The effects of short-term waterlogging on physiological responses, fatty acid compositions and yield components of rapeseed at both the vegetative growth and the reproductive growth stages were assessed in this study. Waterlogged plants were treated for a period of 10 days at the vegetative growth stage and 4 days at the reproductive growth stage. The results show that photosynthesis and stomatal conductance at both the vegetative growth and the reproductive growth stage were significantly reduced during the waterlogging period and after the recovery period. When the plants were removed from water, photosynthesis and stomatal conductance progressively restored similar values to those of control plants within $2{\sim}3$ days. Fatty acid compositions were unaffected by waterlogging treatment. However, yield components (pod number and pod length) of the waterlogged treated plants at the reproductive growth stage were significantly reduced. These results suggest that short-term waterlogging may thus influence oilseed yield component.

To establish cultivation areas for the stable production of yacon, this study investigated the productivity and functional component contents of yacon in eight regions of Korea from 2011 to 2013. The results of principal component analysis using these data were as follows. A survey of 16 agricultural traits and meteorological data in the eight yacon cultivation areas showed that five factors (average temperature, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, frost-free days, and fructooligosaccharide content) were highly significant at the p < 0.001 level. Among the 16 agricultural traits and meteorological data used in the main component analysis of yacon cultivation areas, approximately eight contributed to the first principal component, and approximately four contributed to each of the second and third principal components. In particular, factors related to productivity, fructooligosaccharide content, and temperature change were considered important criteria for the classification of cultivation areas. The cultivation areas were divided into three groups by principal component analysis. In Group I, containing the Jinbu and Bonghwa areas in the mid-highland region at 500-560 m above sea level, the product yield was the highest at 2,622-3,196 kg/10a, the fructooligosaccharide content was also the highest at 9.04-9.62%, and the mean temperature was $17.3-18.5^{\circ}C$. In Group II, the areas Suncheon, Okcheon, Yeoju, and Gangneung, at 20-180 m above sea level, had the lowest yield, relatively lower fructooligosaccharide content, and the highest temperature. The areas in Group III showed values intermediate between those of Group I and Group II. For the different yacon cultivation areas, the product quantity and fructooligosaccharide content differed according to the environmental temperature, and the temperature conditions and number of frost-free days are considered important indicators for cultivation sites. Therefore, in terms of producing yacon with high quality, cultivation at 500-560 m is considered to give a higher yield and functional fructooligosaccharide content.
This study was carried out to evaluate yearly variation and stability of yield and yield components of fifteen rice varieties. Yield stability and universal variety parameter of rice varieties were utilized for statistical model developed by Stroike, Grafius, and Finlay respectively. The lowest yearly variation based on coefficient of variation was found in Dasanbyeo for number of panicles/hill, in Jodongji for number of grains/panicle, in Yongmoonbyeo for ripened grain ratio, in Nagdongbyeo for 1,000 grain weight, and in Dasanbyeo for grain yield. Stability analysis by Stroike and Johnson's model revealed that Ilpumbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo, Dongjinbyeo in Japonica type, and And-abyeo and Dasanbyeo in Tongil type had the higher stability above average. Universal varieties analyzed by Grafius model were Ilpumbyeo, Dongjinbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo, Nagdongbyeo, and Jodongji in Japonica, and Dasanbyeo and Samgangbyeo in Tongil type. Damageum, Dongjinbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo and Ilpumbyeo in Japonica, and Dasanbyeo and Yongmoonbyeo in Tongil type were found to be highly stable as analyzed by Finlay & Wilkinson's model. In conclusion, with reference to both grain yield and stability based on above three methods, Ilpumbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo, and Dongjinbyeo in Japonica, and Dasanbyeo in Tongil type were evaluated to be highly year-stable and high-yielding.
The effect of green ash cm the total yield and each yield component of rice was studied at highly Leaky paddy field. In addition, this effect of green ash was compared with that of Si-Mg-Ca fertilizer or lime. Experimental treatments included different levels and kinds of fertilizers such as 75 kg. per 10 are of Si-Mg-Ca fertilizer, 150 kg. of Ca and 75 kg., 150 kg., 225 kg., 300 kg., 375 kg. and 450 kg. of green ash with non-fertilized plot so called control, Paltal is the name of variety used. The results showed as follows ; 1) There is a tendency that the use of green ash, Si-Mg-Ca fertilizer and lime does not only stimulate the growth but increase yield in comparison with that of control. This increases in yield, mainly depends on the higher maturing rate, caused by these fertilizer applications. 2) In proportion to the total balk of green ash, yield showed getting higher. But excessed the level of 300 ㎏. per 10 are, significantly higher yield was not observed any more. This result is similar to that of Si-Mg-Ca fertilizer used plot. When green ash level reaches to 225 kg., are, is gives as high yield as that of Capit-fertilizer plot. 3) Thus the most adequate level of green ash application stands at about 300 kg. per are.
