  • In this paper, we propose an efficient control method that can be transformed into a general building control problem for building structure control using these reliability criteria. To facilitate the calculation of controller H∞, an efficient solution method based on Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) is introduced, namely H∞-based LMI control. In addition, a self-tuning predictive grey fuzzy controller is proposed to solve the problem caused by wrong parameter selection to eliminates the effect of dynamic coupling between degrees of freedom (DOF) in Self-Tuning Fuzzy Controllers. We prove stability using Lyapunov's stability theorem. To check the applicability of the proposed method, the proposed controller is applied and the control characteristics are determined. The simulation assumes system uncertainty in the controller design and emphasizes the use of acceleration feedback as a practical consideration. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed controller is impressive, stable, and consistent with the performance of LMI-based methods. Therefore, an effective control method is suitable for seismic reinforcement of civil buildings.

  • This paper presents an algorithm that automatically extracts buildings among many different features on the earth surface by fusing LIDAR data with panchromatic aerial images. The proposed algorithm consists of three stages such as point level process, polygon level process, parameter space level process. At the first stage, we eliminate gross errors and apply a local maxima filter to detect building candidate points from the raw laser scanning data. After then, a grouping procedure is performed for segmenting raw LIDAR data and the segmented LIDAR data is polygonized by the encasing polygon algorithm developed in the research. At the second stage, we eliminate non-building polygons using several constraints such as area and circularity. At the last stage, all the polygons generated at the second stage are projected onto the aerial stereo images through collinearity condition equations. Finally, we fuse the projected encasing polygons with edges detected by image processing for refining the building segments. The experimental results showed that the RMSEs of building corners in X, Y and Z were 8.1cm, 24.7cm, 35.9cm, respectively.

  • We have designed, fabricated and tested an integrated planar DC SQUID which incorporates input coil and mofulation coil in thin film structure. The SQUID uses Nb /Al-oxide /Nb Josephson junctions and Pd shunt resistors, and the SQUID loop incorporates two rings connected in series forming figure '8' structure and has the advantage of a negligibly small circulating current for the spatially homogeneous noise fields. The devices were fabricated using photolithographic technique, RF magnetron sputtering, anodic oxidation for insulation and lift-off process. The preliminary test of the fabricated SQUID at 4.2 K showed that the flux-voltage characteristics were smooth enough to adopt standard readout system, and the voltage noise was too small to be measured by direct method and so the white noise was thought to be less than $10^{-4}\;{\phi}_o/\;\sqrt{H_z}$.

  • In this study, $CeO_2$ thin films were etched with an addition of $Cl_2$ gas to $Ar/CF_4$ gas mixing in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etcher by the etching parameter such as RF power of 700 W, chamber pressure of 15 mTorr and dc bias voltage of -200 volts. The etch rate of $CeO_2$ films was 250 $\AA$/min with an addition of 10% $Cl_2$ gas to $Ar/CF_4$ gas mixture and the selectivity to SBT film was 0.4 at that condition. The surface reactions of the etched $CeO_2$ thin films were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was analyzed that Ce peaks were mainly observed in Ce-O bonds formed $CeO_2$ or $Ce_2O_3$ compounds. Cl peaks were detected by the peaks of Cl $2p_{3/2}$ and Cl $2p_{1/2}$. Almost all of Cl atoms were combined with Ce atoms like $CeCl_x$ or $Ce_x/O_yCl_z$ compounds.

  • X-ray observations of galaxy clusters have played an important role in cosmology, especially in determining the cosmological density parameter and the fluctuation amplitude. While they represent the bright side of the universe together with the other probes including the cosmic microwave background and the Type Ia supernovae, the resulting information clearly indicates that the universe is dominated by dark components. Even most of cosmic baryons turns out to be dark. In order to elucidate the nature of dark baryons, we propose a dedicated soft-X-ray mission, DIOS (Diffuse Intergalactic Oxygen Surveyor). Recent numerical simulations suggest that approximately 30 to 50 percent of total baryons at z = 0 take the form of the warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM) with $10^5K < T < 10^7K $which has evaded the direct detection so far. The unprecedented energy resolution (${\~} 2eV$) of the XSA (X-ray Spectrometer Array) on-board DIGS enables us to identify WHIM with gas temperature $T = 10^6 {\~} 10^7K$ and overdensity $\delta$ = 10 ${\~}$ 100 located at z < 0.3 through emission lines of OVII and OVIII. In addition, WHIMs surrounding nearby clusters are detectable with a typical exposure time of a day, and thus constitute realistic and promising targets for DIOS.

