The adsorption of disperse yellow 3 (DY 3) on granular activated carbon (GAC) was investigated for isothermal adsorption and kinetic and thermodynamic parameters by experimenting with initial concentration, contact time, temperature, and pH of the dye as adsorption parameters. In the pH change experiment, the adsorption percent of DY 3 on activated carbon was highest in the acidic region, pH 3 due to electrostatic attraction between the surface of the activated carbon with positive charge and the anion (OH-) of DY 3. The adsorption equilibrium data of DY 3 fit the Langmuir isothermal adsorption equation best, and it was found that activated carbon can effectively remove DY 3 from the calculated separation factor (RL). The heat of adsorption-related constant (B) from the Temkin equation did not exceed 20 J mol-1, indicating that it is a physical adsorption process. The pseudo second order kinetic model fits well within 10.72% of the error percent in the kinetic experiments. The plots for Weber and Morris intraparticle diffusion model were divided into two straight lines. The intraparticle diffusion rate was slow because the slope of the stage 2 (intraparticle diffusion) was smaller than that of stage 1 (boundary layer diffusion). Therefore, it was confirmed that the intraparticle diffusion was rate controlling step. The free energy change of the DY 3 adsorption by activated carbon showed negative values at 298 ~ 318 K. As the temperature increased, the spontaneity increased. The enthalpy change of the adsorption reaction of DY 3 by activated carbon was 0.65 kJ mol-1, which was an endothermic reaction, and the entropy change was 2.14 J mol-1 K-1.
We have found that Thermoactinomyces vulgaris KFB-Cl00 produces a chitinase. The optimum temperature and pH of the enzyme activity were $55^{\circ}C$ and 6.5. The enzyme was stable after heat treatment at $80^{\circ}C$ for 30 min and stable in acidic and basic conditions (PH 6.0~11.0). The thermostable endo-chitinase from Thermoactinomyces vulgaris KFB-C100 was cloned into the plasmid pBR322 by using E. coli DH5$\alpha$ as a host strain. The positive clone carrying a recombinant plasmid (PKCHI23) with a 4.1-kb fragment containing the chitinase gene was found. The recombinant plasmid was analyzed to determine the essential region for chitinase activity and obtained a 2.3-kb fragment, which was sub cloned into pTrc99A using the PstI and SalI sites to construct pTrc99A/pKCHI23-3. The resulting plasmid exerted high chitinase activity upon transformation of E. coli XL1-Blue cells. Chitinase was overproduced 14 times more in the clone cells than in the wild-type cells and the enzyme was purified to homogeneity. The purified enzyme showed the similar properties as the native chitinase from T. vulgaris in terms of molecular weight and substrate specificity. The catalytic action of the cloned enzyme was an endo type, producing chitobiose as a major reaction product.

The crystallization behavior of amorphous silicon (a-Si) film was investigated by using Cu-field aided lateral crystallization (Cu-FALC) process below $450^{\circ}C$. The lateral crystallization was induced from the Cu deposited region outside of pattern toward the Cu-free region inside of the pattern by applying an electric field during heat treatment. As expected, the lateral crystallization toward Cu-free region proceeded from negative toward positive electrode side. The occurrence of Cu-FALC phenomenon was interpreted in terms of dominant diffusing species in the reaction between Cu and Si. Even at the annealing temperature of $350^{\circ}C$, the large dendrite-shaped branches were formed in the crystallized region and the polarity in the lateral crystallization was clearly observed. Consequently, we could successfully crystallize the a-Si at the temperature as low as $350^{\circ}C$ by an electric field of 30 V/cm with fast crystallization velocity of 12 $\mu$m/h.
