  • Seven new species of genus Dysidea (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Dysideidae) are described from Jejudo Island and Geomundo Island, Korea. These new species are compared with other reported species in fibre structure and arrangement, and cored detritus. Dysidea reticulum n. sp. is similar to D. glavea in skeletal structure but differ in sponge shape. Dysidea simplex n. sp. is close to D. glavea with loosely arranged skeletal structure but fibres in this new species are not cored with large sands. Dysidea pyeongdaensis n. sp. is characterized by tube-like surface oscules open toward the sandy bottom. Dysidea capillus n. sp. is similar to D. dokdoensis in skeletal structure, but differs in long surface conules. Dysidea mukriensis n. sp. is close to D. corallina in distinct dense surface conules, but differs in sponge shape and skeletal structure. Dysidea membrana n. sp. is similar to D. sabulum in primary fibres cored with numerous large sands, but differs in sponge surface conules and secondary fibres. Dysidea chujaensis n. sp. is unique in the sponge shape and skeletal structure.

  • Lactifluus (Pers.) Roussel is an ectomycorrhizal genus that was recently recognized to be distinct from the genus Lactarius. To date, 226 Lactifluus species have been reported worldwide. Misidentification of Lactifluus species is common because of intraspecific morphological variation, cryptic diversity, and the limited number of taxonomic keys available. Molecular data are indispensable for species delimitation; a multilocus phylogenetic analysis showed that most Asian Lactifluus species are not conspecific with morphologically similar species present on other continents. In particular, Korea has misused European and North American Lactifluus names. In this study, we evaluated the taxonomy of Lactifluus in Korea using both morphological and multilocus molecular (ITS, nrLSU, rpb1, and rpb2) data. We examined 199 Lactifluus specimens collected between 1980 and 2016, and a total of 24 species across the four Lactifluus subgenera were identified. All Korean species are distinct and clearly separated from European and North American species. Five taxa corresponded to previously described species from Asia and the remaining 19 taxa are confirmed as new species. Herein, we provide keys to the Korean Lactifluus species within their subgenera, molecular phylogenies, a summary of diversity, and detailed description of the new species.

  • The genus Grapholita Treitschke, belonging to the tribe Grapholitini, comprises over 150 species worldwide with the majority occurring in the Holarctic region. However, in other regions, only few species are reported owing to a lack of collection and taxonomic study. The genus includes important agricultural pests worldwide that feed on several plants in the families Fabaceae and Rosaceae. In Korea, a comprehensive taxonomic study is required as only eight species have been reported to date. In this study, two species of Grapholita Treitschke, G. latericia Komai, 1999 and G. pallifrontana (Lienig & Zeller, 1846) are newly recorded from Korea. We provide redescribed and illustrated adult and available genitalia. Additionally, all available information, including collecting localities, distribution, host plants and biological characteristics is presented.

  • The genus Discorsopagurus and two species belonging to this genus, Discorsopagurus maclaughlinae and Discorsopagurus tubicola, are herein first reported in Korean waters. Species belonging to Discorsopagurus are easily distinguished from other hermit crabs of the family Paguridae by their telsons that lack indentations and other characteristics such as straight abdomens, fused third and fourth abdominal tergites, and symmetrical uropods. Discorsopagurus maclaughlinae and D. tubicola were found to live in a tube made by a polychaete tubeworm. The two species differ in the shape of the posterior margin of the telson, the length of the pereopod, and the presence of setae on the antennal flagellum. Discorsopagurus tubicola is reported for the second time in the world. In this paper, there will be provided plates and descriptions of the two species.

  • A new marine tardigrade species of the genus Orzeliscus belonging to the family Halechiniscidae is described from the sea coasts of Korea and Japan. This new species is most characterized in having slender, pole-shaped clava with uniform breadth along its whole length. Furthermore, it evidently differs from the congeners by the combination of characters of a hemispherical protrusion on cheek region of the head, a big and bulbous lateral projection between leg III and leg IV, and an elongate papillus terminating with a minute tube on leg IV. 'Orzeliscus cf. belopus' sensu McKirdy, Schmidt and McGinty-Bayly, 1976 from the Galapagos Islands quite resembles this new species in sharing the slender, pole-shaped clava. However, these two Pacific populations are distinguished to each other by body size and shapes of the protrusion on cheek region and the lateral projection between leg III and leg IV. Scanning electron microscope photographs and a key to species of the genus Orzeliscus are also provided herein.

  • Four species of the genus Atylus belonging to the family Dexaminidae are reported from the eastern and southern coasts of Korea. Three of these species are redescribed as new records of this country: Atylus (Atylus) ekmani (Gurjanova), A. (A.) matsukawaensis Hirayama and Takeuchi and A. (Kamehatylus) japonicus Nagata.

  • Two new species of poecilostomatoid copepods associated with echiurans are described from an intertidal mud flat in the Yellow Sea. A new genus Echiuricopus is created to accommodate two new species, E. aprilis and E. tenuipes. Major differences between the two new species are displayed in body length, length of caudal ramus seta I, length/width ratio of leg 5 exopod, and armature of the first antennular segment. Echiuricopus n. gen. is closely related to the genus Goidelia Embleton, 1901, but is distinguished from the latter chiefly by having seven caudal setae, a claw-like process on the first antennular segment, one claw-like process on the maxillary syncoxa, the absence of an inner coxal seta on legs 1-4, different armatures on legs 1-4, and an elongate leg 5 exopod.

  • A taxonomic study was made on the genus Tremex (Hymenoptera: Siricidae) in Korea. The study was carried out with specimens collected throughout the country from 1996 to 1998 and preserved in museums and laboratories of Universities in Korea and in other countries. As a result of this study, the genus Tremex found in Korea now consists of 5 species including one newly recorded species, Tremex contractus Maa and one new species, Tremex nigrocephalus n. sp.

  • Two newly recorded carnivorous amphipod species, Anonyx gurjanovai Steele, 1986 and A. nugax (Phipps, 1774) belonging to the family Uristidae Hurley, 1963, were collected from the East Sea, Korea. Anonyx gurjanovai is included in the A. laticoxae group and is characterized by a concave palm of the propodus in gnathopod 1 and small posteroventral projection at epimeron 3. The other species, A. nugax, represents the A. nugax group and is distinguished from congeneric species based on the presence of a shorter and less acute projection on epimeron 3. There are 13 species of the A. nugax group recorded worldwide, but this is the first report on the presence of the A. nugax group in Korean waters. Previously, three species of the genus Anonyx had been reported in Korea, and through this study, we have added two newly recorded species. Both the newly recorded Anonyx species are illustrated and compared with the related species. A key to the Anonyx species in Korea is also provided.