Overall experiments were planned by central composite design, and results were analyzed by response surface methodology (RSM) to determine effects of three independent variables, temperature ($X_{1}$), extraction time ($X_{3}$), and pressure ($X_{3}$), on yield of sesame oil extract (Y). Regression equation model optimized by response surface analysis was: Y (sesame oil) = $-3.89+0.07X_{1}+0.03X_{2}+0.0006X_{3}-0.0007X_{1}^{2}-0.0002X_{2}X_{1}-0.00008X_{2}^{2}+0.000004X_{3}X_{1}+0.0000009X_{3}X_{2}-0.00000009X_{3}^{2}$. According to RSM analysis, optimum extracting conditions of temperature, time, and pressure were $45.89^{\circ}C$, 131.89 min, and 34228.41 kPa, respectively, and statistical maximum yield of sesame oil was 96.27%. Fatty acid composition of sesame oil showed sesame oil extracted by Supereritical Fluid $CO_{2}$ contained lower levels of palmitic, stcaric, and oleic acids and higher levels or palmitoleic and linoleic acids than commercial sesame oil. Commercial and extracted sesame oils were analyzed by electronic nose composed of 12 different metal oxide sensors. Obtained data were interpreted by statistical method of MANOVA. Sensitivities of sensors from electronic nose were analysed by principal component analysis. Proportion of first principal component was 99.92%. All sesame oils showed different odors (p < 0.05).

Background : This study examined the effect of harvesting time on the growth, yield characteristics, and major beneficial components in Salvia miltiorrhiza. Methods and Results : Although plant height, stem diameter and branch length were not affected by harvesting time, the number of stems was highest when harvested in mid October. There were no differences in root length and thickness, however, the rhizome was thicker when it was harvested at the end of October or early November than when it was harvested in early and mid October. The dried root weight also showed a similar pattern. However, there was a statistically significant increase to 408 kg (16%) in the rhizome weight when in late October and a rise to 455 kg (29%) when harvested in early November. Harvest time had little effect on the content of the major component of S. miltiorrhiza. For example, salvianolic acid content rose from 9.42 to 9.64% with later harvest times, and tanshinone ${\prod}A$ content was tended to be slightly more increased in mid October which S. miltiorrhiza has 0.22% tanshinon ${\prod}A$ than in early October. Conclusions : According to these results, the optimum harvest time for S. miltiorrhiza is early November when plant or major component yields are hightest. There were no significant harvest time effects on the major beneficial components.

In order to find out a high potential black soybean lines, of which demand has been increasing in Korea, twenty eight local cultivars were evaluated on agronomic characteristics and the classification of the cultivars was made by the cluster analysis. Days to maturity and days to growing of black soybeans were widely ranged from 58 to 82 days, and 117 to 148 days, respectively. Late maturing group showed over 140 maturity days, and heavy 100 seed weight. There was shown low yield potential in late maturing group, and growing days was positively correlated with flowering days, days to maturity, 100-seed weight and stem length, respectively. From the principal component analysis upper two components composed 76.5% cumulative eigen value to total. Nine varietal groups were identified in relations to their affinity of the black soybeans. Selected black soybeans, Namhae-2 and Hamyang-l were field-tested and those characteristics of many pod, small seed and high yield were found out to be suitable for sprouting.