The peptidyl prolyl sis-trans isomerase (PPIase, EC 5.2.1.8) from bacillus stearothermophilus was extracted from the cells treated with by lysozyme. PPIase was purified from the cell extracts by heat treatment, ammonium sulfate precipitation, ion exchange chromatography and finally gel filtration, sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE). The molecular weight of the purified PPIase was estimated as 18kDa by SDS-PAGE. The 39 amino acid residues from the N-terminus were determined by the protein sequencer. The enzyme showed the optimum pH at 8.0 and was stable at the range of pH 7.0∼8.0. The enzyme was considerably stable after heat treatment at 60$\^{C}$ for 30minutes, and the enzyme was quite stable up to 65$\^{C}$. The presence of the PPIase in the refolding solution accelerated the isomerization rate of the assay peptide. PPIase gene of Bacillus stearothermophilus was screened from a genomic library by plaque hybridization using the A-l primer as a probe. A PPIase positive plaque contained a 3.0kb insert of the chromosomal DNA. A 3.0kb fragment was subcloned into pUC18, resulting pPI-40. A DNA fragment encoding the N-terminal portion of the PPIase in pPI-40 was amplified by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) method using the A-1 and B-2 primers. The amplified fragment was cloned into the Sma I site of pUC18 and recombinant plasmid was designated as pSN-18. The nucleotide sequence of 167bp fragment was determined. The deduced amino acid sequence of PPIase was completely matched with the determined N-terminal amino acid sequence of PPIase B. stearothermophilus.
The fructus of Crataegus pinnatifida Bunge has been used as medicinal and food source in worldwide. In this study, a strong direct thrombin inhibition and antithrombosis activity were identified from the methanol extract of C. pinnatifida Bunge fructus. The solvent fractionation of fructus extract using hexane, ethylacetate, butanol revealed that the butanol fraction has a prominent antithrombin activity. Thrombin time(blood-clot formation time) and activated partial thromboplastin time(aPTT) extended to 835% and 315% by addition of the butanol fraction at concentration of 1.25 mg/mL, whereas thrombin time extended to 287% by addition of aspirin at concentration of 1,25 mg/mL. The butanol fraction showed anthrone-positive and weak ninhydrine-postive reaction. The thrombin inhibitory activity was not related to previously reported flavonoids or polyphenols. The activity was maintained against acid treatment(0.5 N HCl for 120 min), but rapidly lost by heat-treatment($100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min). Our results suggested that fructus of C. pinnatifida Bunge with non-heat treatment process could be developed as a natural source of antithrombosis.

In this study, a survey on the wearing satisfaction of commercial men's upper body correction underwear was conducted targeting mildly obese men in their twenties, and it was intended to suggest improvement points for the correction underwear. The product used for the study was Adapt's 95 PROBLEM, and 15 subjects were selected as males in their 20s with a BMI of 25-30 (mild obesity). As a result, men's awareness and interest in corrective underwear were low. In the wearing satisfaction survey, 74% of those who answered negatively that it was uncomfortable to wear and take off. In terms of pressure relief, 60% of those who felt the pressure was strong at the beginning, but as time passed, they got used to it and answered that there was no major inconvenience. However, with regard to digestion after a meal, 40% of the subjects felt that the pressure interfered with digestion. There were many deficiencies in terms of functionality, with more than half of those who responded negatively with regard to stuffiness and heat, and many negative opinions regarding sweat absorption and discharge. In the visual section, positive reaction was shown in chest, side waist and front waist correction, and among them, the front waist had the highest score. In conclusion, it seems that functional parts related to heat and sweat must be improved in consideration of the stuffiness and indigestion brought about by excessive pressure for men's upper body correction underwear.
In order to examine physicochemical gelation behavior of ultra high temperature(UHT) pasteurized milk during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ and 25$^{\circ}C$, pH, electrophoresis, alcohol test, sialic acid contents and free amino groups contents were biweekly determined. The pH of UHT pasteurized milk decreased with increasing storage time. Gelation of the UHT milk occured faster at 25$^{\circ}C$ than at 4$^{\circ}C$ with larger decreasing rate of pH. The alcohol test showed positive results at lower pH than 6.5, which could indicate the casein instability and beginning of gelation. The electrophoretic patterns showed a decrease in the concentrations of all caseins. Degradation of k-casein was faster in all cases, while $\alpha$-casein and $\beta$-casein were also extensively degraded later. The sialic acid contents of the samples increased gradually during storage, and the increasing rate was higher before gel formation. The free amino groups of the samples increased gradually during storage. The increasing rate of free amino groups was faster at 25$^{\circ}C$ than at 4$^{\circ}C$. The samples stored at 25$^{\circ}C$ gelled earlier than those stored at 25$^{\circ}C$, with corresponding increase of free amino groups. The residual proteolytic enzymes, which survived during the UHT heat treatments and were reactivated during storage, could be responsible for UHT pasteurized milk gelation during storage. It is assumed that proteolytic degradation of caseins followed by aggregation would be attributable to complicated reaction mechanism.
