The fully automatic algorithm from initial finite element mesh generation to remeshing in two dimensional geometry is introduced using bubble packing method (BPM) for finite element analysis. BPM determines the node placement by force-balancing configuration of bubbles and the triangular meshes are made by Delaunay triangulation with advancing front concept. In BPM, we suggest two node-search algorithms and the adaptive/recursive bubble controls to search the optimal nodal position. To use the automatically generated mesh information in FEA, the new enhanced bandwidth minimization scheme with high efficiency in CPU time is developed. In the remeshing stage, the mesh refinement is incorporated by the control of bubble size using two parameters. And Superconvergent Patch Recovery (SPR) technique is used for error estimation. To verify the capability of this algorithm, we consider two elasticity problems, one is the bending problem of short cantilever beam and the tension problem of infinite plate with hole. The numerical results indicate that the algorithm by BPM is able to refine the mesh based on a posteriori error and control the mesh size easily by two parameters.
Purpose: This study compared the performance of new NONMEM estimation methods using a population analysis dataset collected from a clinical study that consisted of 40 individuals and 567 observations after a single oral dose of glimepiride. Method: The NONMEM 7.2 estimation methods tested were first-order conditional estimation with interaction (FOCEI), importance sampling (IMP), importance sampling assisted by mode a posteriori (IMPMAP), iterative two stage (ITS), stochastic approximation expectation-maximization (SAEM), and Markov chain Monte Carlo Bayesian (BAYES) using a two-compartment open model. Results: The parameters estimated by IMP, IMPMAP, ITS, SAEM, and BAYES were similar to those estimated using FOCEI, and the objective function value (OFV) for diagnosing the model criteria was significantly decreased in FOCEI, IMPMAP, SAEM, and BAYES in comparison with IMP. Parameter precision in terms of the estimated standard error was estimated precisely with FOCEI, IMP, IMPMAP, and BAYES. The run time for the model analysis was shortest with BAYES. Conclusion: In conclusion, the new estimation methods in NONMEM 7.2 performed similarly in terms of parameter estimation, but the results in terms of parameter precision and model run times using BAYES were most suitable for analyzing this dataset.
The demands for robotic and automatic system are continually increasing in manufacturing fields. There have been many studies to monitor and predict the system, but they have mainly focused upon measuring cutting force, and current of motor spindle, and upon using acoustic sensor, etc. In this study, digital image of time series sequence was acquired by taking advantage of optical technique. Mean square error was obtained from it and was available for useful observation data. The parameter was estimated using PAA(parameter adaptation algorithm) from observation data. AR(auto regressive) model was selected for system model and fifth order was decided according to parameter estimation. Uncorrelation test was also carried out to verify convergence of parameter. Through the proceedings, it was found that there was a system stability.
In this paper, the adaptive nodal generation procedure based on the estimated local and global error in the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method is proposed. To investigate the possibility of h-type adaptivity of EFG method, a simple nodal refinement scheme is used. By adding new node along the background cell that is used in numerical integration, both of the local and global errors can be controlled adaptively. These errors are estimated by calculating the difference between the values of the projected stresses and original EFG stresses. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop the reliable nodal generator based on the local and global errors that is estimated posteriori. To evaluate the performance of proposed adaptive procedure, the convergence behavior is investigated for several examples.
In this study, a new refinement technique for 3-dimensional hexahedral element mesh is proposed, which is aimed at the control of mesh density. With the proposed scheme the mesh is refined adaptively to the elemental error which is estimated by 'a posteriori' error estimator based on the energy norm. A desired accuracy of an analysis i.e. a limit of error defines the new desired mesh density map on the current mesh. To obtain the desired mesh density, the refinement procedure is repeated iteratively until no more elements to be refined exist. In the algorithm, at first the regions of mesh to be refined are defined and, then, the zero-thickness element layers are inserted into the interfaces between the regions. All the meshes in the regions, in which the zero-thickness layers are inserted, are to be regularized in order to improve the shape of the slender elements on the interfaces. This algorithm is tested on a simple shape of 2-d quadrilateral element mesh and 3-d hexahedral element mesh. A numerical example of elastic deformation of a plate with a hole shows the effectiveness of the proposed refinement scheme.
