A simplified algorithm for conceptual estimation of the material quantities of rubble-mound breakwaters

  • A simplified algorithm is proposed for fast estimation of the material quantities required for the construction of rubble-mound breakwaters. The proposed algorithm is able to employ only the data available at feasibility study phase such as the maximum draught of the design ship selected to transport the cargos to the harbor despite, because at the feasibility phase, information for the planned harbor is likely to be very limited. A linear-constant waterdepth model together with a proposed section configuration for the breakwaters, which is customary for harbors, is considered to calculate the quantity of materials. The numerical simulation of the wave characteristics has been verified using the recorded wave data collected by a buoy installed near the Neka harbor in Caspian Sea waters. A case study has been also applied to four harbors to validate the proposed algorithm. The estimated weights using the proposed linear-constant and multi-linear waterdepth models were compared using the bathymetry maps and layouts of these harbors. A computer program, written in QBasic language, has been developed to simulate the wave characteristics and to estimate the material quantities needed to construct a rubble-mound breakwater. The obtained results show that taking into account the acceptable accuracies normally applied to the feasibility study and conceptual design phases, the proposed algorithm is sufficiently accurate and highly effective for the conceptual estimation of materials' quantities of breakwaters in the feasibility study phase of harbor projects.

Development of a mobile-based self-management health alarm program for obese children in South Korea and a test of its feasibility for metabolic outcomes: A study based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills model

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a mobile-based self-management health alarm (MSHA) program for modifying obese children's lifestyle based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model and to test its feasibility. Methods: A methodological study for the development of the MSHA program and pilot study with a one-group pretest-posttest design for feasibility testing was conducted. The MSHA program was designed to provide obesity-related information (I), monitor daily diet and exercise, provide motivational text messages (M), and enhance healthy diet and exercise skills (B) via a mobile-based web platform. In the feasibility test, six obese children participated in the 4-week program, and the number of days per week that they achieved their goals and differences in metabolic components were assessed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: Participants successfully achieved their diet and exercise goals≥5 days per week. Body mass index (z=-1.99, p=.046), waist circumference (z=-2.20, p=.028), and triglyceride levels (z=-2.21, p=.027) significantly decreased. Conclusion: The MSHA program showed positive effects on health behaviors and metabolic syndrome risk. The program may be effective in improving metabolic syndrome in obese children by promoting self-health management behaviors.

영농형 태양광 경제성 제고를 위한 정책 방안 (Policy Directions to Enhance Economic Feasibility of Agrivoltaics in Korea)

  • This study analyzes the economic feasibility of agrivoltaics in South Korea. The key findings are as follows. It was ascertained that an amendment to the Farmland Act, which currently has an 8-year permit period, is necessary to ensure the economic feasibility of agrivoltaic projects. Furthermore, economic feasibility improves when agrivoltaic projects are financed, as against cases without financing. Furthermore, the availability of low-interest loans through financial support programs significantly enhances economic feasibility. Scaling up projects leads to cost savings due to economies of scale, while community-based agrivoltaic initiatives generate higher revenue through the acquisition of additional Renewable Energy Certificates. These factors can help improve the economic feasibility of agrivoltaic projects. These incentives are emphasized as they can serve as a source of funding to foster community acceptance of agrivoltaic projects.

  • This study deals with replacement analysis of deteriorated equipment for improving productivity of production system. Frequent breakdown of the deteriorated equipment causes a situation that reduces productivity such as low product quality, process delay, and repair cost. However, the replacement of new equipment will be required a high initial investment cost, so it is important to analysis the economic feasibility. Therefore, we analyze the effect of the production system due to the aging effect of the equipment and the feasibility of equipment replacement based on the economic analysis. The process flow, working time, logistics movement, etc. are analyzed in order to build the simulation modeling for a ship and land switchboard production system. Using numerical examples, the economic feasibility analysis of equipment replacement through replacement of existing deteriorated equipment and additional arrangement of new facilities is performed.