The effects of various weather factors on yield components of rice, year variation of yield components within regions, and regional differences of yield components within year were investigated at three Crop Experiment Stations O.R.D., Suweon, Iri, Milyang, and at nine provincial Offices of Rural Development for eight years from 1966 to 1973 for the purpose of providing information required in improving cultural practices and predicting the yield level of rice. The experimental results analyzed by standard partial regression analysis are summarized as follows: 1. When rice was grown in ordinary seasonal culture the number of panicles greatly affected rice yield compared to other yield components. However, when rice was seeded in ordinary season and transplanted late, and transplanted in ordinary season in the northern area the ratio of ripening was closely related to the rice yield. 2. The number of panicles showed the greatest year variation when the Jinheung variety was grown in the northern area. The ripening ratio or 1, 000 grain weight also greatly varied due to years. However, the number of spikelets per unit area showed the greatest effects on yield of the Tongil variety. 2. Regional variation of yield components was classified into five groups; 1) Vegetation dependable type (V), 2) Partial vegetation dependable type (P), 3) Medium type (M), 4) Partial ripening dependable type (P.R), and 5) Ripening dependable type (R). In general, the number of kernel of rice in the southern area showed the greatest partial regression coefficient among yield components. However, in the mid-northern part of country the ripening ratio was one of the component!; affecting rice yield most. 4. A multivariate equation was obtained for both normal planting and late planting by log-transforming from the multiplication of each component of four yield components to additive fashion. It revealed that a more accurate yield could be estimated from the above equation in both cases of ordinary seasonal culture and late transplanting. 5. A highly positive correlation coefficient was obtained between the number of tillers from 20 days after transplanting and the number of panicles at each(tillering) stage 20 days after transplanting in normal planting and late planting methods. 6. A close relationship was found between the number of panicles and weather factors 21 to 30 days, after transplanting. 7. The average temperature 31 to 40 days after transplanting was greatly responsible for the maximum number of tillers while the number of duration of sunshine hours per day 11 to 30 days after transplantation was responsible for that character. The effect of water temperature was negligible. 8. No reasonable prediction for number of panicles was calculated from using either number of tillers or climatic factors. The number of panicles could early be estimated formulating a multiple equation using number of tillers 20 days after transplantation and maximum temperature, temperature range and duration of sunshine for the period of 20 days from 20 to 40 days after transplantation. 9. The effects of maximum temperature and day length 25 to 34 days before heading, on kernel number per panicle, were great in the mid-northern area. However, the minimum temperature and day length greatly affected the kernel number per panicle in the southern area. The maximum temperature had a negative relationship with the kernel number per panicle in the southern area. 10. The maximum temperature was highly responsible for an increased ripening ratio. On the other hand, the minimum temperature at pre-heading and early ripening stages showed an adverse effect on ripening ratio. 11. The 1, 000 grain weight was greatly affected by the maximum temperature during pre- or mid-ripening stage and was negatively associated with the minimum temperature over the entire ripening period.
A single trait linear mixed random regression test-day model was applied for the first time for analyzing the first lactation monthly test-day milk yield records in Karan Fries cattle. The test-day milk yield data was modeled using a random regression model (RRM) considering different order of Legendre polynomial for the additive genetic effect (4th order) and the permanent environmental effect (5th order). Data pertaining to 1,583 lactation records spread over a period of 30 years were recorded and analyzed in the study. The variance component, heritability and genetic correlations among test-day milk yields were estimated using RRM. RRM heritability estimates of test-day milk yield varied from 0.11 to 0.22 in different test-day records. The estimates of genetic correlations between different test-day milk yields ranged 0.01 (test-day 1 [TD-1] and TD-11) to 0.99 (TD-4 and TD-5). The magnitudes of genetic correlations between test-day milk yields decreased as the interval between test-days increased and adjacent test-day had higher correlations. Additive genetic and permanent environment variances were higher for test-day milk yields at both ends of lactation. The residual variance was observed to be lower than the permanent environment variance for all the test-day milk yields.

This experiment was carried out to select for the varieties with high environmental adaptability in mountainous pastures of Taekwalyong area, and the evaluation was based on the data of varietal differences of dry matter production and yield components in Tall fescue cutting at various developmental stages in growth period of autumn. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The varieties with high number of tillers per plant(NT) showed a high dry weight of plant(DW) in all autumn cuttings. These varieties(Barce1 and Fuego) may be more adaptable to mountainous pastures of Taekwalyon area than other varieties. 2. The number of tillers per plant(NT) was significantly positive correlated with dry weight of plant (DW), but dry weight of tiller(WT) was not significantly correlated with dry weight of plant(DW) in all autumn cuttings. 3. The multiple regression equations of autumn cutting stages with mean dry weight of plant(DW) and number of tillers per plant(NT) can be used to estimate the cutting time to obtain maximum mean dry weight of plant(DW) and the highest number of tillers per plant(NT). The maximum mean dry weight of plant(DW) and the highest number of tillers per plant(NT) was estimated at the time of 21 Oct. and 26 Oct, respectively. 4. Dead leaves tended to increase greatly after the 2nd cutting(l4 Oct.) in growth period of autumn. 5. The number of tillers per plant(NT) was an important yield component before tiller density achieved equilibrium, but dry weight of tiller(WT, including dead leaves) was of most significant as a yield determinant after maximum tiller density reached in growth period of autumn.
