Development of an integrated approach for Algerian building seismic damage assessment

  • This paper presents a framework for seismic damage evaluation for Algerian buildings adapted from HAZUS approach (Hazard-United States). Capacity and fragility curves were adapted to fit the Algerian building typologies (Reinforced Concrete structures, Confined or Non-Confined Masonry, etc). For prediction purposes, it aims to estimate the damages and potential losses that may be generated by a given earthquake in a prone area or country. Its efficiency is validated by comparing the estimated and observed damages in Boumerd$\grave{e}$s city, in the aftermath of Boumerd$\grave{e}$s earthquake (Algeria: May $21^{st}$ 2003; $M_w$ = 6.8). For this purpose, observed damages reported for almost 3,700 buildings are compared to the theoretical predictions obtained under two distinct modelling of the seismic hazard. In one hand, the site response spectrum is built according to real accelerometric records obtained during the main shock. In the other hand, the effective Algerian seismic code response spectrum (RPA 99) in use by the time of the earthquake is considered; it required the prior fitting of Boumerd$\grave{e}$s site PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) provided by Ambraseys' attenuation relationship.

저전단변형율에서의 불포화화강풍화토의 동적 거동 (Dynamic Behavior of Unsaturated Decomposed Granite Soils under Low Shear Strain Amplitude)

  • 일반적인 구조물의 경우 사용하중 상태에서 지반이 경험하는 변형율 범위는 1% 미만이고 대부분의 지반이 0.01% 이하의 저변형율 거동을 나타내는 것으로 알려졌다. 본 연구는 불포화 화강풍화토의 저변형율에서의 동적 거동에 미치는 영향을 고찰하기 위하여 수원지역의 시료를 사용하여 간극비 및 구속응력을 달리하고 그에 따른 포화도별로 공진주시험을 시행하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 감쇠비의 최소값은 최대전단탄성 계수의 경우와 마찬가지로 구속압에 관계없이 간극비에 따라 대략 $17{\sim}18%$에서 발생하였으며, 이 또한 최적포화도에서 표면장력의 영향으로 감쇠비가 가장 작게 나타나는 것으로 판단된다.

  • This paper presents a RFM-based image matching algorithm which put constraints on the search space through the object-space approach. Also, the detail procedure of generating 3-D surface models from the RFM is introduced as an end-user point of view. The proposed algorithm provides the PML (Piecewise Matching Line) for image matching and reduces the search space to within the confined line-shape area.

  • Bond failure of reinforcing bar generally take place by splitting of the concrete cover as bond force between concrete and reinforcing bars exceeds the confinement of the concrete cover and reinforcement. However, the confinement force in practice has a limitation. Thus, the only variable is the bearing area corresponding to the change of bond force. In this study, to the evaluate anchorage strength of high relative rib area bars, hook bond test specimens are tested and the results are discussed. Higher rib height bars when bars are confined showed higher anchorage strength than lower rib higher bars.

염수로 충진된 낙동강 델타지역 피압대수층에서 담수주입에 의한 염수치환 연구 (Replacement of Saline Water through Injecting Fresh Water into a Confined Saline Aquifer at the Nakdong River Delta Area)

  • 염수로 충진된 부산시 낙동강 델타지역에 염수오염을 방지하고 지하수자원을 확보할 수 있는 인공함양 실증시설의 구축을 목적으로, 고심도 피압대수층에 담수 주입시험을 실시하였다. 연구지역은 두꺼운(두께 10~21 m) 점토층이 가압층으로 분포하며, 두꺼운 하부모래층(두께 31.5~36.5 m)과 자갈층(두께 2.8~11 m)이 주대수층을 이루는 피압대수층을 형성하고 있다. 시험 전 실시한 전기전도도(EC) 검층결과 연구지역은 약 7~44 mS/cm의 EC 분포를 보이며, 15~38 m 사이에 담수와 염수의 전이대가 존재하였다. 수온은 5 m 심도까지는 10~15.5℃이었으나, 5 m 심도부터는 15.5℃에서 50 m 심도까지 17℃로 일정하게 증가하고 있었다. 담수 주입시험에서 총 62시간 동안 370 m3/day의 주입유량으로 약 950 m3의 담수가 주입되었으며, 주입공 OW-5의 40 m 심도에서 CTD Diver를 이용하여 담수체의 형성을 확인하였다. 주입 후 EC 및 온도 검층을 통해 주입된 담수체가 24시간 이상 유지되는 것을 확인하였고, 21일 경과 후 실시한 검층에서도 담수체의 존속이 확인되었다. 또한 OW-5공 주입시험보다 20일전에 실시된 1차 주입시험 주입공 OW-2에서도 아직 담수체의 영향이 남아있는 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 OW-2와 5에 주입된 담수와 염수의 관계는 점이적이 아닌 뚜렷한 경계(Sharp Boundary)를 이루고 있었다. 따라서 주입된 담수가 염수 내에서 일정한 공간을 차지하며, 원상태의 수질을 상당기간 유지할 수 있다는 것을 파악하였다. 향후 인공함양 시설을 구축하여 장기적인 담수 주입을 통해 이 델타지역에 담수체를 형성시키는 실증연구를 수행한다면, 염수로 오염된 해안대수층을 대체수자원 확보의 공간으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • FRP 합성재료로 구속된 콘크리트의 응력-변형률 응답을 합리적으로 예측할 수 있는 해석모델이 제시되었다. 제안된 모델은 하중이 증가함에 따라 점진적으로 발생하는 미세균열에 의한 부피팽창이 미세재료구조의 손상을 나타내는 중요한 척도이며, 이에 손상정도에 따라 하중지지능력을 일관되게 산정할 수 있다는 기본개념에 근거한다. 이를 위하여 제안모델은 면적변형률 및 공극의 함수로 표시된 탄성계수, 팽창콘크리트와 구속매체의 상호작용을 나타내는 에너지 평형식, 변화하는 구속력 및 점증계산논리를 포함한다. 따라서 실험으로부터 유도된 팽창비 관계식으로부터 횡방향 혹은 부피팽창변형률을 산정하는 기존의 해석모델과는 달리 역학적 거동 및 에너지 평형식으로부터 연속적으로 변화하는 횡방향 변형률을 산정한다.