농작업 대행사업 경제성 분석 - 나주시 봉황면 사례를 중심으로 - (An Economic Feasibility Analysis of Custom Work Service - Case of Bonghwang-myeon, Naju City -)

  • This study analyzed the feasibility of custom work service to deal with the imbalance of farm labor supply due to population aging. The economic feasibility analysis is based on the case of Bonghwang-myeon in Naju-si, where the majority of farm work is entrusted to local agricultural cooperative. To assess the project profitability and economic feasibility based on the projected cash flow for the next ten years, Return On Investment (ROI), Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of the projects were calculated. The results showed that ROI is estimated at 13.7%, and NPV and IRR are KRW 1,504,932,000 and 15.6%, respectively, with a discount rate of 4.5%, indicating a good enough profitability. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis with government support as part of an assumption showed that without the support, NPV turns negative, implying that the project is not profitable, and that government support for at least 30% of the cost is needed to secure the economic feasibility of a project. Hence, to promote agricultural work entrustment, it is necessary for the government to partly support the agricultural machinery and facility costs, which require a considerable amount of initial investment.

  • 경제성 분석에 의한 재무타당성 분석은 이론적으로나 실무적으로 그 타당성이 인정되고 있으나, 할인율 추정이 어려운 관계로 경제성 분석과 결과해석이 실무적으로 쉽지 않다. 따라서 본 연구는 신규호텔 건설 시 경제성 분석에 의한 재무타당성 분석의 구체적인 틀과 실무적용방법 및 기술을 제시하는데 근본적인 목적을 두고 연구하였다. 연구의 결과, 첫째, 대용베타방식에 의한 할인율(자본비용)을 실무적으로 추정하는 방식을 제시하여 경제성 분석결과에 대한 신뢰성과 타당성을 증대시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 할인율과 현금흐름을 이용한 경제성 분석기법(순현가법, 내부수익율법, 수익성지수법 등)에 의한 재무타당성 분석의 전체적인 틀을 설명할 수 있었다. 셋째, 재무타당성 분석의 각 단계에서 요구되는 실무적인 분석기술을 제시할 수 있었다.

  • North Korean market created by reunification of the Korean Peninsula is expected to serve as a new growth engine to the already-developed construction industry of South Korea. Improvement on deteriorated construction facility of North Korea is a project in urgent need at the initial stage of reunification. Prior to market entry of the Korean peninsula under these circumstances, economic feasibility analysis on construction technology application must be preceded by considering reunification period. Therefore, this study conducts an economic feasibility analysis on construction facility improvement project of North Korea considering application period of technology developed by South Korea. Results of this study are expected to be utilized in future reunification process as the basis for establishing relevant guidelines for construction facility improvement project of North Korea.

헤도닉 모델을 활용한 공동주택 리모델링 사업성 평가방법 (A Feasibility Study Method for Apartment Remodeling by Hedonic Model)

  • This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of remodeling business by predicting the future price of apartment house after remodeling using Hedonic Price Model. The data concerning such 8 independent variables as location, unit size, unit plan, landscape, parking, the number of elapsed years after completion, number of units, brand per apartment unit from 25 regions in Seoul metropolitan city were collected and evaluated by established evaluation criteria. The coefficients affecting the price of apartment unit were made by way of linear multi-regression and put into Hedonic Price Model. The feasibility evaluation model for apartment was made and verified by data of remodelled apartment. The predicted results using suggested evaluation model coincide with actual apartment market situations.

  • This study is about a feasibility study for the practical using Urban Transit Maglev system based on systems engineering. First of all we defined what phase is matched with the project for feasibility study in the system life cycle and identified tasks that shall be done in the phase. Finally we suggested how to do in this project. The Urban Transit Maglev system is not wholly new system. It has similar architecture to a legacy urban railway system. But it is the system that is partially introduced new technology, because there are many projects have this characteristic within the country, we expect that this study may provide references.

신기술개발을 위한 사전평가지표 개발 (Study on Assessment Indicators for the Development of Agricultural Technology Development)

  • 본 연구에서는 신기술 연구개발사업의 사전타당성 평가현황 및 개선방안에 대해 설명하였다. 농촌진흥청이 수행하고 있는 사전타당성 평가방법을 파악하고 이를 발전시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위해 국내외 여러 기관의 사전타당성 평가제도와 평가지표를 조사 분석하여 새롭게 사전타당성 평가지표를 구성하였다. 이렇게 하여 도출된 평가지표에는 기술성, 시장성, 사업성과 관련된 지표들이 새롭게 산출되었다. 이를 기본내용으로 설문지를 개발하고 응답내용을 통계처리하여 지표간의 비중을 설정하였다. 결과는 사업성이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 세부적으로 예산적절성, 신규성, 기술수요가능성, 상용화가능성의 타당성이 높게 나타났다. 이를 참고하여 사전평가지표의 운영프로세스에 대해 간략하게 제안하였다.
