  • The synthetic behaviors of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by Fe/MgO catalysts were investigated in 0~90 wt.% range of MgO mixture ratios by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) process. The CNTs were synthesized with 40 minutes of synthetic time, and 923 K of synthetic temperature using 0.1 L/min of ethylene gas and 1.0 L/min of hydrogen gas as synthetic and carrier gas, respectively. As the increase of synthetic temperatures and times, the diameters of CNTs become thicker. The carbon yield showed in a parabolic curve as MgO content increased and the maximum carbon yield was obtained at 30 wt.% of MgO. There were no obvious changes in the diameters of CNTs respect to the change of MgO content. Fe/MgO CNTs showed good crystalinity by High Resolution Transmission Electron microscope (HR-TEM) analysis. The behaviors of Fe/MgO CNTs have a tendency of depending on synthetic time and temperature rather than MgO content.

  • We have investigated the mechanical deformation of carbon nanotube using TBMD(tight-binding molecular dynamics) simulation. We have studied four carbon nanotubes, armchair (6, 6), (7, 7), (8, 8), and (9, 9) carbon nanotubes whose length were same. As a result of study, we have known that the nanotube's yield force increases with incresing their diameter. It is similar between (6, 6) and (8, 8) CNT's force-strain curves. Also force-strain curve between (7,7) and (9, 9) CNTs are nearly same.

  • The forging limit curves of sintered porous metals have been calculated, in terms of the two principal strains, by the Lee-Kuhn initial imperfection model. The various yield functions for porous metal have been applied to the initial imperfection model. When the value of initial imperfection ratio equals the value of initial relative density of the sintered porous metals, the calculation values are in good agreement with the measured data. The slopes of the forging limit curves are about 0.5 as in the case of non-porous metals.

  • A specific experimental method, the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) technique has been widely used to determine the dynamic material properties under the impact compressive loading conditions with strain-rate of the order of 103/s~104/s. In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of rubber materials widely used for the isolation of vibration from varying structures under dynamic loading are determined using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar technique.

  • Thin film is one of the most general structures used in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). To measure the mechanical properties of SU-8 film, tensile testing was adopted which offers not only elastic modulus but also yield strength and plastic deformation by load-displacement curve. Tensile testing system was constructed with linear guided servo motor for actuation, load cell for force measurement and dual microscope for strain measurement.

  • This study develops a new method for interpreting the yield load from load tests on drilled shaft foundations ended on general soils, which is defined as a point where the maximum curvature on the hyperbolic-approximated load-settlement curve occurs. How ever, the point of maximum curvature is a variable depending on the units and scales of the load and settlement. Therefore, to obtain a unique maximum curvature point, both the load and settlement must be normalized by proper parameters, respectively, and be expressed on the same scaled arses(1:1). Normalization has been processed so that the yield load by the new interpretation is to be close to the average of yield loads interpreted by other methods investigated in this study. The quantitative comparison between the new criterion and other conventitonal methods is presented.

  • The effect of starch infusion on production, metabolic parameters and relative mRNA abundance was investigated in low yield lactating cows from 86 days in milk. Six Holstein cows fitted with permanent ruminal cannulas were arranged into one of two complete $3{\times}3$ Latin squares and infused with a starch solution containing 800 grams starch for 16 days. The three treatments were: i) ruminal and abomasal infusion with water (Control); ii) ruminal infusion with cornstarch solution and abomasal infusion with water (Rumen); iii) ruminal infusion with water and abomasal infusion with cornstarch solution (Abomasum). There were no significant differences (p>0.05) among the three treatments with low yield lactating cows in feed and energy intake, milk yield and composition, plasma metabolism, or even on gene expression. However, cows receiving starch through rumen performed better than directly through the abomasum during the glucose tolerance test procedure with a higher area under the curve (AUC; p = 0.08) and shorter half-time ($t^{1/2}$; p = 0.11) of plasma insulin, therefore, it increased glucose disposal, which stated a lipid anabolism other than mobilization after energy supplementation. In conclusion, extra starch infusion at concentration of 800 g/d did not enhance energy supplies to the mammary gland and improve the lactating performance in low yield lactating cows.

  • The authors of this study have developed a robot milking system composed of a multi-articular manipulator, a teat-cup attachment system, and an image processing system. In order to verify the efficacy of this system, we have conducted a performance analysis and measurement experiment of milk yield, using dairy cattle. It was concluded that teat recognition using the image processing system, teat-cup attachment, and detachment system did not binder milking. The milking yield of the robot milking system was analyzed based on a lactation curve. As a result, it was determined that the use of a robot milking system had no significant effects on milking yields. The robot milking system described in this study is designed specifically with a focus on teat-cup attachment and detachment performance, as well as the effect of these factors on milking yield. In the future, in-depth studies regarding the washing of the teats prior to milking, teat massage, pre-treatment and post-treatment processes after milking, and disinfection processes shall be conducted, in order to render this system feasible for use in an actual milking parlor.

  • Effects of three slow-release nitrogen fertilizers (Sulfur-coated urea, (SCU) Jin Hae Chemical Co. Korea(JHC); Tennessee Valley Authority. U.S.A(TVA); METAP, Japan) on the yield and nitrogen uptake of IR667 (Suwon 213) were investigated comparing with urea split application under the field condition with early and usual saeson cultivation. 1. SCU(JHC) was not superior than urea split application in yield and nitrogen nutrition due to early release of nitrogen. 2. SCU(TVA) outyielded urea split by 10% showed always highest nitrogen content in straw and most balanced relative cumulative curve of nitrogen uptake or dry matter yield. 3. At ear formation stage SCU(TVA) showed specially high nitrogen content which was highly correlated with number of grain per $m^2$ of field. 4. Only SCU(TVA) showed one peak curve of nitrogen uptake rate at ear formation stage while others showed two peak pattern. 5. nitrogen fertilizer recovery of slow-release fertilizers was higher than urea split in early season cultivation and SCU (TVA) (46.0) was higher but SCU(JHC) (38.9) was similar in compare with urea split(37.1) in usual season cultivation. 6. Most promising slow-release nitrogen to match plant requirement seems to be one mixed of various slow-release fertilizers having different release pattern.
