  • The aim of this qualitative study was to explore and understand the planning experiences of dreams and vision of the youths living in poorer area, from their own perspectives. The contents of their dreams and vision, and the preparation process to realize them and their realistic expectation for the future were experientially and systematically explored by qualitative methods. The participants were middle school students living in poorer neighborhood, recruited from 24 social work agencies under the umbrella of World Visions Korea. Focused group interviews were carried out in 24 World Visions agencies. The collected data was analyzed according to the content analysis methods. The results showed that the poor youths' dreams and vision were molded by their real experiences and continuously updated or frustrated by personal interaction with surrounding environment. It was also verified that poor youths were experiencing great difficulties in materializing their vision into practical careers due to the scarcity of emotional and financial support. Therefore, we suggest that direct and indirect social support should be provided to boost their interest in dreams and future, and that participation-oriented career guidance programs should be vitalized to help them to overcome their environmental obstacles.

  • The Internet and digital devices have become an important part of life among the youth (age 17-24) of today. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, Internet use in youth increased by 19.3%, with an average usage of 11.6 hours per day. Youths gain a lot of opportunities from the Internet, but, it also exposes them to various risks. Therefore, there is a need for measures to make the Internet a safe place for youth, in a balanced way that addresses opportunities alongside risks, through digital literacy. It is expected that through digital literacy, youths can take advantage of online opportunities, without being subjected to any dangers. This study aims to examine the relationship between the digital literacy, online opportunities, and online risks of young people, while at the same time examining the influence of digital literacy on those online risks and opportunities. This study employed the quantitative study approach (explanatory study). Cross-sectional surveys and structured questionnaires were used for data collection. The results showed that youth's (age 17-24) monthly expenses, age, and education levels were important factors for digital literacy and online opportunity; also, the digital literacy variable plays an important role and affects online risk and opportunity positively. Digital literacy has a greater influence on online opportunities than it has on online risks. As youths spend more time online, they become more digitally literate, which can enable them to benefit more from new technology. Unfortunately, those with greater digital literacy cannot find a way to avoid risks while seeking opportunities.

  • This study examines the social meaning of the CosPlay, the growth potential of CosPlay culture and its effect on the related industry through the perspectives and language of the youths who enjoy CosPlay, based on the ethnographic research. Also, this study presents a comparative description of Korea and Japan CosPlay culture by the ethnographic methodology whose purpose is to define relationship of cause and effect with phenomenon. For further step, this study plans to emphasize the need to link culture, clothes and related industry in order to create a cultural environment where diversity co-exists. CosPlay is the mania culture of Japan that emulated the Halloween party of the West and that developed the party into a unique form. In Korea, this practice was accepted for the first time among a handful of youths, starting from the 1990s, after which, it was introduced to the masses while holding CosPlay related events. While CosPlay is succeeded as an industry in Japan, CosPlay in Korea is considered childish play due to the Korean culture of considering cartoon as a childish and low class genre which is enjoyed by youths. CosPlay in Korea faces the following changes: aging of the members who comprised the CosPlay culture at the initial stage; population increase, centered on middle and high school students; interest of the government and the businesses that wish to produce economic wealth by organizing CosPlay events into events for youths; and changes in the environment that comprised the surrounding of the CosPlay culture. CosPlay is an honest play that demonstrates one's effort on the stage through performance. Moreover, most of the middle and high school students who comprise the CosPlay culture demonstrate similar characteristics as mania type of people when it came to the reason that they enjoy CosPlay. However, they did not consider CosPlay culture as an important aspect of their lives. Instead, most of them said that they participate to relieve stress. Thus, they have the potential to move onto another form of youth culture that may appear more attractive to them. To them, it is not the CosPlay culture that is important, but the fact that CosPlay provides a forum where they can freely engage in play.

