  • The surface-to-air missile system using Command to Line-Of-Sight (CLOS) guidance law is represented by complex nonlinear differential equations with 6 degree-of-freedom. This paper presents the characterictics of missile system and the effect of various error sources by Monte-Carlo simulation method. By simulation the part of playing a main role in the surface-to-air missile system is radar. Therefore for the performance of missile system the development of the technique reducing the error of radar is required. And the effect of accelerometer error is a few large, too. But, because accelerometer costs cheap this problem is solved easily. And the main error source of missile system data is the thrust, which affects directly to acceleration. The result is the important information about designing and fabricating missile system. And this makes the missile system best because of sharing elaborate and expense effectively.

Evaluation of Hemiplegic Gait Using Accelerometer (가속도센서를 이용한 편마비성보행 평가)

  • The study aims to distinguish hemiplegic gait and normal gait using simple wearable device and classification algorithm. Thus, we developed a wearable system equipped three axis accelerometer and three axis gyroscope. The developed wearable system was verified by clinical experiment. In experiment, twenty one normal subjects and twenty one patients undergoing stroke treatment were participated. Based on the measured inertial signal, a random forest algorithm was used to classify hemiplegic gait. Four-fold cross validation was applied to ensure the reliability of the results. To select optimal attributes, we applied the forward search algorithm with 10 times of repetition, then selected five most frequently attributes were chosen as a final attribute. The results of this study showed that 95.2% of accuracy in hemiplegic gait and normal gait classification and 77.4% of accuracy in hemiplegic-side and normal gait classification.

  • In this study, we have figured out exercise time and the amount of burned calories, using a three-axis acceleration sensor which we name as a health sensor. What is more, the health sensor calculates the degree of physical exercise taken during exercise. As is generally known, continuing, regular exercise is far more effective than short time exercise for sustainable health management. The health sensor is, therefore, recommended as an instrument to efficiently carry out the health management. Additionally, the health sensor was applied as an exercise subsidiary system to walking and jumping rope tests. In light of their results, the sensor system was found useful for analyzing the pattern of exercise.

Simplified Observability Analysis of GPS/INS (GPS/INS 가관측성의 간편한 해석)

  • In this paper a study on the simplified observability analysis of GPS/INS is introduced. Errors for the position, velocity, attitude, gyro and accelerometer biases, and lever arm between GPS antenna and inertial sensors are considered in the observablity analysis. From the error dynamics model in which relatively small terms are neglected, simple observability conditions are obtained such that the observability of GPS/INS is determined by the test on the attutude, gyro bias, and lever arm. Unobservable errors for the position, velocity, and accelerometer bias are determined by those for the attitude, gyro bias, and lever arm. The simplified observability conditions are applied to a constant speed horizontal motion. It is shown that there are seven unobservable modes for the motion including the vertical component of gyro bias. The analytic observability analysis results are confirmed with a covariance simulation.

  • In this paper, a sensitivity of the gravity acceleration $(0{\sim}1G)$ for a fiber-optic accelerometer is demonstrated. A single mode optical fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer was used to detect the change in optical path length produced by the strain in the fiber from probe mass about 1 gram. The phase conversion gain of the piezoelectric cylinder in the reference arm with this system measures 0.88rad./v.

Acceleration Sensor Based Measurement and Noise Reduction of Dynamic Weights (가속도 센서에 기반한 동하중의 측정 및 잡음 감소)

  • Due to various types of errors added to dynamic weight measurement data, proper methods to reduce measurement errors are required to produce reliable weights. To cope with parasitic types of errors in real systems, information provided by the various sensors is utilized and combined in such a way to reduce the measurement errors of load cells. In addition to four channels of load cells from a trailer, an accelerometer is used to obtain the information to compensate the error induced from vertical movement of the vehicle due to the variation of ground level. A model trailer system is run to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method to reduce noise of dynamic weight measurements. Experiments show that the processed error magnitudes of less than 20 g can be obtained for 10 Kg experimental loads.

