Flow Distribution in the Core of the HANARO After Suppressing the Jet Flow in the Guide Tube used for Loading Fission Moly Target. (Fission Moly 표적을 장전하기 위한 안내관의 제트유동 억제 후 하나로 노심유량분포)

  • The HANARO, multi-purpose research reactor, 30 MWth open-tank-in-pool type, is planning to produce a fission moly-99 of radio isotopes, a mother nuclide of Tc-99m, a medical isotope and is under developing a target handling tool for loading and unloading it in a circular flow tube (OR-5). A guide tube is extended from the reactor core to the top of the reactor chimney for easily loading the target under the reactor normal operation. But active coolant through the core can be quickly raised up to the top of the chimney through the guide tube. The jet flow was suppressed in the guide tube after reducing the inner diameter of a flow restriction orifice installed in the OR-5 flow tube for adding the pressure difference in the flow tube after unloading the target. This paper describes an analytical analysis to calculate the flow distribution in the core of the HANARO after suppressing the jet flow of the guide tube. As results, it was confirmed through the analysis results that the flow distribution in the core of the HANARO were not adversely affected.

A Target Position Reasoning System for Disaster Response Robot based on Bayesian Network (베이지안 네트워크 기반 재난 대응 로봇의 탐색 목표 추론 시스템)

  • In this paper, we introduce a target position reasoning system based on Bayesian network that selects destinations of robots on a map to explore compound disaster environments. Compound disaster accidents have hazardous conditions because of a low visibility and a high temperature. Before firefighters enter the environment, the robots notify information in advance, such as victim's positions, number of victims, and status of debris of building. The problem of the previous system is that the system requires a target position to operate the robots and the firefighter need to learn how to use the robot. However, selecting the target position is not easy because of the information gap between eyewitness accounts and map coordinates. In addition, learning the technique how to use the robots needs a lot of time and money. The proposed system infers the target area using Bayesian network and selects proper x, y coordinates on the map based on image processing methods of the map. To verify the proposed system, we designed three example scenarios based on eyewetinees testimonies and compared time consumption between human and the system. In addition, we evaluate the system usability by 40 subjects.

  • This paper presents a multi-agent system for intelligent recommendation of travel plans to users. The goal of the system is to provide alternative and preferable travel plans to users when the availability of tickets is low such as in vacations, holidays, weekends, or peak seasons. The multiple agents in the system search for available alternatives for a target travel in collaboration with other agents and recommend best alternatives by analyzing them using a multi-criteria decision-making model. A prototype online travel support system was constructed and a simulation experiment was performed for evaluation and comparison with different travel planning strategies.

Design Strategy for Residential Complex based on Landscape Urbanism

  • In this study, we aim to suggest direction for landscape design of residential complex in Korea by studying target areas to understand how landscape urbanism was applied to residential landscape design as it is the majority of landscape design in Korea and by closely examining design elements to be considered for design of residential complex based on landscape urbanism theory. For the purpose of the study, some of public multifamily housing complex were selected as target areas and a survey was first conducted to understand how landscape urbanism was applied to design of these target areas. Then, by analyzing the survey results, we identified which elements were of importance to designing of multifamily housing complexes in Korea and how practical design of landscape urbanism works. From this study, we concluded that landscape urbanism theory is not just about design strategies, but more of comprehensive design methodology covering both operation and management and that such theory can be appropriately applied to design of multi-housing complexes in Korea. We also discovered that in order to apply landscape urbanism in design stage for multi-housing complex, selecting which design strategy/words in the previous study is not what's important, but comprehensive understanding and interpretation of design languages is key.

Optimal search plan for multiple moving targets with search priorities incorporated

  • This paper deals with a one-searcher multi-target search problem where targets with different detection priorities move in Markov processes in each discrete time over a given space search area, and the total number of search time intervals is fixed. A limited search resource is available in each search time interval and an exponential detection function is assumed. The searcher can obtain a target detection award, if detected, which represents the detection priority of target and is non-increasing with time. The objective is to establish the optimal search plan which allocates the search resource effort over the search areas in each time interval in order to maximize the total detection award. In the analysis, the given problem is decomposed into intervalwise individual search problems each being treated as a single stationary target problem for each time interval. An associated iterative procedure is derived to solve a sequence of stationary target problems. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees optimality.