The aim of this study is to establish morphological and functional value of an eye in Korean youths using specially designed computer software with digital photographic images. Methods: Authors measured anthropometry of an eye in Korean youths 1,449 individuals(622 males, 827 females) and analyzed stastically them. Results: The mean measurements are as follows. The diameter of cornea was $11.6{\pm}0.9mm$ in males and $11.3{\pm}0.9mm$ in females. The vertical dimension of palpebral fissure was $7.4{\pm}1.7mm$ in males and $8.2{\pm}1.6mm$ in females. The intercanthal width was $35.8{\pm}3.2mm$ in males and $34.4{\pm}2.9mm$ in females. The biocular width was $90.4{\pm}5.7mm$ in males and $87.4{\pm}5.3mm$ in females. The endocantion-superior margin of palpebral fissure distance was $12.7{\pm}1.4mm$ in males and $11.6{\pm}1.4mm$ in females. The horizontal dimension of palpebral fissure was $28.5{\pm}2.2mm$ in males and $27.4{\pm}1.9mm$ in females. The slant of palpebral fissure was $10.7{\pm}2.6^{\circ}$ in males and $11.3{\pm}3.0^{\circ}$ in females. The height of upper eyelid was $10.6{\pm}2.3mm$ in males and $10.7{\pm}2.3mm$ in females. The width of double fold was $2.0{\pm}0.7mm$ in males and $1.9{\pm}0.6mm$ in females. A double fold was seen in 21.9% of males and 44.9% of females. The most frequent shape of the double fold was type IV. The most common type of epicanthal fold was type III in both males and females. Conclusion: Photogrammetic measurement of large population using specially designed software could offer reliable data and these data could be useful reference for preoperative consultation, surgical planning and anthropometic study of eye.

  • This is a pilot study of multifaceted longitudinal research project to explore educational experiences of students with multicultural family backgrounds in Korea. Especially for this pilot study, I selected three foreign-born immigrant youths and tried to explore how these youths describe constraints of their learning experience in different culture. The data for this study were mainly collected through qualitative research methods. For a better understanding of the research participants' perceptions in this study, narrative inquiry and series of semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted for a period of four months which corresponds to one semester of school system in Korea. As a result, this study found that there is an urgent need to establish a systemic and developmentaly appropriate language education programs that ensure educating the language to the foreign-born immigrant youths because their academic achievement, interpersonal relationships, and future depend greatly on the fluency of Korean language. It was also found that it is necessary to take appropriate educational actions in supporting alternative schools where the foreign-born immigrant youths can fully and seriously considered as a whole person. Although this study has some limitations in examining every single aspect of the current state of education of students with multicultural backgrounds in Korea, it provides deep insight into some of their initial educational experiences and proposes several ways to improve these educational programs for them.

  • As intensifying competition alters the dynamics of the wireless industry and carriers begin to tap out traditional subscribers-business users and early adopters-wireless operators have come under pressure to begin expanding their target subscriber base. While alternative market segments such as youths, senior citizens, and lower-income or credit-challenged customers often offer less compelling fundamentals (i.e., lower average revenue per user and higher churn rates), carriers, in their race to increase market share, can no longer overlook these potential market segments. In particular, the youth market is a very appealing market segment for carriers to focus on for several reasons. Carriers in many parts of the world have already begun recognizing the compelling advantages of concentrating on youths and teens. This paper will examine the dynamics of the youth/teen population and what attributes make this group an appealing market for wireless carriers. In addition, it will take a look at new emerging technologies that may help carriers attract the youth market especially mobile data, entertainment applications, and wireless messaging. This paper also studies the sensation that carriers in Europe and Japan are achieving with the youth population and suggests how carriers in Korea can emulate that success.

The theme design of the shopping malls was often used the images of "city parks", "future city", "foreign tourist places", "carnival and festival", and "old towns" to evoke nostalgia of the past and fantasy of the future. The study finds that theme design was emphasized at the area of corridors-path, plazas-nodes and special districts such as movie theater and food courts. The study concludes that theme design in the three shopping malls should consider local(Korean) motifs in design properly and consider educative effects of the design on teens and youths.
