Recently, particle filters have attracted attentions for nonlinear state estimation. They evaluate a posterior probability distribution of the state variable based on observations in simulation using so-called importance sampling. However, degeneracy phenomena in the importance weights deteriorate the filter performance. A new filter, Evolution Strategies Based Particle Filter, is proposed to circumvent this difficulty and to improve the performance. Numerical simulation results illustrate the applicability of the proposed idea.
Recently, particle filters have attracted attentions for nonlinear state estimation. In this approaches, a posterior probability distribution of the state variable is evaluated based on observations in simulation using so-called importance sampling. We proposed a new filter, Evolution Strategies based particle (ESP) filter to circumvent degeneracy phenomena in the importance weights, which deteriorates the filter performance, and apply it to simultaneous state and parameter estimation of nonlinear state space models. Results of numerical simulation studies illustrate the applicability of this approach.
Evolutionary algorithms are probabilistic optimization algorithms based on the model of natural evolution. Recently the efforts to improve the performance of evolutionary algorithms have been made extensively. In this paper, we introduce the research for improving the convergence rate and search faculty of evolution algorithms by using reinforcement learning. After providing an introduction to evolution algorithms and reinforcement learning, we present adaptive genetic algorithms, reinforcement genetic programming, and reinforcement evolution strategies which are combined with reinforcement learning. Adaptive genetic algorithms generate mutation probabilities of each locus by interacting with the environment according to reinforcement learning. Reinforcement genetic programming executes crossover and mutation operations based on reinforcement and inhibition mechanism of reinforcement learning. Reinforcement evolution strategies use the variances of fitness occurred by mutation to make the reinforcement signals which estimate and control the step length.
This paper presents the application of Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm to obtain a solution for Bid Based Dynamic Economic Dispatch (BBDED) problem including the transmission losses and to maximize the social profit in a deregulated power system. The IEEE-30 bus test system with six generators, two customers and two trading periods are considered under various bidding strategies in a day-ahead electricity market. By matching the bids received from supplying and distributing entities, the Independent System Operator (ISO) maximize the social profit, (with the choices available). The simulation results of DE are compared with the results of Particle swarm optimization (PSO). The results demonstrate the potential of DE algorithm and show its effectiveness to solve BBDED.
Oxygen evolution reaction is a critical bottleneck for the development of efficient electrochemical hydrogen production because of its sluggish reaction. Among various catalysts, transition metal-based layered double hydroxide has drawn significant attention due to their excellent catalytic properties and cost-effectiveness. This paper begins with basic crystal structures, and then conventional adsorbate evolution mechanism of layered double hydroxide. Strategies for enhancing catalytic properties based on adsorbate evolution mechanism and lattice oxygen mechanism that could surpass theoretical limit of adsorbate evolution mechanism are discussed. This paper ends with a brief discussion on the challenges and future directions of layered double hydroxide-based oxygen evolution reaction catalysts.
The environment of the access network service market is characterized by uncertain demand and various competing alternative technologies. In Korea, despite the introduction of competition, dominant Public Network Operator(PNO) still leads the market. Therefore, the decision of PNO has a great impact on the access network evolution. In this paper, we propose an model which aims to reduce risks and both investment and operating costs, to cope with the uncertain demand and technology evolution. We expect this model to provide a tool analyze risks and evaluate various strategies on the network evolution.
The electrochemical chlorine evolution reaction (CER) is an important electrochemical reaction and has been widely used in chlor-alkali electrolysis, on-site generation of ClO-, and Cl2-mediated electrosynthesis. Although precious metal-based mixed metal oxides (MMOs) have been used as CER catalysts for more than half a century, they intrinsically suffer from a selectivity problem between the CER and parasitic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Hence, the design of selective CER electrocatalysts is critically important. In this review, we provide an overview of the fundamental issues related to the electrocatalysis of the CER and design strategies for selective CER electrocatalysts. We present experimental and theoretical methods for assessing the active sites of MMO catalysts and the origin of the scaling relationship between the CER and the OER. We discuss kinetic analysis methods to understand the kinetics and mechanisms of CER. Next, we summarize the design strategies for new CER electrocatalysts that can enhance the reactivity of MMO-based catalysts and overcome their scaling relationship, which include the doping of MMO catalysts with foreign metals and the development of non-precious metal-based catalysts and atomically dispersed metal catalysts.
Usually, the Evolutionary Algorithms(EAs) are considered more efficient for optimal, system design because EAs can provide higher opportunity for obtaining the global optimal solution. This paper presents a mechanism of co-evolution consists of the two genetic algorithms(GAs). This mechanism includes host populations and parasite populations. These two populations are closely related to each other, and the parasite populations plays an important role of searching for useful schema in host populations. Host population represented by feedforward neural network and the result of co-evolution we will find the optimal structure of the neural network. We used the genetic algorithm that search the structure of the feedforward neural network, and evolution strategies which train the weight of neuron, and optimize the net structure. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method is exemplified on the stabilization and position control of the inverted-pendulum system.