Comparison of dominant and nondominant handwriting with the signal of a three-axial accelerometer

  • Handwriting using the dominant and nondominant arms was analyzed in 52 young adults with the aid of a three-axial accelerometer. We measured a signal vector magnitude (SVM) and the percentage of the total signal vector magnitude (%TSVM) for the metacarpophalangeal joint (MCP), radial styloid process (RSP), and lateral epicondyle (LE) of both arms. The SVM for the MCP was lower in the dominant arm than the nondominant arm, whereas that for the RSP was higher. %TVSM was lower for the MCP than for the RSP and LE in the nondominant arm, but higher for the MCP than for the LE in the nondominant arm. These findings suggest that controlling the MCP will improve the quality of handwriting, including when using the nondominant arm.

  • Accelerometers are widely used to measure the lateral vibrations of pipe-like structures such as a gun tube under impulse loads. Stress waves that precede the lateral vibrations due to the explosion within a gun contribute little to the vibrations, but saturate the accelerometer input. A mechanical filter eliminates this high-frequency stress wave and only transmits the signal corresponding to the lateral vibrations. The mechanical filter consists of a mechanical structure for mounting the accelerometers and a damping material. The low-pass filter characteristics are determined from the equivalent damping and stiffness property of this damping material. In this paper, we tested nine commercially available damping materials for their vibration characteristics by using a test rig. We also observed the change in the vibration characteristics while compressing the material. We designed and manufactured a mechanical filter and verified its filtering performance.

A multitype sensor placement method for the modal estimation of structure

  • In structural health monitoring, it is meaningful to comprehensively utilize accelerometers and strain gauges to obtain the modal information of a structure. In this paper, a modal estimation theory is proposed, in which the displacement modes of the locations without accelerometers can be estimated by the strain modes of selected strain gauge measurements. A two-stage sensor placement method, in which strain gauges are placed together with triaxial accelerometers to obtain more structural displacement mode information, is proposed. In stage one, the initial accelerometer locations are determined through the combined use of the modal assurance criterion and the redundancy information. Due to various practical factors, however, accelerometers cannot be placed at some of the initial accelerometer locations; the displacement mode information of these locations are still in need and the locations without accelerometers are defined as estimated locations. In stage two, the displacement modes of the estimated locations are estimated based on the strain modes of the strain gauge locations, and the quality of the estimation is seen as a criterion to guide the selection of the strain gauge locations. Instead of simply placing a strain gauge at the midpoint of each beam element, the influence of different candidate strain gauge positions on the estimation of displacement modes is also studied. Finally, the modal assurance criterion is utilized to evaluate the performance of the obtained multitype sensor placement. A bridge benchmark structure is used for a numerical investigation to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multitype sensor placement method.

A Study on Accelerometer Based Motion Artifact Reduction in Photoplethysmography Signal (가속도계를 이용한 광전용적맥파의 동잡음 제거)

  • With the convergence of ubiquitous networking and medical technologies, ubiquitous healthcare(U-Healthcare) service has come in our life, which enables a patient to receive medical services at anytime and anywhere. In the u-Healthcare environment, intelligent real-time biosignal aquisition/analysis techniques are inevitable. In this study, we propose a motion artifact cancelation method in portable photoplethysmography(PPG) signal aquisition using an accelerometer and an adaptive filter. A preliminary experiment represented that the component of the pedestrian motion artifact can be found under 5Hz in the spectral analysis. Therefore, we collected PPG signals under both simulated conditions with a motor that generates circular motion with uniform velocity (from 1 to 5Hz) and a real walking condition. We then reduced the motion artifact using a recursive least square adaptive filter which takes the accelerometer output as a noise reference. The results showed that the adaptive filter can remove the motion artifact effectively and recover peak points in PPG signals, which represents our method can be useful to detect heart rate in real walking condition.