A 7-year-old castrated male Korean Shorthair cat was referred with lethargy and anorexia. Laboratory examination revealed moderate degenerative changes of peripheral neutrophils on blood smear examination and decreased levels of free and total thyroxine ($T_4$) as well as bacterial growth on blood culture. Molecular analyses of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene and heat shock protein 60 gene confirmed the bacterium as Enterobacter cloacae. A minimal inhibitory concentration test showed multidrug resistance of the bacterium against 16 antibiotics. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and subsequent sequencing specifically for $bla_{TEM}$, $bla_{SHV}$, $bla_{CTX-M}$, and plasmid-mediated ampC genes revealed positive results to $bla_{TEM-1}$, $bla_{CTX-M-15}$, and plasmid-mediated $bla_{ACT-1}$ genes, indicating that the isolated bacterium contains plasmids containing genes encoding extended-spectrum beta-lactamase and plasmid-mediated ampC beta-lactamase. After 1 month of treatment with antibiotics and levothyroxine, the cat's condition improved; both the thyroid function test and the blood culture showed no abnormalities. This is the first report of community-acquired multidrug-resistant E. cloacae-induced euthyroid sick syndrome in a cat. By the prompt diagnostic procedures and properly selected antibiotic therapy, the cat was recovered from the multidrug-resistant bacterium-induced septicaemia.
Isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamic properties for adsorption of acid fuchsin (AF) dye by activated carbon were carried out using variables such as dose of adsorbent, pH, initial concentration and contact time and temperature. The effect of pH on adsorption of AF showed a bathtub with high adsorption percentage in acidic (pH 8). Isothermal adsorption data were fitted to the Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models. Freundlich isothem model showed the highest agreement and confirmed that the adsorption mechanism was multilayer adsorption. It was found that adsorption capacity increased with increasing temperature. Freundlich's separation factor showed that this adsorption process was an favorable treatment process. Estimated adsorption energy by Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model indicated that the adsorption of AF by activated carbon is a physical adsorption. Adsorption kinetics was found to follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Surface diffusion at adsorption site was evaluated as a rate controlling step by the intraparticle diffusion model. Thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy, Gibbs free energy, enthalpy entropy and isosteric heat of adsorption were investigated. The activation energy and enthalpy change of the adsorption process were 21.19 kJ / mol and 23.05 kJ / mol, respectively. Gibbs free energy was found that the adsorption reaction became more spontaneously with increasing temperature. Positive entropy was indicated that this process was irreversible. The isosteric heat of adsorption was indicated physical adsorption in nature.

Research on the production of lithium hydroxide (LiOH) has been actively conducted in response to the increasing demand for high nickel-based positive electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Herein we studied the conversion of lithium oxide (Li2O) through thermal decomposition of lithium carbonate for the production of lithium hydroxide from lithium carbonate (Li2CO3). The reaction mechanism of lithium carbonate with alumina, quartz and graphite crucible during heat treatment was confirmed. When graphite crucible was used, complete lithium oxide powder was obtained. Based on the TG analysis results, reagent-grade lithium carbonate was heat-treated at 700℃, 900℃ and 1100℃ for various time and atmosphere conditions. XRD analysis showed the produced lithium oxide showed high crystallinity at 1100℃ for 1 hour in a nitrogen atmosphere. In addition, several reagent-grade lithium oxides were reacted at 100℃ to convert to lithium hydroxide. XRD analysis confirmed that lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LiOH·H2O) were produced.
