Verminous pneumonia due to Parafilaraoides decorus infection is described in a California sea lion (Zaophus californianus). Multiple nodules measuring 1~7mm in diameter occurred throughout the lung. Histologically, lung worms were located in the bronchiolar lumens and alveolar spaces in which numerous inflammatory reactions were induced.

25년령의 암컷 캘리포니아 바다사자(Zalophus californianus)가 고령으로 인하여 분리 사육되고 있었다. 침울, 식욕부진, 쇠약, 체중감소 등의 임상증상을 보인 후 폐사하였고, 부검을 실시하였다. 육안적으로 양측 신장은 창백하고 직경 0.5-3 cm의 종양 결절이 다발성으로 관찰되었다. 간과 비장, 소장에서도 한계가 명료하고 크기가 다양하며 단단한 전이성 종양 결절이 다발성으로 존재하고 있었다. 본 예는 육안 및 병리조직학적 소견을 근거로 신장과 비장, 소장의 전이를 동반한 신장세포암종으로 진단할 수 있었다. 국내 캘리포니아 바다사자에서의 신장암의 보고는 드물며 향후 임상적으로 바다사자의 진료와 진단에 도움이 되고자 본 논문을 발표하는 바이다.

A case of enetritis caused by Clostridium perfringens was observed in 4years old, male California sea lion(Zalophus californianus). Clinical signs were included in anorexia, depression, diarrhea and vomitting, and the animal died on 4 days after showing clinical signs. Grossly, bloody contents were presented in the intestine and the intestinal mucosa were congested and dark redcolored, and also there were serous fluid in the peritoneal cavity. Histopathologically coagulative necrosis destroyed two third of the villus. Clostridium perfringens were isolated from the intestinal contents. Based on the gross and histopathological findings, this case was diagnosed as necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens infection.

Hematology and serum chemistry data were collected over a 12-yr period for California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) in Everland zoological Gardens. The objective of this study was to determine hematology and serum chemistry values for the California sea lion lived in fresh-water captive environment, including a comparison between male and female. The results didn't show any difference between male and female in statistics. However, hyponatremia was shown in some case compared with reported blood data of California sea lion. That was supposed that it was associated with a fresh-water captive environment.