  • This paper presents an image processing method for two dimensional position measurement of a floating structure. This method is based on image processing technique using concept of window and threshold processing to track the target object. The experimental results for position measurement of the target object in two dimensional water tank demonstrate the validity of this method.

A Study on the Noisy Speech Recognition Based on Multi-Model Structure Using an Improved Jacobian Adaptation (향상된 JA 방식을 이용한 다 모델 기반의 잡음음성인식에 대한 연구)

  • Various methods have been proposed to overcome the problem of speech recognition in the noisy conditions. Among them, the model compensation methods like the parallel model combination (PMC) and Jacobian adaptation (JA) have been found to perform efficiently. The JA is quite effective when we have hidden Markov models (HMMs) already trained in a similar condition as the target environment. In a previous work, we have proposed an improved method for the JA to make it more robust against the changing environments in recognition. In this paper, we further improved its performance by compensating the delta-mean vectors and covariance matrices of the HMM and investigated its feasibility in the multi-model structure for the noisy speech recognition. From the experimental results, we could find that the proposed improved the robustness of the JA and the multi-model approach could be a viable solution in the noisy speech recognition.

Collision Avoidance Path Planning for Multi-Mobile Robot System : Fuzzy and Potential Field Method Employed (멀티 모바일 로봇 시스템의 충돌회피 경로 계획 : 퍼지 및 포텐셜 필드 방법 적용)

  • In multi-mobile robot environment, path planning and collision avoidance are important issue to perform a given task collaboratively and cooperatively. The proposed approach is based on a potential field method and fuzzy logic system. For a global path planner, potential field method is employed to select proper path of a corresponding robot and fuzzy logic system is utilized to avoid collisions with static or dynamic obstacles around the robot. This process is continued until the corresponding target of each robot is reached. To test this method, several simulation-based experimental results are given. The results show that the path planning and collision avoidance strategies are effective and useful for multi-mobile robot systems.

Improved speech enhancement of multi-channel Wiener filter using adjustment of principal subspace vector (다채널 위너 필터의 주성분 부공간 벡터 보정을 통한 잡음 제거 성능 개선)

  • We present a method to improve the performance of the multi-channel Wiener filter in noisy environment. To build subspace-based multi-channel Wiener filter, in the case of single target source, the target speech component can be effectively estimated in the principal subspace of speech correlation matrix. The speech correlation matrix can be estimated by subtracting noise correlation matrix from signal correlation matrix based on the assumption that the cross-correlation between speech and interfering noise is negligible compared with speech correlation. However, this assumption is not valid in the presence of strong interfering noise and significant error can be induced in the principal subspace accordingly. In this paper, we propose to adjust the principal subspace vector using speech presence probability and the steering vector for the desired speech source. The multi-channel speech presence probability is derived in the principal subspace and applied to adjust the principal subspace vector. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves the performance of multi-channel Wiener filter in noisy environment.

A Study on Multi-cultural Education and Its Normative Orientation (다문화교육의 규범적 방향 모색)

  • Multi-culturalization in our society may be the cause of many problems, but if appropriately dealt with, diversity brought on by multi-culturalization could resolve chronic abuses in education and create a new culture, thereby contributing greatly to national development. The purpose of this study was to examine the current research on multi-cultural education and to provide a normative orientation to multi-cultural education. The literature research was conducted between March 2008 and September 2009. The followings are the findings of this study. First, the results reveal that the appropriate target of a multi-cultural society should not be assimilation, but rather, multi-culturalism. Multi-culturalism has greater adaptability, and the key lies in its respect for human rights, its strengthening of multi-cultural capacity, and its consideration for the minority by moving toward corporate multi-culturalism that aims for equality in results. Second, the first form of multi-cultural education emphasizes neutrality and argues that it is the best way to respect different cultures. This form of multi-cultural education emphasizes neutrality toward "sameness." In this context, sameness means equality of the rights of human beings. The other form of multi-cultural education emphasizes diversity and argues that it is the best way to respect different cultures. It focuses on the recognition of particularity. But it reveals its shortcomings when it excludes interaction not only between an individual and the culture, but also between the insider and outsider of the culture and its social institutions. Thus, multi-cultural education for mutual understanding is suggested. Third, it has been found that pure homogeneous nationalism must be destroyed, but nationalism needs to transform itself rather than be abolished in a globalized and multi-cultural society. Moreover, on behalf of pursuing open nationalism, the self-transformation of nationalism is advisable, in order to for it to overcome its antagonistic and exclusive nature.
