Design of Low-Density Parity-Check Codes for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Systems (Multiple-Input Multiple-output system을 위한 Low-Density Parity-Check codes 설계)

  • In this paper we design an irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) code for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, using a simple extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart method. The MIMO systems considered are optimal maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) detector. The MIMO detector and the LDPC decoder exchange soft information and form a turbo iterative receiver. The EXIT charts are used to obtain the edge degree distribution of the irregular LDPC code which is optimized for the MIMO detector. It is shown that the performance of the designed LDPC code is better than that of conventional LDPC code which was optimized for either the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel or the MIMO channel.

  • In real-time communication services, delay constraints are among the most important QoS (Quality of Service) factors. In particular, it is difficult to guarantee the delay requirement over wireless channels, since they exhibit dynamic time-varying behavior and even severe burst-errors during periods of deep fading. Channel throughput may be increased, but at the cost of the additional delays when ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request) schemes are used. For real-time communication services, it is very essential to predict data deliverability. This paper derives the delay distribution and the successful delivery probability within a given delay budget using a priori channel model and a posteriori information from the perspective of queueing theory. The Gilbert-Elliot burst-noise channel is employed as an a Priori channel model, where a two-state Markov-modulated Bernoulli process $(MMBP_2)$ is used. for a posteriori information, the channel parameters, the queue-length and the initial channel state are assumed to be given. The numerical derivation is verified and analyzed via Monte Carlo simulations. This numerical derivation is then applied to a rate control scheme for real-time video transmission, where an optimal encoding rate is determined based on the future channel capacity and the distortion of the reconstructed pictures.

A Weighted Block Adaptive Estimation for STBC Single-Carrier System in Frequency-Selective Time-Varying Channels (다중 경로 시변 채널 환경에서 시공간 블록 부호 단일 반송파 시스템을 위한 가중치 블록 적응형 채널 추정 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a weighted block adaptive channel estimation (WBA-CE) for a space-time block-coded (STBC) single-carrier transmission with a cyclic-prefix is proposed. In operation of the WBA-CE, a STBC matrix-wise block for filter input symbols is first formulated. Applying a weighted a posteriori error vector-based least-square (LS) criterion for this block, the coefficient correction terms of the WBA-CE are then computed. An approximate steady-state excess mean-square error (EMSE) of the WBA-CE for the stationary optimal coefficient is also analyzed. Simulation results show in a time-varying typical urban (TU) channel that the proposed channel estimator provides better bit-error-rate (BER) performances than conventional algorithms such as the NLMS and RLS channel estimators.

  • Most pattern classifiers have been designed based on the ML (Maximum Likelihood) training algorithm which is simple and relatively powerful. The ML training is an efficient algorithm to individually estimate the model parameters of each class under the assumption that all class models in a classifier are statistically independent. That assumption, however, is not valid in many real situations, which degrades the performance of the classifier. In this paper, we propose a minimum-error-rate training algorithm based on the MAP (Maximum a Posteriori) approach. The algorithm regards the normalized outputs of the classifier as estimates of the a posteriori probability, and tries to maximize those estimates. According to Bayes decision theory, the proposed algorithm satisfies the condition of minimum-error-rate classificatin. We apply this algorithm to NPM (Neural Prediction Model) for speech recognition, and derive new disrminative training algorithms. Experimental results on ten Korean digits recognition have shown the reduction of 37.5% of the number of recognition errors.

  • In this paper, we designed a turbo decoder using VHDL. To maximize effective free distance of the turbo code, we implemented pseudo random interleaver. A MAP(Maximum a posteriori) decoder is used as a primimary decoder. We avoided multiplication by using lookup tables(ROM). We expect that this small-sized turbo decoder is suitable for mobile communication. We simulated turbo decoder with Altera MAX+PLUS II.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) high-resolution image reconstruction algorithm using local statistics. In order to preserve the edge information of an original high-resolution image, a visibility function defined by local statistics of the low-resolution image is incorporated into MAP estimation process, so that the local smoothness is adaptively controlled. The weighted non-quadratic convex functional is defined to obtain the optimal solution that is as close as possible to the original high-resolution image. An iterative algorithm is utilized for obtaining the solution, and the smoothing parameter is updated at each iteration step from the partially reconstructed high-resolution image is required. Experimental results demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • 본 논문은 MAP(Maximum A Posteriori) 복호 알고리즘을 이용한 MAP Decoder의 설계에 관해 다룬다. 채널코딩기법은 채널을 통해서 디지털 정보를 전송할 때 신뢰성을 제공하기 위해서 사용되어진다. 즉 수신 단에서 수신된 정보의 오류를 검사하고 수정하기 위한 목적으로 송신 단에서는 디지털 정보에 부가 정보를 첨가해서 전송하게 된다. 그래서 무선 이동 통신에서 성능이 우수한 채널코딩기법은 우수한 통신 품질을 위해서는 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 최근에 Shannon의 한계에 매우 근접한 성능으로 많이 알려진 오류정정부호로 터보코드가 발표되었고 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 터보코드의 부호기로는 RSC(Recursive Systematic Convolutional) 코드가 사용되며 복호 알고리즘으로는 주로 MAP 복호 알고리즘을 사용한다. 본 논문에서 제안된 MAP 복호기는 하드웨어로 구현하기 위해서 변형된 LOG-MAP 복호 알고리즘을 이용하였고 터보디코더의 반복 복호에 이용할 수 있다.

  • A new error estimation method is proposed. This utilizes the variation of energy functional about the mapping function between the global and the master elements. The resultant system of equations is the weak form of the generalized conservation checks. However, This formulation has an important information about the relations between the connected elements. In other words, some relations between the connected elements are obtained and these can be used very usefully to measure it posteriori error. In this paper, the explicit formulations are presented for the 1-dimensional model and the 2-dimensional model problems. Numerical results are provided for first order shear deformation theody of beam model and the plane stress problem.
