This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different plant growth media on the growth of tomato(Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) seedlings during growth stages. The media were commercial plant growth medium 100%, earthworm cast (that was produced by vermicomposting of food waste and cattle manure) 100%, earthworm cast 50% + vermiculite 50%, earthworm cast 50% + perlite 50%, earthworm cast 40% + vermiculite 30% + perlite 30%. Plant length(mm), number of leaves, leaf area($\textrm{cm}^2$), stem diameter(mm), plant dry mater were greatest till the 2nd week growth stages in the commercial plant growth medium plots, but those were higher in the earthworm cast than those in the other plant growth media at the later stages of this study(P<0.05). And relative growth rate of biological yield, relative growth rate of shoot and relative growth rate of root were highest in the earthworm cast till the 4th week growth stage. Therefore it can be implied that there is the possibility of potential utilization of earthworm cast, which was produced by vermicomposting of food waste and cattle manure, as vegetable growth medium.
The combined effect of tumbling marination methods (vacuum continuous tumbling marination, CT; vacuum intermittent tumbling marination, IT) and effective tumbling time (4, 6, 8, and 10 h) on the water status and protein properties of prepared pork chops was investigated. Results showed that regardless of tumbling time, CT method significantly decreased the muscle fiber diameter (MD) and significantly increased the total moisture content, product yield, salt soluble proteins (SSP) solubility, immobilized water component (p<0.05) compared with IT method. With the effective tumbling time increased from 4 h to 10 h, the fat content and the MD were significantly decreased (p<0.05), whereas the SSP solubility of prepared pork chops increased firstly and then decreased. Besides, an interactive effect between CT method and effective tumbling time was also observed for the chemical composition and proportion of immobilized water (p<0.05). These results demonstrated that CT method of 8 h was the most beneficial for improving the muscle structure and water distribution status, increasing the water-binding capacity and accelerating the marinade efficiency of pork chops; and thus, it should be chosen as the most optimal treatment method for the processing production of prepared pork chops.
Slag was collected from the iron-producing furnace site in Saengsoegol, Baegun mountain, where iron was manufactured by a righteous army against Japan in the Gwangyang region; then, the iron-manufacturing technique of the early modern period was investigated through scientific analysis. In the microstructure analysis results of the selected samples, iron bloom was mainly observed together with magnetite and fayalite. In the component analysis results of the compounds, it was confirmed that the furnace was built by using gangue of alkali feldspar or plagioclase series, and the ironmaking work was performed at a high temperature of at least 1050℃, because mullite was identified together with cristobalite and hercynite. Based on the chemical composition, it was speculated that low-grade iron ores were used as raw materials, and it seemed that the yield was low, because the total Fe content of the smelting slag samples was 37.72-49.93%. It was difficult to confirm whether a slag former was used, and it seemed that materials easily obtained nearby were used when the furnace was built, without considering the corrosion resistance. It appeared that the ironmaking work was performed at the Gwangyang Saengsoegol iron-producing furnace based on the direct ironmaking method in an environment that could escape the vigilance of the Japanese Empire to produce weapons that would be used for the resistance against Japan. It seemed that there was neither an advanced ironware production system nor a mass production system, and small-scale works were performed in short periods of time.
The significance of environment change and genetic safety has been recently recognized by many genetically modified (GM) plants. This study was to evaluate the safety of drought-tolerant rice and to identify the environment variance. The GM rice of drought-tolerant rice and four check cultivars were analyzed the data on agronomic characters and principal component in large-GM crop field. There was no significant difference in agronomic characters between the drought-tolerant rice and donor plant, 'Ilmi'. Grain yield showed the standard deviation of the difference, did not significant statistically. Related to grain characters, grain appearance were similar to the drought-tolerant rice and donor plant, 'Ilmi'. In Chemical characters, brown rice of the drought-tolerant rice and a donor plant, 'Ilmi' did difference in starch and protein, however, was similar as 'Ilpum'. These results indicated that drought-tolerant rice may perform to detect genetic safety in GM plants progeny.
This study was conducted to investigate the food components of cooking drips from shell oysters steamed under various retort pressures. Among the drips from shell oyster steamed under different retort pressures (1.0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 kg/$cm^2$) the oyster drip obtained at the 4.5 kg/$cm^2$ of retort pressure had the highest degree of brix, yield, crude protein, glycogen and trichloroacetic acid soluble-N contents, while its salinity was the lowest. In the results of food safety test, the presence of E. coli (18 MPN/100 g>) and viable cell (30 CFU/g>) in the oyster drip was in acceptable level as a food-stuff. However, the sensory evaluation such as color, flavor and taste, total amino acid and free amino acid contents of cooking drip from shell oyster steamed at 4.5 kg/$cm^2$ were inferior to those of oyster wash water. Differences in the major amino acids of total amino acid and free amino acid between oyster cooking drip and oyster wash water were also found. The results suggested that the effective use methods of oyster cooking drip should be investigated.

