$ZnMn_2O_4$ has been prepared by a mechanochemical process using a mixture of $Mn_2O_3$ and ZnO as starting materials, and investigated as a possible anode material for lithium-ion batteries. The phase evolution and morphologies of the ball-milled and annealed powders are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive microanalysis (EDX), respectively. The solid-state reaction for the formation of $ZnMn_2O_4$, under the given experimental conditions, is achieved in a short time (30 min), and the prepared samples exhibit excellent electrochemical performances including an enhanced initial coulombic efficiency, high reversible capacity, and stable capacity retention with cycling.
The dissolution amount of Zn plate was $0.058mg/cm^2$ in the non-magnetically treated solution, and was $0.059mg/cm^2$ in the magnetically treated solution after 24 hours of immersion. The magnetic treatment had no effect to corrosion of Zn plate as pH on surface was not recognized the difference. The addition of Zn(II) ion in the solution was prepared to the effects of corrosion and dissolution of Fe. The regularity was not obtained the effect of the magnetic treatment on the dissolution of Fe plate.

In this study, zinc oxide(ZnO) having large misfit(18.2%) with sapphire was tried to be grown on very thin nitride buffer layers. For the creation of various kinds of nitride buffer layer, sapphire surface was modified by an irradiation of nitrogen ion beam with low energy generated from stationary plasma thruster(SPT) at room temperature. After the irradiation of ion beam, Al-N and Al-O-N bonding was identified to be formed as nitride buffet layers. Surface morphology was measured by AFM and then ZnO growth was followed by pulsed laser deposition(PLD). Their properties are analyzed by XRD, AFM, TEM, and PL. We observed that surface morphology was improved and deep level emission related to defects was almost vanished in PL spectra from the ZnO grown on nitride buffer layer.
Although siderophore compounds are mainly biosynthesized as a response to iron deficiency in the environment, they also bind with other metals. A few studies have been conducted on the impact of heavy metals on the siderophore-mediated iron uptake by microbiome. Here, we investigated siderophore production by a variety of rhizosphere fungi under different concentrations of $Zn^{2+}$ ion. These strains were specifically isolated from the rhizosphere of Panax ginseng (Korean ginseng). The siderophore production of isolated fungi was investigated with chrome azurol S (CAS) assay liquid media amended with different concentrations of $Zn^{2+}$ (50 to $250{\mu}g/ml$). The percentage of siderophore units was quantified using the ultra-violet (UV) irradiation method. The results indicated that high concentrations of $Zn^{2+}$ ion increase the production of siderophore in iron-limited cultures. Maximum siderophore production by the fungal strains was detected at $Zn^{2+}$ ion concentration of $150{\mu}g/ml$ except for Mortierella sp., which had the highest siderophore production at $200{\mu}g/ml$. One potent siderophore-producing strain (Penicillium sp. JJHO) was strongly influenced by the presence of $Zn^{2+}$ ions and showed high identity to P. commune (100% using 18S-rRNA sequencing). The purified siderophores of the Penicillium sp. JJHO strain were chemically identified using UV, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF-MS) spectra.
In this paper, synthesis of terephthalate intercalated Zn-Al: Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) was studied. We designed freestanding Zn-Al: carbonate LDH nanosheets for a facile exchange technique. The as-prepared Zn-Al carbonate LDHs were converted to terephthalate intercalated Zn-Al:LDHs by ion exchange method. Initially, Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films were deposited on p-Si (001) by facing target sputtering. For synthesis of free standing carbonate Zn-Al:LDH, we dipped the AZO thin film in naturally carbonated water for 3 hours. Further, Zn-Al: carbonate LDH nanosheets were immersed in terepthalic acid (TA) solution. The ion exchange phenomena in the terephthalate assisted Zn-Al:LDH were confirmed using FT-IR analysis. The crystal structure of terephthalate intercalated Zn-Al:LDH was investigated by XRD pattern analysis with different mole concentrations of TA solution and reaction times. The optimal conditions for intercalation of terephthalate from carbonated Zn-Al LDH were established using 0.3 M aqueous solution of TA for 24 hours.

