  • In this study, the bis(8-oxyquinolino)zinc II (Znq$_2$) were synthesized successfully from zinc chloride (ZnC1$_2$) as a initial material. Then, we fabricated red organic electroluminescent device with a dye (DCJTB)-doped and inserted Znq$_2$ between emission layer and cathode layer for increasing EL efficiency. The hole transfer layer is a N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis-(3-methyl phenyl) -1,1'-diphenyl-4,4'- diamine(TPD), and the host material of emission layer is Znq$_2$. And we study the electrical and optical properties of devices. We found that the device using Znq$_2$ inserting layer result in the increased efficiency.

  • Aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) thin films have been prepared on the glass substrates (Corning 1737) by sol-gel dip-coating method employing zinc acetate and aluminum chloride hexahydrate for the transparent conducting oxide (TCO) applications. 1 at% Al was doped to the ZnO thin films. The effects of post-heating temperature on the crystallization, optical and electrical properties of the AZO films have been investigated. Experimental results showed that post-heating temperature affected the microstructure, electrical resistance, and optical transmittance of the AZO films. From the X-ray diffraction analysis, all films have hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure. Optical transmittance spectra of the AZO films exhibited transmittance higher than about 80% within the visible wavelength region and the optical direct band gap ($E_g$) of these films was increased with increasing post-heating temperature. A minimum resistivity of $2.5{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$ was observed at $650^{\circ}C$.

  • Solvent extraction reaction of Zn(II) by Alamine336 from strong HCl solution up to 10 M was identified by analyzing the data reported in the literature. The equilibrium constant of this reaction was estimated by considering the complex formation between zinc and chloride ion. The necessary thermodynamic parameters, such as equilibrium constant for the formation of complexes and the interaction parameters, were evaluated from the thermodynamic data reported in the literature. The following solvent extraction reaction and the equilibrium constant was obtained by considering the activity coefficients of solutes present in the aqueous phase with Bromley equation. $Zn^{2+}\;2Cl^{-}\;+\;R_3NHCl_{org}\;=\;ZnCl_3R_3NH_{org},\;K_{ex}\;=\;6.33\;{\times}\;10^2$ There was a good agreement between measured and calculated distribution coefficients of Zn(II).

  • The effect of the polyethyledglycol(PEG) on the surface morphology and crystal orientation of electrodeposited zinc from a chloride (1.5M Zinc+7.0M chloriode) have been studied by means of electrochemical methodes, scanning electron microscopy, surface appearance measurement and X-ray diffraction patterns. The resistance of electrodeposit increased, whereas the evolution of hydrogen decreased with incrasing of molecular weight of the PEG. Large grains of electrodeposit were obtained from bath in the absence of organid additive. When the PEG was added, fine grained crystals were observed and the surface roughness was relatively small, but surface appearance deteriorated. The preferred orientation with a(101) plane parallel to the surface was obtained from the PEG addited bath.

  • Zinc is an endogenous transition metal that can be synaptically released during neuronal activity. However, zinc may contribute to the neuropathology associated with a variety of conditions. Carnosine expressed in glial cells can modulate the effects of zinc on neuronal excitability as a zinc chelator. We hypothesize that carnosine may protect against neurotoxicity of zinc in cortical neuronal cells. The cortical neuronal cells from newborn rats were prepared and exposed to zinc chloride and/or carnosine at various concentrations. Zinc at the doses of 0 to $500{\mu}M$ decreased neuronal cell viability in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, at the concentrations of 100 and $200{\mu}M$, it significantly decreased cell viability in an exposed time-dependent manner (p < 0.05). Treatment with carnosine at the concentrations of 20 and $200{\mu}M$ significantly increased neuronal cell proliferation by approximately 14% and 20%, respectively, compared to the control (p < 0.05). At the concentrations of 100 and $200{\mu}M$ zinc, $20{\mu}M$ carnosine significantly increased the viability of neuronal cells by 18.3% and 12.1 %, and $200{\mu}M$ carnosine also increased it by 33.5% and 28.6%, respectively, compared to the normal control group (p < 0.01). These results suggest that carnosine at a physiologically relevant level may protect against zinc-mediated toxicity in neuronal cells as an endogenous neuroprotective agent.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary zinc (Zn) and/or cadmium (Cd) on hepatic microsomal and cytosol enzyme activities. Male Spraque-Dawley rats (110$\pm$10g ) received zinc (0, 30 and 300 ppm/) and Cd-treated groups were administered oral intubation with Cd chloride (5.0mg/kg of body weight 0 at the same time once a week. The effect of Cd on the activity of hepatic cytochromep-450 , xanthine oxidase(X. O) and superoxide dismutase (SOd) was studied in rats. Cd oral intubation resulted in a decrease in cytochrome P-450 content and SOD activity whereas a significant increase in the X.O. activity was observed was observed . Intake of excessive Zn led to an increased activity of microsomal alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) , whereas Zn deficiency group led to a decreased group. The mechanism by which Zn induces the decreasing of Cd toxicity in rats, seems to rely on the protection of the enzyme systems P-450, ADH, aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) and X.O. in the liver, possibly by forming non-toxic Cd metallothionein. These results indicate that Zn and Cd regulation might occur via inhibitory protein component of the $H_2O$$_2$ -generator system.

  • We identify the enhancement effects of zinc chloride and liquid nitrogen on low quality ninhydrin-developed fingerprint and we wanted to find out another cooling methods available for ninhydrin/Zn fingerprint enhancement besides the liquid nitrogen, which is hard to access. Artificial sweat was used to make the same level of fingerprints, and fingerprints developed by each technique were evaluated by SWGFAST standard and compared the average score and standard deviation. As a result of the experiment, ninhydrin/Zn-liquid nitrogen got 3.2 and 3.3 as average scores that enough to identify an individual such as 1,2-IND/Zn or DFO. Also, experiments using dry ice instead of liquid nitrogen as a way of the ninhydrin/Zn-developed fingerprints enhancement resulted in 3.0 and 2.9 as average scores, therefore, it was confirmed that dry ice is also a sufficient cooling method to be considered in practice in the field of forensic science.
