features is decided through considering the total cost of a product line. We will demonstrate and evaluate the applicability of the proposed method by showing how we can decide the scope of features to be engineered for the navigation software product line.

  • Objectives The purpose of this scoping review is to investigate the trends and gaps in existing research on neural mobilization in Korea and to suggest further directions for study. Methods A scoping review was sequentially conducted according to the five steps outlined by Arksey and O'Malley, and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. We searched five domestic databases (RISS, DBpia, KISS, ScienceON, and KMBASE) and identified relevant literature reported until April 15, 2021. The key search terms used were "Neural mobilization" and "Neurodynamic". Results Of the 1383 studies identified in the search, 50 were finally selected. Of these, 45 studies were in the field of medicine and pharmacy and physical therapy as the most common sub-field. Thirty-eight of the 50 studies (76%) were randomized controlled trials. Neural mobilization was most frequently used in the treatment of stroke (n = 13) and of various neuromusculoskeletal diseases such as cervical radiculopathy (n = 8) and low back pain (n = 5). The main targets of neural mobilization were the median nerve (n = 20) and sciatic nerve (n = 14). The most commonly used technique for neural mobilization was that developed by Butler and Jones in 1991 (n = 10). Conclusions This is the first scoping review of neural mobilization in Korea. We believe that further research on neural mobilization with other types of research design is necessary to investigate the utility of neural mobilization and to establish standard protocols. Our findings indicate that neural mobilization can be considered as an intervention for neuromusculoskeletal diseases in Korean medicine.

  • Background: Dental hygienists, who play a vital role in promoting oral health, experience burnout due to various factors. This study aimed to identify these factors through a scoping review of the literature on burnout among dental hygienists in Korea to develop prevention and intervention strategies for burnout. Methods: The literature review was conducted following a scoping review protocol, which included five stages: identifying the literature question, identifying relevant studies, study selection, charting the data, summarizing, and reporting the results. Of the 352 documents initially reviewed, 35 were ultimately selected as final studies. These documents were analyzed to identify general characteristics and key variables related to burnout and to review the recommendations made by the studies. Results: Analysis of the final documents revealed that most studies published between 2013 and 2018 involved sample sizes ranging from 201 to 300 participants. Burnout-related characteristics include age, salary, work experience, and marital status. Emotional labor was the key variable most frequently identified, followed by intention to leave, job stress, job satisfaction, job involvement, and self-efficacy. Conclusion: This study suggests that strategies for preventing and intervening in burnout should be developed through both personal efforts and institutional measures. This approach will improve the work environment for dental hygienists and, consequently, enhance the quality of dental healthcare services.

  • Purpose: The present study aims to identify research trends on diabetes mellitus (DM) self-management intervention, suggesting directions for follow-up studies through a scoping review. Methods: This study conducted the scoping review process outlined by Arskey and O' Malley using the JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute) template. The databases used were Riss, Kiss, NDSL, KMbase, Google Scholar. This study searched the literature published between January 2011 and November 2021 by entering keywords related to DM self-management. Results: Thirty-five studies were selected for analysis. The period for 24 articles was 12 weeks or longer. The interventions consisted of education, exercise, counseling, and coaching. Not all studies applied the theory of behavior change. Fourteen studies included three factors relating to behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and blood sugar changes to measure effectiveness, while ten studies included all four factors. Most interventions were effective both in DM self-management and self-care. Further, the intervention persistence effect of each study varied. Conclusion: While research on DM self-management intervention has been conducted at domestically and abroad, this decreased during COVID-19 pandemic. This study suggests the importance of systematically developing effective necessary optimal DM self-management interventions that can change behaviors to prevent diabetic complications and improve quality of life.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this scoping review is to suggest future treatment and research directions for adult ADHD by examining domestic trends in Korean research on adults with ADHD tendencies. Methods: The present review used Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review methodology. Eight domestic databases were used, and a search was conducted in July 2023 while targeting domestic papers that had been published within the last 20 years. Subject keywords included 'College student', 'Soldier', and 'Adult', and the subject-related terms that were searched for included 'ADHD'. Results: From 502 initially collected articles, 78 were ultimately selected for analysis in this work. Domestic research related to adult ADHD has been steadily conducted since 2000, and most such research has been done in psychology. Regarding the research participants, those in their 20s were the most common age group, and college students accounted for more than half of participants. In terms of study design, survey studies were the most common, while there was a lack of studies on intervention. The subject most closely dealt with in ADHD studies was interpersonal relationships, followed by depression and addiction. The main intervention used in this study was cognitive behavioral therapy, however it was limited in number. Conclusions: More multifaceted studies on adult ADHD need to be conducted using various research methodologies, and there is also a need for more studies using interventions. It is also important for such research to be expanded to broader geographic areas, ages, and occupations.