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of Cr dopant (1.0 at% $Cr_2O_3$ sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in air) on the bulk trap (i.e. defect) and interface state levels of ZnO using dielectric functions ($Z^*$, $M^*$, $Y^*$, $\varepsilon^*$, and $tan{\delta}$), admittance spectroscopy (AS), and impedance-modulus spectroscopy (IS & MS). For the identification of the bulk trap levels, we examine the zero-biased admittance spectroscopy and dielectric functions as a function of frequency and temperature. Impedance and electric modulus spectroscopy is a powerful technique to characterize grain boundaries of electronic ceramic materials as well. As a result, three kinds of bulk defect trap levels were found below the conduction band edge of ZnO in 1.0 at% Cr-doped ZnO (Cr-ZnO) as 0.11 eV, 0.21 eV, and 0.31 eV. The overlapped defect levels ($Zn^{..}_i$ and $V^{\cdot}_0$) in admittance spectra were successfully separated by the combination of dielectric function such as $M^*$, $\varepsilon^*$, and $tan{\delta}$. In Cr-ZnO, the interfacial state level was about 1.17 eV by IS and MS. Also we measured the resistance ($R_{gb}$) and capacitance ($C_{gb}$) of grain boundaries with temperature using impedance-modulus spectroscopy. It have discussed about the stability and homogeneity of grain boundaries using distribution parameter ($\alpha$) simulated with the Z"-logf plots with temperature.

  • In this paper, the exact analysis of the parallel coupled line with open stub and an application to branch-line hybrid are presented. The Z-parameter of the parallel coupled line with an open stub is derived. The structure shows the characteristics as a lowpass filter unit cell(LUC) with wide stop band. Using the characteristics we designed a miniaturized branch-line hybrid with wide harmonic-suppressed band. The size of the new branch-line hybrid is a half of the conventional branch-line hybrid. The frequency response is the same with that of the conventional one near 1.7 GHz center frequency. Including the fifth harmonics, up to 12 GHz spurious responses are suppressed below to -20dB.

  • Plate tectonics is a dominant paradigm in modern geophysics. Because of its geological mechanism, Korea has a possibility of earthquake according to plate motion. Besides the disaster of earthquake grows rapidly, the importance of recognition for earthquake has been emphasized. This study attempts to decide crustal movement parameters with GPS data, analysed baseline after processing data with GIPSY-OASIS II S/W, observed from 6 stations in and around the Korean peninsula, and obtained from selected 11 stations in Korea. As a results, maximum shear strain was $0.04{\mu}/yr$ and the mean azimuth of the maximum compression axes$(A_{z2})$ is estimated as $97.75^{\circ}$ in and around the Korean peninsula. The average rate of the maximum shear strain($({\gamma}_max)$) is $0.17{\mu}/yr$. The mean azimuth of the maximum compression axes$(A_{z2})$ is estimated as $70.25^{\circ}$ in Korea. Such a pattern of strain distribution is harmonious with that of seismic activity in Korea both historically as well as today.

  • Rate constants for the hydrolysis of cinnamonitrile in the concentration range of 1 ∼ 5M of perchloric acid at 25$^{\circ}$C have been determined by UV spectrophotometry and from the Bunnett equations, hydration parameters (${\omega}$ = 9.8, ${\omega}^*$ = 0.42 & ${\phi}$=1.6) were obtained. CNDO/2 MO calculations were performed to determine relative stability, net charges, and overlap population of various conformational isomers. The results show that the (E)-planar is more stable than the (Z)-planar and protonation is favored on the nitrogen atom. On the basis of above findings, the acid hydrolysis is initiated by the protonation of the nitrogen atom of cinnamonitrile and then water molecule acting as nucleophile and as a proton transfer agent in the rate determining step. In the transition state of the acid hydrolysis, nucleophilic addition of water molecule occurs by sigma approach to the positively charged $C_7({\alpha}$) atom of the conjugate acid. As the results, we may conclude that the hydrolysis of cinnamonitrile in the strong acidic media proceeds through the A-2 type mechanism.

  • Most of the conventional electrocardiowaphs foil to detect signals other than P-QRS-T due to the limited SNR and bandwidth. High-resolution electrocardiography(HRECG) provides better SNR and wider bandwidth for the detection of micro-potentials with higher frequency components such as vontricular late potentials(LP). We have developed a HRECG using uncorrected XYZ lead for the detection of LPs. The overall gain of the amplifier is 4000 and the bandwidth is 0.5-300Hz without using 60Hz notch filter. Three 16-bit A/D converters sample X, Y, and Z signals simultaneously with a sampling frequency of 2000Hz. Sampled data are transmitted to a PC via a DMA-controlled, optically-coupled serial communication channel. In order to further reduce the noise, we implemented a signal averaging algorithm that averaged many instances of aligned beats. The beat alignment was carried out through the use of a template matching technique that finds a location maximizing cross-correlation with a given beat tem- plate. Beat alignment error was reduced to $\pm$0.25ms. FIR high-pass filter with cut-off frequency of 40Hz was applied to remove the low frequency components of the averaged X, Y, and Z signals. QRS onset and end point were determined from the vector magnitude of the sigrlaIL and some parameters needed to detect the existence of LP were estimated. The entire system was designed for the easy application of the future research topics including the optimal lead system, filter design, new parameter extraction, etc. In the developed HRECG, without signal averaging, the noise level was less than 5$\mu$V$_rms RTI$. With signal averaging of at least 100 beats, the noise level was reduced to 0.5$\mu$V$_rms RTI$, which is low enough to detect LPs. The developed HRECG will provide a new advanced functionality to interpretive ECG analyzers.