In the finite element analysis of forming process, objects are described with a finite number of elements and nodes and the approximated solutions can be obtained by the variational principle. One of the shortcomings of a finite element analysis is that the structure of mesh has become inefficient and unusable because discretization error increases as deformation proceeds due to severe distortion of elements. If the state of current mesh satisfies a certain remeshing criterion, analysis is stopped instantly and resumed with a reconstructed mesh. In the study, a new remeshing algorithm using tetrahedral elements has been developed, which is adapted to the desired mesh density. In order to reduce the discretization error, desired mesh sizes in each lesion of the workpiece are calculated using the Zinkiewicz and Zhu's a-posteriori error estimation scheme. The pre-constructed mesh is constructed based on the modified point insertion technique which is adapted to the density function. The object domain is divided into uniformly-sized sub-domains and the numbers of nodes in each sub-domain are redistributed, respectively. After finishing the redistribution process of nodes, a tetrahedral mesh is reconstructed with the redistributed nodes, which is adapted to the density map and resulting in good mesh quality. A goodness and adaptability of the constructed mesh is verified with a testing measure. The proposed remeshing technique is applied to the finite element analyses of forging processes.
A combined model of probabilistic and MLP(multi layer perceptron) model is proposed for the pattern classification of EMG( electromyogram) signals. The MLP model has a problem of not guaranteeing the global minima of error and different quality of approximations to Bayesian probabilities. The probabilistic model is, however, closely related to the estimation error of model parameters and the fidelity of assumptions. A proper combination of these will reduce the effects of the problems and be robust to input variations. Proposed model is able to get the MAP(maximum a posteriori probability) in the probabilistic model by estimating a priori probability distribution using the MLP model adaptively. This method minimize the error probability of the probabilistic model as long as the realization of the MLP model is optimal, and this is a good combination of the probabilistic model and the MLP model for the usage of MLP model reliability. Simulation results show the benefit of the proposed model compared to use the Mlp and the probabilistic model seperately and the average calculation time fro classification is about 50ms in the case of combined motion using an IBM PC 25 MHz 386model.
The decision directed (DD) approach is widely used to determine a priori SNR from noisy speech signals. In conventional speech enhancement systems with a DD approach, a priori SNR is estimated by using only the magnitude components and consequently follows a posteriori SNR with one frame delay. We propose a phase-dependent two-step a priori SNR estimator based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) in the log-mel spectral domain so that we can consider both magnitude and phase information, and it can overcome the performance degradation caused by one frame delay. From the experimental results, the proposed estimator is shown to improve the output SNR of enhanced speech signals by 2.3 dB compared to the conventional DD approach-based system.
When we make a speaker adapted model using MAPE (maximum a posteriori estimation), the adapted model has one mixture in each state. This is because we cannot estimate a number of a priori distribution from a speaker-independent model in each state. If the model is represented by one mixture in each state, it is not well adadpted to specific speaker because it is difficult to represent various speech informationof the speaker with one mixture. In this paper, we suggest the method using several mixtures to well represent various speech information of the speaker in each state. But, because speaker-specific training dat is not sufficient, this method can't be used in every state. So, we make the number of mixtures in each state variable in proportion to the number of frames and to the determinant ofthe variance matrix in the state. Using the proposed method, we reduced the error rate than methods using one branch in each state.
Adaptive mesh refinement scheme is incorporated with the Boundary Element Method (BEM) in order to get accurate solution with relatively fewer unknowns for the case of magnetostatic field analysis and A new and simple posteriori local error estimation method is presented. The local error is defined as integration over the element of the difference between solutions acquired us ing second order and first order interpolation function and is used as the criterion for mesh refinement at given grid. Case study for two dimensional problems with singular point reveals that meshes are concentrated on the neighbor of singular point and the error is decreased gradually and the solutions calculated on the domain are converged to the analytic solution as the number of unknowns increases. The adaptive mesh gives much better rate of convergence in global errors than the uniform mesh.
