This work introduces a modal testing and analysis results of the mock-up for a layered stone pagoda. The pagoda has been horizontally excited by an impact hammer. As to the measured acceleration time responses, the first five lower mode shapes and natural frequency are extracted by the TDD technique. It is observed that the time delay of a shear wave occurs through friction surfaces. Such phenomena cannot be described by using the traditional analytical models such as a continuum cantilever beam model or a discrete shear building model. However, the time delay typically affects only the phases of the pagoda system. The frequencies of the pagoda system are not affected by such time delay. It is found in the first time that the layered stone pagoda system has a set of closely placed modes in near of natural frequency. It is believed that such modes are due to the friction characteristics in friction surfaces. Based on the stick-slip friction model, it seems that the one of the closely placed mode can be a self-excited one.

In this study, the Non-Destructive Testing Equipment was introduced for the compaction control and the evaluation of pavements properties and the developing process was showed. Falling Weight Deflectometer(FWD) is a system for performing non-destructive testing of pavement and the other foundation structures. The system develops forces from the acceleration caused by the arrest of a falling weight and these forces are transmitted onto the surface of a structure causing it to deflect much as it would due to the weight of a passing wheel load. The structure will bend downward and exhibit a deflection basin. FWD uses a set of velocity sensors to determine the amplitude and shape of the deflection basin. The deflection response, when related to the applied loading, can provide information about the strength and condition of the various elements of the test structure. In this study, a computer program was developed that can be used to evaluate pavement and foundation structures from the data produced by FWD. The Falling Weight Deflectometer, non-destructive testing equipment, is increasing used at the whole world.

The phased array antenna has the ability to perform adaptive sampling by directing the radar beam without inertia in any direction. The adaptive sampling capability of the phased array antenna allows each sampling time interval to be varied for each target, depending on the acceleration of each target at any time. In this paper we design a three dimensional adaptive target tracking algorithm for the phased array radar system with a given set of measurement parameters. The tracking algorithm avoids taking unnecessarily frequent samples, while keeping the angular prediction error within a fraction of antenna beamwidth so that the probability of detection will not be degraded during a track updata illuminations. In our algorithm, the target model and the sampling rate are selected depending on the target range and the target maneuver status which is determined by a maneuver level detector. A detailed simulation is conducted to test the validity of our tracking algorithm for target trajectories under various conditions of maneuver.
A study has been made on how to occur inertial oscillations in a rotating flow. The flow is considered to be induced by differentially-rotating top and bottom disks with infinite radius. The top and bottom disks are assumed to be set in motion over a finite initial start-up time duration from initial solid body rotation ($\Omega$) to each finial state, i.e., the top disk is rotating at the angular velocity (${\Omega}+{\Delta}{\Omega}$) and the bottom disk (${\Omega}-{\Delta}{\Omega}$). The system Reynolds number, which is a reciprocal of conventional Ekman number in rotating flows, is very high so that a boundary layer flow near disks is pronounced. From a strict theoretical analysis, it is clearly found the fact that inertial oscillation in a rotating flow is caused by excessive input of torque during start-up phase. Above finding comes from the following physics of theoretical result: in the case of abrupt start-up within very shorter time-duration than spin-up time scale, the inertial oscillation is magnified but it could be completely depressed in the case of mildly accelerated start-up, i.e., start-up process being established over diffusion time scale.