Fish roe is among the most valuable food resources produced by fisheries. Raw fish roe requires processing for conversion into hygienic, marketable, and consumer-acceptable forms. In this study, to investigate the food compositional characteristics of various types of fish roe, we applied vacuum freeze-drying to prepare fish roe concentrates (FRCs) from roe of Alaska pollack Theragra chlcogramma, bastard halibut Paralichythys olivaceus, and skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis. The FRC yield ranged from 22.7 to 26.7 g/100 g roe. The major constituents of FRCs were protein (65.4-79.6%), moisture (2.8-6.2%), lipids (8.5-18.3%), and ash (4.8-7.2%). Potassium, sulfur, sodium, and phosphorus were the major mineral elements of FRCs, and the major amino acids were aspartic acid (9.0-10.4 g/100 g protein), glutamic acid (13.2-14.5 g/100 g protein), lysine (8.4-8.6 g/100 g protein), and leucine (8.3-9.7 g/100 g protein). Vacuum freeze-dried FRCs differed among fish species in terms of amino acid composition and electrophoresis protein band distribution. Therefore, FRCs are an excellent source of protein nutrition and an appropriate protein fortification material in human foods or animal feed.
The applicability of the dipping, ultrasonic-assisted, heating methods to the extraction of useful components from Zostera marina was investigated. For the increase of the extraction yield of caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid from Zostera marina, ionic liquids and DES were used as additives in the extraction solvent. The optimum extraction conditions were found: dipping extraction, methanol as extraction solvent, 0.005 g of freeze-dried material powder, 5 mL methanol, 30 min and 0.5 g of DES-3 ($Et_4NCl$ and phenol) as additive. As a result, 0.19 mg/g of caffeic acid and 8.48 mg/g of rosmarinic acid were obtained. This method is simple and sensitive, and has been applied successfully to determine the component of caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid in Zostera marina and these results indicate that DES were used as additives is more suitable than traditional extraction for the extraction of useful components from Zostera marina.

In this paper, we propose a temporal error concealment method based on the edge adaptive masking. In the method, four regions around the corrupted block - top, bottom, left, and right - are defined and the edge features of the regions are extracted by applying an edge operator for each direction. The size of a mask for the boundary matching is determined by the edge information, which can be considered as a criterion to measure the activity of the boundary region. In other words, it is determined such that the size of the mask is proportional to the amount of edge-component extracted from each region in order to yield the higher reliability on boundary matching. This process is equivalent to applying weights depending on the edge features, which leads the improved motion vector. In experiments, it is verified that the proposed method outperforms the conventional methods in terms of image quality, and then its merits and demerits are discussed.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the optimal operating condition for the hydrogen production by biogas reforming using the plasmatron induced thermal plasma. The component ratio of biogas($CH_4/CO_2$) produced by anaerobic digestion reactor were 1.03, 1.28, 2.12, respectively. And the reforming experiment was performed. To improve hydrogen production and methane conversion rates, parametric screening studies were conducted, in which there are the variations of biogas flow ratio(biogas/TFR: total flow rate), vapor flow ratio($H_2O/TFR$: total flow rate) and input power. When the variations of biogas flow ratio, vapor flow ratio and input power were 0.32~0.37, 0.36~0.42, and 8 kW, respectively, the methance conversion reached its optimal operating condition, or 81.3~89.6%. Under the condition mentioned above, the wet basis concentrations of the synthetic gas were H2 27.11~40.23%, CO 14.31~18.61%. The hydrogen yield and the conversion rate of energy were 40.6~61%, 30.5~54.4%, respectively, the ratio of hydrogen to carbon monoxide($H_2/CO$) was 1.89~2.16.
Insecticide resistance is a serious is a serious threat to IPM, resulting in various adverse effects not to mention the loss of yield in agriculture. One approach to counter the problem is the disruption of resistance mechanisms. This can be achieved by (1) compounds which show a negative correlation with resistance at the site of action, (2) specific metabolic inhibitors which serve as synergists, or (3) a certain combination of two insecticides producing a joint action. This approach, however, requires certain precautions for the side effects may cause an increase in toxicity to mammals. Owing to the recent advances in theoretical studies on resistance management employing computer simulation and mathematical models, a few principles to reduce the risk of development of resistance have been clarified. They are helpful in designing operational strategies with regard to, for instance, insecticide doses to be applied, mode of application, and choice and nature of the insecticide(s) to be used. For restoration of insecticide susceptibility of a resistant population, reintroduction of susceptible individuals to the resistant population is feasible when certain conditions are met. Natural enemies which developed resistance to insecticides can be an important component of IPM as has been shown in the pest management in apple orchards. After all, the implementation of a successful resistance management program depends upon cooperation between different sigments of the agricutural community. Although resistance is a preadaptive phenomenon, in some cases spontaneous loss of resistance does occur without contamination by susceptible individuals. The instability of resistance in these insects implies the possible existence of a switch machanism controlling the expression of resistance gene(s). Elucidation of such a mechanism may eventually provide us with a new technical approach with which we can combat the problem of insecticide resistance.