Description of The Geology of The Sangdong Tungsten Deposit with Suggestions for Further Exploration Using Geochemical Techniques

  • The Sangdong tungsten (mostly scheelite) mine is located on the southern limb of a major syncline, the Hambaeg syncline, in a thick sequence of lower Paleozoic sedimentary rocks in the mideastern part of south Korea. Productive scheelite mineralization in Sangdong area is confined to one single formation, the Myobong Slate. Four major ore beds, which have an lateral extension over than 1 km and were not heavily subjected to spatial disturbance, are developed in the Myobong Formation. The original materials of the ore-comprising horizones were probably of either calcareous or silceous sediments. The four ore beds, especially in the case of Main ore bed, display both lateral and vertical zoning. Association quartz-mica-scheelite is predominant in the central, while association hornblende-quartz-diopside-scheelite, diopside-garnet and wollastonite-garnet are developed in this order towards the periphery of the ore beds. Petrologically, two phases of thermometamorphism are recognized. The first phase is represented by the association wollastonite-garnet and diopside-garnet, while the second phase by the association hornblende-quartz-diopside-scheelite and quartz-mica-scheelite. The associations of the second phase do constitute prodctive ore. The high background value of tungsten in the area surrounding the Sangdong mine reveals that the area can be considered a geochemical zone enriched in tungsten. Studies on the trace element patterns were carried out to draw useful criteria for the purpose of future geochemical exploration in the area. The increasing trend of the ratio Rb $({\times}1000)/K_2O$ of the Myobong Slate towards the known mineralization area proved to be indicative for the presence of tungsten mineralization.

  • In Korea, characterized in most cases by limited area or high earth resistivity, it is likely to design narrow distances between grounding conductors, with a view to keeping ground resistance and touch voltage below the safety margin values. A new grounding method is suggested, making use of double meshes, to lower touch voltage in a confined area, since it is difficult to lay the plugs under the ground with narrow gaps between them on a limited site. For the presentation of a new model, the suggested grounding system has been analyzed and studied in ground resistance, touch voltage and step voltage, using IEEE Std. 80 calculations and computer simulations.

  • The interfacial area transport equation dynamically models the changes in interfacial structures along the flow field by mechanistically modeling the creation and destruction of dispersed phase. Hence, when employed in the numerical thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes, it eliminates artificial bifurcations stemming from the use of the static flow regime transition criteria. Accounting for the substantial differences in the transport mechanism for various sizes of bubbles, the transport equation is formulated for two characteristic groups of bubbles. The group 1 equation describes the transport of small-dispersed bubbles, whereas the group 2 equation describes the transport of large cap, slug or chum-turbulent bubbles. To evaluate the feasibility and reliability of interfacial area transport equation available at present, it is benchmarked by an extensive database established in various two-phase flow configurations spanning from bubbly to chum-turbulent flow regimes. The geometrical effect in interfacial area transport is examined by the data acquired in vertical fir-water two-phase flow through round pipes of various sizes and a confined flow duct, and by those acquired In vertical co-current downward air-water two-phase flow through round pipes of two different sizes.

구속압에 따른 셰일의 이방성 거동 (Anisotropic Behavior of the shale with Confined Pressure)

  • Foliated metamorphic, stratified sedimentary and regularity jointed rocks have properties(physical, mechanical) that vary with direction (${\beta}^{\circ}$) and are said to be anisotropic. The ground in Daegu area consists of shales, clastic sedimentary rocks. These shales have plane anisotropic or transversely isotropy characteristics. Engineering characteristics of shale in Daegu area are investigated by performing a series of rock test to the bedding(${\beta}$ =0, 30, 60, and 90 degrees). The results of tests show that the uniaxial compressive strength is a maximum at ${\beta}$ = 0, $90^{\circ}$ and is a minimum when ${\beta}$ is around 60 degree.