A numerical investigation of stage separation behavior of a two-body vehicle focusing on its flow characteristics is carried out. For this simulation, the separation of a booster from a vehicle is modeled using a chimera grid system and calculated with commercial code, $CFD-FASTRAN^{TM}$. Consideration of spring force, gravity and relative acceleration of a booster is the essential factor of a realistic simulation. In this study, it is validated that the booster separation time decreases with an increase in flight Mach number and angle of attack. In view of results thus far achieved, it is expected that the dynamics modeling and boundary condition set-up applied in this study will be useful for estimating safe stage separation and event sequencing of flight tests.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the interrelationship between ranges of motion of the knee and ankle joints on the sagittal plane and the attenuation magnitude of impact shock at high frequency (9~20 Hz) in the support phase during downhill running. Method: Fifteen male heel-toe runners with no history of lower extremity injuries were recruited for this study (age, $25.07{\pm}5.35years$; height, $175.4{\pm}4.6cm$; mass, $75.8{\pm}.70kg$). Two uniaxial accelerometers were mounted to the tuberosity of tibia and sacrum, respectively, to measure acceleration signals. The participants were asked to run at their preferred running speed on a treadmill set at $0^{\circ}$, $7^{\circ}$, and $15^{\circ}$ downhill. Six optical cameras were placed around the treadmill to capture the coordinates of the joints of the lower extremities. The power spectrum densities of the two acceleration signals were analyzed and used in the transfer function describing the gain and attenuation of impact shock between the tibia and the sacrum. Angles of the knee and ankle joints on the sagittal plane and their angle ranges were calculated. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to test the relationship between two variables, the magnitude of impact shock, and the range of joint angle under three downhill conditions. The alpha level was set at .05. Results: Close correlations were observed between the knee joint range of motion and the attenuation magnitude of impact shock regardless of running slopes (p<.05), and positive correlations were found between the ranges of motion of the knee and ankle joints and the attenuation magnitude of impact shock in $15^{\circ}$ downhill running (p<.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, increased knee flexion might be required to attenuate impact shock during downhill and level running through change in stride or cadence while maintaining stability, and strong and flexible ankle joints are also needed in steeper downhill running.
A number of sensing techniques have been implemented for detecting defects in civil infrastructures instead of onsite human inspections in structural health monitoring. However, the issue of faults in sensors has not received much attention. This issue may lead to incorrect interpretation of data and false alarms. To overcome these challenges, this article presents a deep learning-based method with a new architecture of Stateful Long Short Term Memory Neural Networks (S-LSTM NN) for detecting sensor fault without going into details of the fault features. As LSTMs are capable of learning data features automatically, and the proposed method works without an accurate mathematical model. The detection of four types of sensor faults are studied in this paper. Non-stationary acceleration responses of a three-span continuous bridge when under operational conditions are studied. A deep network model is applied to the measured bridge data with estimation to detect the sensor fault. Another set of sensor output data is used to supervise the network parameters and backpropagation algorithm to fine tune the parameters to establish a deep self-coding network model. The response residuals between the true value and the predicted value of the deep S-LSTM network was statistically analyzed to determine the fault threshold of sensor. Experimental study with a cable-stayed bridge further indicated that the proposed method is robust in the detection of the sensor fault.
Considering the history of severe earthquakes and the presence of active faults in the greater Tehran region, the possibility of a destructive earthquake occurring is high and seismic hazard analysis is crucial. Gumbel distributions are commonly-used statistical distributions in earthquake engineering and seismology. Their main advantage is their basis on the largest earthquake magnitudes selected from an equal-time predefined set. In this study, the first asymptotic distribution of extremes is used to estimate seismicity parameters and peak ground acceleration (PGA). By assuming a Poisson distribution for the earthquakes, after estimation of seismicity parameters, the mean return period and the probable maximum magnitude within a given time interval are obtained. A maximum probable magnitude of 7.0 has a mean return period of 100 years in this region. For a return period of 475 years, the PGA in the greater Tehran region is estimated to be 0.39g to 0.42g, depending on local site conditions. This value is greater than that of the Iranian Code for Seismic Design of Buildings, indicating that a revision of the code is necessary.

When a vehicle is running, wheel is generating vertical and lateral force on the rail, in addition to load of vehicle, through a complicated set of motions. The derailment coefficient refers to the ratio of lateral force to vertical force(wheel load), and if the value exceeds a certain level, a wheel climbs or jumps over the rail. That's why the value is used as a criterion for running safety. Derailment coefficient of rolling stocks alters according to shape of rail track. I measured three-dimensional angular velocity and acceleration to use 3D Motion Tracker. Test result, derailment coefficient of rolling stocks and shape of rail track examined closely that have fixed relation. Specially, was proved that roll motion has the close coupling relation.

Conventional inertial measurement units cannot be used in the spinning vehicle with high rotation rate due to gyro's narrow operation range. By the way, angular acceleration can be measured using the accelerometer array distributed in the vehicle. This paper derives a mechanization for the gyro-free INS in the navigation frame, and proposes a gyro-free INS algorithm based on the derived mechanization. In addition, the proposed algorithm is used to estimate angular velocity, attitude, velocity, and position of a spinning vehicle with high rotation rate. A MATLAB-based software platform is configured in order to show validation of the proposed algorithm. The reference trajectory of a spinning vehicle at 3 round per second, 30 round per second are set up, and the outputs of accelerometer are generated when triads of accelerometer are located at the origin and all the axes. Navigation results of the proposed algorithm for the generated output are presented. The results show that the proposed navigation algorithm can be applied to the spinning vehicle with high rotation rate.
