  • A zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) pulse width modulated (PWM) converter is a PWM converter with a single main power switch that has an auxiliary circuit to help it turn on with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). There have been many ZVT-PWM converters proposed in the literature as they are the most popular type of ZVS-PWM converters. In this paper, the properties and characteristics of several types of ZVT-PWM converters are reviewed. A new type of ZVT-PWM converter is then introduced, and the operation of a sample converter of this type is explained and analyzed in detail. A procedure for the design of the converter is presented and demonstrated experimentally. The feasibility of the new converter is confirmed with results obtained from an experimental prototype. Conclusions on the performance of ZVT-PWM converters in general are made based on the efficiency results obtained from the experimental prototypes of various ZVT-PWM converters of different types.

  • This paper presents a soft-switching average current control PWM high power factor boost converter. Conventional boost ZVT-PWM converter has a disadvantage of hard-switching for auxiliary switch at turn-off. A soft switched auxiliary switch is proposed to achieve a high performance ZVT-PWM boost rectifier. The simulation and experimental results show that soft switching operation can be maintained for wide line and load range, which in turn improves the converter performance in terms of efficiency, switching noise and circuit reliability.

  • In this paper, we propose a FB ZVT(full bridge zero voltage transition) PWM OC~OC converter which uses a a saturable reactor, instead of two additional switches, to achieve zero voltage switching. The conventional h high frequency phase shifted FB ZVT PWM OC-OC converter has a disadvantage that a circulating current f flows through high frequency transformer and switching devices during the free-wheeling interval. Due to this c circulating current, conduction loss increases. In order to reduce such the loss as this, we propose circuit of r reducing conduction loss at the secondary side of transformer. The operation principles are explained in detail a and the several interesting simulations and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed circuit.

  • In this thesis, improved full wave mode ZVT(Zero-Voltage-Transition) PMW DC-DC Converters are presented to maximize the regeneration ratio of resonant energy by only putting an additional diode In series with the auxiliary switch. The operation of the auxiliary switch in a half wave mode makes it possible soft switching operation of all switches including the auxiliary switch whereas it is turned off with hard switching in conventional converter. The increase of the regeneration ratio to resonant energy results in low commutation losses and minimum voltage and current stresses. The operation principles of the improved ZVT PWM DC-DC Converters are theoretically analyzed using the boost converter topology as an example. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the validity of the PWM boost converter topology with the improved full wave mode ZVT PWM converters.

  • Most of converter system could obtain almost unity power factor and make input current sinusoidal waveform, but they have many problems, such as electromagnetic interference and switching losses caused by switching noise in main switch. To solve these problems in hard switching PFC converter, soft switching converter using a resonant between capacitor and inductor is invented In this paper, advantages and disadvantages of conventional ZVT(Zero-Voltage-Transition) soft switching converter using a auxiliary resonant circuit is discussed. Then Improved ZVT soft switching converter proposed. This improved ZVT converter's operation principal, specific property, design scheme of main are described. From Simulation and experiment results of conventional ZVT soft switching and improved ZVT soft switching converter with active snubber, characteristics of the converter are confirmed.

  • This paper proposes a full wave mode ZVT-PWM boost converter. The converter with the auxiliary switch in a full wave mode makes possible soft switching operation of all switches including the auxiliary switch whereas the auxiliary switch is turned off with hard switching in the conventional converter. Therefore, the proposed converter reduces the turn-off switching loss and switching noise of the auxiliary switch without additional passive and/or active elements and high power density system can be realized.

  • In this paper, a new active snubber circuit that overcomes most of the drawbacks of the normal "zero voltage transition pulse width modulation" (ZVT-PWM) converter is proposed to contrive a new family of ZVT- PWM converter. A converter with the proposed snubber circuit can also operate at light load conditions. A design procedure of the proposed active snubber circuit is also presented. Additionally, at full output power in the proposed soft switching converter, the main switch loss is about 27[%] and the total circuit loss is about 36[%] of that in its counterpart hard switching converter, and so the overall efficiency, which is about 91[%] in the hard switching case, increases to about 97[%].

  • This paper proposes a unity power factor ZVT PWM single-phase rectifier. The ZVT soft switching are achieved by using a simple ZVT circuit, and the reduced conduction losses are achieved by employing a single-stage converter, instead of a typical double-stage converter composed of front end diode rectifier and cascaded boost rectifier. Furthermore, thanks to good features such as simple PWM control at constant frequency, low switch stress and low VAR rating of commutation circuits, it is suitable for high power applications. The principle of operation is explained in detail, and simulation results of the new converter are also included.
