A Study of an Efficient ZigBee Address Assignment Scheme for Home Area Networks of Smart Grid

  • In Home Area Network (HAN) of the smart grid, Power Line Communication (PLC) technology and ZigBee communication technology can be used in the communication among the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices. However, according to performance evaluation results of the PLC technology, we find that using the PLC technology is unsuitable for the remote meter reading service. It is worth noting that some parts of the PLC are converted to the ZigBee communication technology in Jeju, Korea. Compared with PLC, ZigBee has no restriction of the place, where the equipments can be freely set up, due to the advantage of radio communication. However, number of usable devices will impact the network performance which is depended on the address assignment. In addition, due to the restriction of transmission range among devices, it is difficult to apply the ZigBee address assignment method to the practical circumstance. In this paper, we examine the previous ZigBee address assignment schemes and the corresponding routing algorithms, and propose a novel address assignment scheme compared with the existing methods, the performance of the proposed one is improved. In particular, evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the average number of hop count, the transfer time and the processing time.

  • The WBAN technology means a short distance wireless network which provides each device interactive communication by connecting devices inside and outside of body. Standardization on the physical layer, data link layer, network layer and application layer is in progress by IEEE 802.15.6 TG BAN. Wireless body area network is usually configured in energy efficient using sensor and zigbee device due to the power limitation and the characteristics of human body. Wireless sensor network consist of sensor field and sink node. Sensor field are composed a lot of sensor node and sink node collect sensing data. Wireless sensor network has capacity of the self constitution by protocol where placed in large area without fixed position. In this paper, we proposed the efficient addressing scheme for improving the performance of routing algorithm by using ZigBee in WBAN environment. A distributed address allocation scheme used an existing algorithm that has wasted in address space. Therefore proposing x, y and z coordinate axes from divided address space of 16 bit to solve this problems. Each node was reduced not only bitwise but also multi hop using the coordinate axes while routing than Cskip algorithm. I compared the performance between the standard and the proposed mechanism through the numerical analysis. Simulation verified performance about decrease averaging multi hop count that compare proposing algorithm and another. The numerical analysis results show that proposed algorithm reduced the multi hop better than ZigBee distributed address assignment

An Effective addressing assignment method and Its Routing Algorithm in Smart Grid Environments (스마트그리드 환경에서 효율적인 주소 할당 방법과 라우팅 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we proposed the efficient addressing scheme for improving the performance of routing algorithm by using ZigBee in Smart Grid environment. In a 16-bit address space and the network size of a few thousands, it is very unlikely to suffer from frequent address collisions. In response, we propose an elegant (x, y, z) coordinate axes addressing scheme from divided address space of 16 bit and its routing algorithm. One of disadvantages of (x, y) coordinate axes addressing, however, is that any router may not hold as many children as proposed, since sensor nodes tend to be connected to a geographically nearby router. We also present an adaptive routing algorithm for location-aware routing algorithms, using our addressing scheme. As a result, each node was reduced not only bitwise but also multi hop using the coordinate axes while routing and the effective address assignment and routing is to minimize the average energy consumption of each node in the network.

  • Smart Grid is the next-generation intelligent power grid that maximizes energy efficiency with the convergence of IT technologies and the existing power grid. Smart Grid is created solution for standardization and interoperability. Smart Grid industry enables consumers to check power rates in real time for active power consumption. It also enables suppliers to measure their expected power generation load, which stabilizes the operation of the power system. Smart industy was ecolved actively cause Wireless communication is being considered for AMI system and wireless communication using ZigBee sensor has been applied in various industly. In this paper, we proposed efficient addressing scheme for improving the performance of the routing algorithm using ZigBee in Smart Grid environment.   • 최근 애드혹 네트워크에서 신뢰성과 확장성을 고려하여 메쉬 라우팅의 지원이 요구되고 있으며 IEEE 802.15.5의 Low-rate WPAN Mesh 와 ZigBee alliance에서 AODV를 기반으로 한 메쉬 라우팅이 대표적이다. IEEE 802.15.5 Low-rate WPAN Mesh의 경우 메쉬 라우팅을 위해 hello command의 주기적인 브로드캐스팅이 필요한데 이는 네트워크를 구성하는 노드의 밀집도가 증가할 경우 그 부하가 기하급수적으로 증가하게 된다. 또한 ZigBee alliance의 AODV 기반 메쉬 라우팅 기법도 RREQ 메시지의 브로드캐스팅에 기반하고 있기 때문에 경로 설정을 위한 제어 트래픽의 부하가 매우 크다는 단점을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 TDMA 네트워크에서 TDMA MAC의 특성과 토폴로지 기반으로 할당된 주소를 활용한 메쉬 라우팅 알고리즘의 설계를 제안한다.