Trace mineral studies involving metal ion chelators have been conducted in investigating the response of gene and protein expressions of certain cell lines but a few had really focused on how these metal ion chelators could affect the availability of important trace minerals such as Zn, Mn, Fe and Cu. The aim of the present study was to investigate the availability of Zn for the treatment of MC3T3-E1 osteoblast-like cells and the availability of some trace minerals in the cell culture media components after using chelexing resin in the FBS and the addition of N,N,N',N'-tetrakis-(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine (TPEN, membrane-permeable chelator) and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA, membrane-impermeable chelator) in the treatment medium. Components for the preparation of cell culture medium and Zn-treated medium have been tested for Zn, Mn, Fe and Cu contents by atomic absorption spectrophotometer or inductively coupled plasma spectrophotometer. Also, the expression of bone-related genes (ALP, Runx2, PTH-R, ProCOL I, OPN and OC) was measured on the cellular Zn depletion such as chelexing or TPEN treatment. Results have shown that using the chelexing resin in FBS would significantly decrease the available Zn (p<0.05) $(39.4{\pm}1.5{\mu}M\;vs\;0.61{\pm}10.15{\mu}M)$ and Mn (p<0.05) $(0.74{\pm}0.01{\mu}M\;vs\;0.12{\pm}0.04{\mu}M)$. However, levels of Fe and Cu in FBS were not changed by chelexing FBS. The use of TPEN and DTPA as Zn-chelators did not show significant difference on the final concentration of Zn in the treatment medium (0, 3, 6, 9, $12{\mu}M$) except for in the addition of higher $15{\mu}M\;ZnCl_2$ which showed a significant increase of Zn level in DTPA-chelated treatment medium. Results have shown that both chelators gave the same pattern for the expression of the five bone-related genes between Zn and Zn+, and TPEN-treated experiments, compared to chelex-treated experiment, showed lower bone-related gene expression, which may imply that TPEN would be a stronger chelator than chelex resin. This study showed that TPEN would be a stronger chelator compared to DTPA or chelex resin and TPEN and chelex resin exerted cellular zinc depletion to be enough for cell study for Zn depletion.

The atmospheric corrosIOn properties of Zinc (Zn) under wet/dry transition of $H_20$ film were investigated in this study. The atmospheric corrosion of metal is usually occurred as a result of repetitious thickness transition (so called wet/dry transition) of liquid phase which is covering the metal surface. Corrosion potential and the polarization behaviour of Zn during liquid film thickness transition were measured by Kelvin probe method which IS using vibrating reference electrode without touching the liquid film. The oxidized states of Zn as a result of successive wet/dry transition were also investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that the corrosion potential and the corrosIOn rate of Zn both are increasing during drying. However, the corrOSIon rate is decreasing again when the Zn surface is completely dried while the corrosion potential still remains high. This behaviour can be explained by the polarization behaviour change of Zn according to the $H_20$ film thickness change. The completely dried surface is consisted mostly with Zn and ZnO phases. After a number of cycles of wet/dry transition, however, the oxidized Zn phase of ${\varepsilon}-Zn(OH)_2$, which has rather voluminous and defected structure, were found.
Material of the gasket for lithium ion battery requires the chemical resistance, the electrical insulting property, the compression set, the anti-contamination level and the low temperature resistance. We compounded ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), which showed widely different solubility parameter index, with adjusting the amount of metal oxide as an activator. We did long-term test and compression set against an electrolyte with consideration for operating conditions in lithium-ion battery. In these tests, we checked the physical, chemical characteristics and the effect to lithium ion battery with different kinds of activators. In case of rubber with ZnO as an activator, through 1000 h depositing test in propylene carbonate which is one of representative solvents, we could get the satisfying characteristics and result. However, $Zn^{2+}$ had eluted in the ion elution test. So, ZnO should be limited in EPDM compound for the gasket material in lithium-ion battery.
We have used PET chemosensors in the determination of N-carbamoylglycine. When N-carbam-oylglycine reacts with complex already made by the fluorophore and metal ion, the luminescence intensity can be changed and this phenomenon can be utilized in quantification. We used three metal ions, $Zn^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ and in order to investigate selectivity an acetic acid was used. $Ni^{2+}$ ion showed change in the eT mechanism by the anions. $Cu^{2+}$ ion showed the ability to distinguish N-carbamoylglycine from an acetic acid and it is noteworthy that $Zn^{2+}$ ion can change luminescence sensitively according to concentration.
