Localized communication networks for office automation, security monitoring, environmental management of buildings, computer communications, and other applications enjoy every increasing demand. This paper proposes a direct sequence spread spectrum communication system for use in power line data transmission. Advantages of power distribution circuits include reasonably universal coverage and easy access vis a standard wall plug. Disadvantages include limited communication bandwidth, relatively high noise levels, and varying levels of impedance, noise, and attenuation. Spread spectrum signalling provides immunity to narrow-band signal impairments and multiplexing capability. Our prototype power line communication module supports completely physical and data link layers based on the international standard ISO 10368 for reliable high-speed power line communication system. Moreover it provides useful functions to compose a plant monitoring and control system. All the circuits of the communication module are included in one compact circuit. Thus a functional communication system for the power line plant monitoring and control is implemented.
This study is aimed to construct a marine small hydro power plant using discharge water of fish farm in Jeju Haengwon-ri. The difference of design methods between marine small hydro power plant and land small hydro power plant is to consider the tides. Moreover, ground condition should be examined because gushout sea water comes out from the ground at high tide in Jeju as the ground of Jeju beach consists of basalt stone. From the field test of the turbine generator after construction of the power plant, output power and efficiency of the turbine generator shows good conformance to the required conditions.
This paper introduces a feasibility evaluation method for prognosis systems based on an empirical model in nuclear power plants. By exploiting the dynamical signature characterized by abnormal phenomena, the prognosis technique can be applied to detect the plant abnormal states prior to an unexpected plant trip. Early $operator^{\circ}{\emptyset}s$ awareness can extend available time for operation action; therefore, unexpected plant trip and time-consuming maintenance can be reduced. For the practical application in nuclear power plant, it is important not only to enhance the advantages of prognosis systems, but also to quantify the negative impact in prognosis, e.g., uncertainty. In order to apply these prognosis systems to real nuclear power plants, it is necessary to conduct a feasibility evaluation; the evaluation consists of 4 steps (: the development of an evaluation method, the development of selection criteria for the abnormal state, acquisition and signal processing, and an evaluation experiment). In this paper, we introduce the feasibility evaluation method and propose further study points for applying prognosis systems from KHNP's experiences in testing some prognosis technologies available in the market.
The maximum and mean indicated pressure of two stroke low speed diesel engine has been continuously increased with a view of increasing engine power and also reducing fuel consumption. As a result, axial excitation has been increased comparing to that of the previous one. So the axial vibration damper in standard one is applied to all two stroke low speed diesel engine at the free end of crankshaft. Though many studies were carried out for marine use, few has been made for diesel power plant because there was little demand for power plant. Nowadays, diesel engine is much to be used for many benefits. In this paper, the optimum design of axial vibration on the 65 kW diesel power plant with tow 9K80MC-S engines of 9 cylinders was carried out. And the axial-torsional coupled vibration of this shafting system is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.
A power-plant simulation tool has been developed for training the plant operators and testing a plant control system. The simulation tool is composed of a graphic editor, a component model builder and a system simulation solver. Such new programing techniques as object-oriented modeling and GUI(Graphical User Interface) are employed in developing the simulation tool. The graphic editor is based on the OpenGL library for effective implementation of GUI while the component model builder is based on object-oriented programming for efficient generalization of component models. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.
In a power plant, disturbance detection and diagnosis are massive and complex problems. Once a disturbance occurs, it can be either persistent, self cleared, cleared by the automatic controllers or propagated into another disturbance until it subsides in a new equilibrium or a stable state. In addition to the Physical complexity of the power plant structure itself, these dynamic behaviors of the disturbances further complicate the fault monitoring and diagnosis tasks. A data structure called a disturbance interrelation analysis graph(DIAG) is proposed in this paper, trying to capture, organize and better utilize the vast and interrelated knowledge required for power plant disturbance detection and diagnosis. The DIAG is a multi-layer directed AND/OR graph composed of 4 layers. Each layer includes vertices that represent components, disturbances, conditions and sensors respectively With the implementation of the DIAG, disturbances and their relationships can be conveniently represented and traced with modularized operations. All the cascaded disturbances following an initial triggering disturbance can be diagnosed in the context of that initial disturbance instead of diagnosing each of them as an individual disturbance. DIAG is applied to a typical cooling water system of a thermal power plant and its effectiveness is also demonstrated.

We studied the value of a nuclear power plant by considering Koreans' willingness to pay (WTP) for neutralizing the various problems caused by building and operating a new plant. For this, we used a conjoint analysis and ordered logistic regression. We then compared the WTP estimates between various segment groups. The results revealed that each household was willing to pay an additional 99,677 Korean Won (KRW)/mo on average to resolve the negative impacts from a nuclear plant. Therefore, the yearly cognitive and economic value of a nuclear plant in Korea was about 19 trillion KRW. Through a segment analysis, we found that the more educated, younger, and poorer groups gave higher cognitive values than the less educated, older, and richer groups, respectively. Also, people who lived far from a plant gave higher values than people living near a plant, and people with more knowledge about or interest in nuclear energy gave higher values than people with less knowledge or interest. People who felt that nuclear energy is necessary gave higher values to nuclear energy than those who did not. Our results can be used as bases to set targets for promoting nuclear energy and pursuing a national project of building a nuclear power plant.
Turbine blade cooling is one of the major technologies to enhance the performance of gas turbine and combined cycle power plants. In this study, two cases of coolant pre-cooling schemes were applied in combined cycle power plant: decrease of coolant mass flow needed to cool turbine blade and increase of turbine inlet temperature (TIT). Both schemes are benefited by the decrease of coolant temperature through coolant pre-cooling. Under the same degree of pre-cooling, increasing TIT exhibits larger plant power boost and higher plant efficiency than reducing coolant flow. As a result, the former produces the same gas turbine power with a much smaller degree of pre-cooling than the latter. Another advantage of increasing TIT is a higher plant efficiency. Even with an assumption of partial achievement of the theoretically predicted TIT, the method of increasing TIT can provide considerably larger power output.
The power semiconductor is widely used in the power plant or industrial field because of genealization and enlargement. It has been controlled and operated according to its own control method. Especially in case of Power plant, it plays a major role in AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) or electro chlorination control circuits. Generally, they used in Analog control system at above field. But each SCR current value is different because of load unbalance or switching characteristic variations, it may cause power plant unit trip or system disorder according to SCR element burn out or bad operating condition. Therefore, in this paper a development of 3 phase current balance control algorithm is described. it gets over the past analog control system limit, controls SCR gate firing angle for 3 phase current balance.
The auxiliary transformers or start-up/stand-by transformer(s) are installed against the start-up and shut-down of generator and emergency status in fossil power plant. The on-site power supply configuration using these transformers must be determined, considering configuration requirements, site characteristics, reliability and availability severely because it is remarkably important for safety and ecfonomy of plant. The auxiliary or start-up/stand-by power supply configuration has been determined considering only safety requirements and construction cost until now in Korea. This paper presents general theorems for the reliability estimation and proposes 2-unit based 4 alternatives for the start-up power supply stystem of 500㎿ standardized fossil power plant. The reliability and unavailability of equipment, system and configuration are determined using minimal cut-set methodology. The optimized plan of 4 alternatives is determined based on this ultimate reliability and unavailability.