  • ZigBee is the low power, low cost and low data rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) standard. The Directed-Messaging is the protocol which improves the energy efficiency through reducing the redundant message transmission by transmitting messages with directional information toward the specified sub-network area in wireless sensor network using broadcasting. In this paper, we design and implement the experimental grid sensor network using ZigBee modified by the Directed-Messaging for the energy efficiency improvement. The experimental sensor network in this paper is configured with Nano24 supporting the ADV message and the routing management module modified to use the directional information. The energy efficiency improvement of the experimental sensor-network by evaluating the experimental results according to transmitting ADV message.

  • In the ad-hoc wireless network environment, that the fixed sensor nodes and the sensor nodes to move are mixed, as the number of the sensor nodes with mobility are getting more, the costs to recover and maintain the whole network will increase more and more. This paper proposed the CDSR (Cost based Dynamic Source Routing) algorithm being motivated from the typical DSR algorithm, that is one of the reactive routing protocol. The cost function is defined through measuring the cost which any sensor node pays to participate in the whole network for communication. It is also showed in this paper that the proposed routing algorithm will increase the efficiency and life of whole sensor network through a series of experiments.

A Study on the Self-voice Suppression Algorithm in a ZigBee CROS Hearing Aid (지그비 크로스 보청기에서의 자기음성 억제 알고리즘 연구)

  • In this study, we developed a wireless CROS(contralateral routing of signal) hearing aid for unilateral impaired people. CROS hearing aid takes sound from an ear with poorer hearing and transmit to another ear with better hearing. Generally, the self-voice delivered through the receiver of CROS hearing aid can be very loud. It is hard to perceive target speech because of loud self-voice. To compensate it, a self-voice suppression algorithm has been developed. we performed SDT(speech discrimination test) for evaluation of the self-voice suppression algorithm. One-syllable words was used as test speech and recorded with self-voice at a 1m distance. As the results, SDT score was improved about 11% when the self-voice suppression algorithm was processed. It is verified that the self-voice suppression algorithm helps speech perception at a time to communicate with others.

Multipath Routing Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks Using Dual Channel Routers (이중 채널 라우터를 사용하는 무선 센서네트워크를 위한 다중경로 라우팅 알고리즘)

  • In case of wireless sensor networks being applied to a target environment having continuous data transfer, high-speed data transmission and processing is necessary to meet increased bandwidth needs. This paper proposes a novel multipath routing algorithm to increase the bandwidth of continuous data stream for the wireless sensor network using dual channel routers. We evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm in the wireless sensor network using the dual channel touter based on ZigBee protocol. According to the experimental evaluation, the proposed algorithm showed outstanding performance enhancement with the bandwidth of 150kbps, which is about twice of existing single channel router.

  • 본 논문에서는 Zigbee 네트워크 환경에서 Zigbee 라우터가 다양한 종류의 패킷을 전송받을 때 패킷의 종류에 따라 발생하는 처리 대기열의 처리 지연을 줄이기 위하여 각 종류의 패킷마다 서로 다른 대기열을 두고 라우팅하는 기법을 제안하였다. 이 전에는 네트워크 디바이스의 성능으로 인하여 대기열을 다루는 다양한 방법이 제안되었으나, 대기열을 분리하여 처리하는 방법에 대해서는 한계가 있었다. 본 논문에서는 패킷을 제어, 실시간, 일반 패킷으로 분류하여 이를 서로 다른 대기열에 수용하고 처리함으로써 패킷 종류에 따라 타 패킷에 발생하는 처리 지연을 줄여 네트워크 효율을 향상 시킨다.
