  • An image processing algorithm is developed in order to recognize the type of cars, the position of a number plate and the characters on the plate. to recognize the type of cars, comparison of two images is used. One has a car image, the other is just a background image without car. After that recognition, a vertical line filter is used to find the location of the plate. Finally the simularity mehod is used to recognize the numbers on plates.

  • In this paper, we carried out recognition experiments for noisy speech having various levels of car noise and output of an audio system using the speech interface. The speech interface consists of three parts: pre-processing, acoustic echo canceller, post-processing. First, a high pass filter is employed as a pre-processing part to remove some engine noises. Then, an echo canceller implemented by using an FIR-type filter with an NLMS adaptive algorithm is used to remove the music or speech coming from the audio system in a car. As a last part, the MMSE-STSA based speech enhancement method is applied to the out of the echo canceller to remove the residual noise further. For recognition experiments, we generated test signals by adding music to the car noisy speech from Aurora 2 database. The HTK-based continuous HMM system is constructed for a recognition system. Experimental results show that the proposed speech interface is very promising for robust speech recognition in a noisy car environment.

  • Vehicle-logo recognition technology is very important in vehicle automatic recognition technique. The intended application is automatic recognition of vehicle type for secure access and traffic monitoring applications, a problem not hitherto considered at such a level of accuracy. Vehicle-logo recognition can improve Vehicle type recognition accuracy. So in this paper, introduces how to vehicle-logo recognition. First introduces the region of the license plate by algorithm and roughly located the region of car emblem based on the relationship of license plate and car emblem. Then located the car emblem with precision by the distance of Hausdorff. On the base, processing the region by morphologic, edge detection, analysis of connectivity and pick up the PCA character by lowing the dimension of the image and unifying the PCA character. At last the logo can be recognized using the algorithm of support vector machine. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of vehicle license plate recognition on PDA for illegal parking car regulation. we classified three kinds of vehicle license plates being used down to date since the introduction of each vehicle license Plate using features of each one. And we recognized vehicle license plates segmentation the AreaName, the AreaCode, the TypeCharacter and the Numbers. A 88.7% recognition accuracy was obtained through the experiment of the proposed vehicle license plate recognition system using the obtained images of PDA.

  • This paper describes the algorithm recognizing car type from the image received from UAV and the recognition results between three types of car images. Using the NCC(Normalized Cross-Correlation) algorithm, geometric information is matched from template images. Template images are obtained from UAV and satellite map and indoor experiment is performed using satellite map. After verification of the possibility, experiment for verification of same car type recognition is performed using small UAV. In the experiment, same type cars are matched with 0.6 point similarity and truck with similar color distribution is not matched with template image of a sedan.

  • In this paper, we implement the embedded speech recognition system to support various application services such as audio and video control using speech recognition interface on cars. The embedded speech recognition system is implemented and ported in a DSP board. Because MIC type and speech codecs affect the accuracy of speech recognition. And also, we optimize the simulation and test environment to effectively remove the real noises on a car. We applied a noise suppression and feature compensation algorithm to increase an accuracy of sppech recognition on a car. And we used a context dependent tied-mixture acoustic modeling. The performance evaluation showed high accuracy of proposed system in office environment and even real car environment.

Recognition of Car License Plates Using Difference Operator and ART2 Algorithm (차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 통합 인식)

  • In this paper, we proposed a new recognition method can be used in application systems using morphological features, difference operators and ART2 algorithm. At first, edges are extracted from an acquired car image by a camera using difference operators and the image of extracted edges is binarized by a block binarization method. In order to extract license plate area, noise areas are eliminated by applying morphological features of new and existing types of license plate to the 8-directional edge tracking algorithm in the binarized image. After the extraction of license plate area, mean binarization and mini-max binarization methods are applied to the extracted license plate area in order to eliminated noises by morphological features of individual elements in the license plate area, and then each character is extracted and combined by Labeling algorithm. The extracted and combined characters(letter and number symbols) are recognized after the learning by ART2 algorithm. In order to evaluate the extraction and recognition performances of the proposed method, 200 vehicle license plate images (100 for green type and 100 for white type) are used for experiment, and the experimental results show the proposed method is effective.

Proposal for License Plate Recognition Using Synthetic Data and Vehicle Type Recognition System (가상 데이터를 활용한 번호판 문자 인식 및 차종 인식 시스템 제안)

  • In this paper, a vehicle type recognition system using deep learning and a license plate recognition system are proposed. In the existing system, the number plate area extraction through image processing and the character recognition method using DNN were used. These systems have the problem of declining recognition rates as the environment changes. Therefore, the proposed system used the one-stage object detection method YOLO v3, focusing on real-time detection and decreasing accuracy due to environmental changes, enabling real-time vehicle type and license plate character recognition with one RGB camera. Training data consists of actual data for vehicle type recognition and license plate area detection, and synthetic data for license plate character recognition. The accuracy of each module was 96.39% for detection of car model, 99.94% for detection of license plates, and 79.06% for recognition of license plates. In addition, accuracy was measured using YOLO v3 tiny, a lightweight network of YOLO v3.

The Road Traffic Sign Recognition and Automatic Positioning for Road Facility Management (도로시설물 관리를 위한 교통안전표지 인식 및 자동위치 취득 방법 연구)

  • PURPOSES: This study is to develop a road traffic sign recognition and automatic positioning for road facility management. METHODS: In this study, we installed the GPS, IMU, DMI, camera, laser sensor on the van and surveyed the car position, fore-sight image, point cloud of traffic signs. To insert automatic position of traffic sign, the automatic traffic sign recognition S/W developed and it can log the traffic sign type and approximate position, this study suggests a methodology to transform the laser point-cloud to the map coordinate system with the 3D axis rotation algorithm. RESULTS: Result show that on a clear day, traffic sign recognition ratio is 92.98%, and on cloudy day recognition ratio is 80.58%. To insert exact traffic sign position. This study examined the point difference with the road surveying results. The result RMSE is 0.227m and average is 1.51m which is the GPS positioning error. Including these error we can insert the traffic sign position within 1.51m CONCLUSIONS: As a result of this study, we can automatically survey the traffic sign type, position data of the traffic sign position error and analysis the road safety, speed limit consistency, which can be used in traffic sign DB.
