황해 지역의 질소와 황 침적 추정 (Estimation of Nitrogen and Sulfur Deposition over the Yellow Sea Region)

  • The amounts of nitrogen and sulfur deposited in the region of the Yellow Sea in both dry and wet forms were estimated by using the measurement data published in tile literature during tile past 10 years. In the estimation of dry deposition, concentrations at ground stations including those at a station on the Chinese side and concentrations from shipboard and aircraft measurements were used as well as deposition velocities. Wet deposition flux was determined at ground stations on the Korean side either by taking the flux data themselves or by calculating them from precipitation data in the literature. The dry deposition flux over the Yellow Sea was much greater than those China was confirmed from the fact that the total amount summing wet and dry depositions exceeded the emission amount from Korea. Dry deposition was principally made in the gaseous form due to a larger deposition velocity. Nevertheless, since the deposition velocity over water was smaller than that over the ground, dry deposition of oxidized nitrogen was smaller than wet deposition. As a whole, wet depositions of nitrogen and sulfur were 2.3 and 1.9 times 1arger than corresponding dry depositions, respectively.

  • In this study, europium doped strontium silicate ($Sr_2SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$) phosphor has been synthesized by conventional solid-state method and investigated luminescent characteristic. $SrCO_3$ and $SiO_2$ were mixed together by 2:1 mole ratio. Also $NH_4Cl$ was added as a flux. The mixture were sintered at $800^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3h under the atmosphere (5% $H_2$/95% $N_2$). This phosphor can be applicated to the yellow phosphor for white LED because it has yellow emission band (540nm), which emits efficiently under the 370nm excitaion energy.

Measurements of Atmospheric Gaseous Elemental Mercury over the Yellow Sea during 2007-2008

  • This study shows that the $Hg^0$ background concentration over the Yellow Sea was generally higher than those observed over other seas/oceans around the world. $Hg^0$ concentrations measured in the urban stomophere were significantly higher than the background concentration in China. Elevated $Hg^0$ concentrations at Deokjeok Island in Korea were attributed to long-range transport of mercury from high emission areas in China.

  • ZnS:Mn has been studied as a yellow phosphor for the application to fluorescent displays operated at low voltage. It was found that luminescence of $Mn^{2+}$ ion from hexagonal phase of ZnS was suitable for the display applications. The main emission peak was shifted to shorter wavelength when Cu ions were doped. The luminescence color of ZnS:Mn phosphor could be changed with decrease of its brightness.

연근해 자망과 통발 어업의 온실가스 배출량 현장실측 연구 (Comparative study of greenhouse gas emission from coastal and offshore gillnet and trap fisheries by field research)

  • Fossil fuel combustion during fishing activities is a major contributor to climate changes in the fishing industry. The Tier1 methodology calculation and on-site continuous measurements of the greenhouse gas were carried out through the use of fuel by the coastal and offshore gillnet (blue crabs and yellow croaker) and trap (small octopus and red snow crab) fishing boats in Korea. The emission comparison results showed that the field measurements are similar to or slightly higher than the Tier1 estimates for coastal gillnet and trap. In offshore gillnet and trap fisheries, Tier1 estimate of greenhouse gases was about $1,644-13,875kg\;CO_2/L$, which was more than the field measurement value. The $CO_2$ emissions factor based on the fuel usage was $2.49-3.2kg\;CO_2/L$ for coastal fisheries and $1.46-2.24kg\;CO_2/L$ for offshore fisheries. Furthermore, GHG emissions per unit catch and the ratio of field measurement and Tier1 emission estimate were investigated. Since the total catch of coastal fish was relatively small, the emission per unit catch in coastal fisheries was four to eight times larger. The results of this study could be used to determine the baseline data for responding to changes in fisheries environment and reducing greenhouse gas emission.

Photoluminescence property of vertically aligned ZnO nanorods.

  • Vertically aligned zinc oxide(ZnO) nanorods (NRs) with different surface morphology were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on sapphire substrate with different deposition condition. Based on the surface morphology, ZnO nanostructures are divided into three types: nanoneedles, nanonails and nanorods with rounded tip. Variable temperature photoluminescence (PL) have employed to probe the exciton recombination in high density and vertically aligned ZnO Nanorod arrays. Low temperature photoluminescence measurements do not show any significant yellow emission, but the near band edge excitonic emission shows very strong dependence with the surface morphology. The recombination properties are expected to be different due to different surface-to-volume ratio and distribution of potential fluctuations of intrinsic defects.

  • A series of $Ca_{1-x}Sr_{x}S:Mn$ phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reactions. The emission peaks of $Ca_{1-x}Sr_{x}S:Mn$ is blue shifted front 605 to 570 nm with increasing Sr content. Since $Ca_{1-x}Sr_{x}S:Mn$. Mn phosphors exhibit strong absorption in region of 254 nm, the emission wavelength of a fluorescent lamp, these phosphors can be used as wavelength tunable emitting phosphors from reddish orange to yellow. We investigated the optical and structural properties of $Ca_{1-x}Sr_{x}S:Mn$ phosphors.

Structure and Photoluminescence Properties of SnO2/Zn Core-shell Nanowires

  • $SnO_2-core/Zn-shell$ heteronanowires were fabricated by a two-step process: thermal evaporation of Sn powders and employing a sputtering technique with a Zn target. X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and EDX spectra coincidentally indicated that the shell layer comprised the Zn phase. From Gaussian deconvolution studies, we observed that photoluminescence (PL) spectra consisted of yellow, green, and ultraviolet (UV) emission bands, regardless of shell-coating. We speculated the possible mechanisms of these emission peaks.

Fabrication of SnO2/Zn Core-shell Nanowires and Photoluminescence Properties

  • We have fabricated $SnO_2$/Zn core-shell nanowires by employing a sputtering technique with a Zn target. Scanning electron microscopy indicated that the surface of the nanowires became rougher by the coating. X-ray diffraction of the coated nanowires exhibited the hexagonal Zn diffraction peaks. TEM image of coated structures showed that shell layer was mainly comprised of hexagonal Zn phase. EDX spectra suggested that the shell layer consisted of Zn elements. The photoluminescence spectrum of the coated nanowires in conjunction with Gaussian fitting analysis revealed that the emission was disconvoluted with three Gaussian functions, which are centered at 2.1 eV in the yellow region, 2.4 eV in the green region, and 3.3 eV in the ultraviolet region. We speculated the possible mechanisms of these emission peaks.

황해상 덕적도의 대기 에어로졸 특성 (Aerosol Characteristics at Tokchok Island in the Yellow Sea)

  • Various air pollutants were measured at Tokchok Island in the Yellow Sea that is about 50 km distant from Incheon since April 1999. This study was undertaken to help understanding the level of air pollution and its distribution characteristics over the Yellow Sea. The geographical characteristics of the air pollution monitoring station and emission inventories of Tokchok Island are introduced. The mass concentrations and chemical compositions of TSP and P $M_{2.5}$ measured until March 2000 are discussed in this paper. The overall average mass concentrations are about 37.2 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ for TSP and 18.7 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ for P $M_{2.5}$ , respectively, which are similar to or a little lower than the values observed in other background sites at Kangwha and Taean. However, they are much lower than those observed at Qingdao in China. The low mass concentration and major anthropogenic ion concentrations in aerosols collected at Tokchok Island show that local sources are not dominant at Tokchok Island. The estimated average fractions of anthropogenic non-sea-salt sulfate to the total sulfate concentration of TSP and P $M_{2.5}$ are greater than 80% for both sizes. It hence suggests that the sulfate be mainly affected by anthropogenic sources. If we consider the average mass ratio of P $M_{2.5}$ to TSP, the mass fractions of anthropogenic species to P $M_{2.5}$ , and the molar ratio of nss S $O_4$$^{2-}$ to total N $O_{3-}$, it may be possible to infer that a part of anthropogenic species measured at Tokchok Island be transported from China. The characteristics of neutralization of nss S $O_4$$^{2-}$ and the particle size of major ions are also discussed.
