  • The purpose of this study was to explore research trends in sleep from infancy through to adolescence. To achieve this, an examination was conducted of sleep research published in Korea based on the publication year, developmental stages of the study participants, research designs, measurement tools, and research topics. A total of 362 academic journal articles and theses/dissertations published in Korea up until 2023 were selected. In terms of publication year, the first study was conducted in 1967 and the field became more active from 2010 onwards. The age group studied the most was adolescents, with cross-sectional research being the most common study design. Regarding sleep measurement tools, most scales measuring sleep in infants, preschoolers, children, and adolescents were developed abroad, then adapted or validated in Korea, or were modifications of adult scales tailored for specific studies. Lastly, in terms of research topics, the most common focus was the relationship between sleep and developmental characteristics, particularly its effects on emotional development. Based on these results, future research could focus on developing sleep-related intervention programs and measurement tools.

  • Year 2014 was very special to Korean mathematical society. Year 2014 was the Mathematical Year of Korea, and the International Congress of Mathematicians "ICM 2014" was held in Seoul, Korea. The year 2014 was also the 330th anniversary year of the birth of Joseon mathematician Hong JeongHa. He is one of the best, in fact the best, of Joseon mathematicians. So it is worth celebrating his birth. Joseon dynasty adopted a caste system, according to which Hong JeongHa was not in the higher class, but in the lower class of the Joseon society. In fact, he was a mathematician, a middle class member, called Jungin, of the society. We think over how Hong JeongHa was able to write his mathematical book GuIlJib in Joseon dynasty.

  • The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) provides a searchable index peer-reviewed monographs and edited volumes published under an Open Access business model, with links to the full texts of the publications at the publisher's website or repository. This paper discusses a global analysis of open access books, which are available in the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). The data was collected from the open access directory at http://www.doabooks.org/ on $20^{th}$ October 2015. In total 3379 books are listed as available on the directory; the first and second books were published in 1866 and 1867 respectively. After 1962, the publication of books, increased gradually and the greatest number of books more than 300, was published in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Nearly 47 percent of the books (1584) were published in the English language only.

  • This article explores the ways Charles Dickens's roles as novelist and journal editor overlapped and influenced one another in the serial publication of A Tale of Two Cities (1859) and complicates recent historicist readings, which situate the novel in relation to the Indian Mutiny (1857-59), by calling attention to a double imperial logic used to construct British subjectivity not only against forms of Eastern Otherness but, moreover, against forms of Southern Otherness associated with the European South, especially Italy. Analyzing Dickens's historical representation of the French Revolution in relation to its contemporary international political context, this essay examines how the novel's serial publication draws upon political discourse from contemporary articles on the Second Italian War of Independence (1859-61) appearing concurrently in Dickens's journal, All the Year Round. Orientalism circulates simultaneously in the novel as a distant and exotic as well as a provincial and parochial representation of racial and cultural Otherness.

  • Opinion mining and sentiment analysis(OMSA) as a research discipline has emerged during last 15 years and provides a methodology to computationally process the unstructured data mainly to extract opinions and identify their sentiments. The relatively new but fast growing research discipline has changed a lot during these years. This paper presents a scientometric analysis of research work done on OMSA during 2007-2016. For the literature analysis, research publications indexed in Web of Science (WoS) database are used as input data. The publication data is analyzed computationally to identify year-wise publication pattern, rate of growth of publications, research areas.

  • The year of 2009 marks the $200^{th}$ anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book, On the Origin of Species. Having survived the 150 years of hardening and tempering, Darwin's theory of natural selection is now more comprehensive and powerful than ever. It casts its shadow over nearly all academic disciplines and societal sectors. It truly revolutionized the way we look at the world and ourselves. In the midst of Darwinian revolution, however, Korea remains as a backward country as far as the understanding of Darwin and his theory is concerned. A variety of intellectual activities organized to celebrate the Year of Darwin is helping to narrow the gap. This article summarizes the kinds of such activities held in Korea this year and explains how Darwin made all this possible. To paraphrase the famous quotation by Theodosius Dobzhansky, I now dare to say, "Nothing in life makes sense except in the light of evolution".

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify highly cited articles and examine trends and characteristics in research on periacetabular osteotomy. Materials and Methods: The 50 most highly cited articles on periacetabular osteotomy research were identified using Scopus. Data regarding article demographics and publication were collected from each article and an analysis was performed. Results: The mean citation count was 125±37. The article with the highest total citation count (796), five-year citation count (327), and five-year citation density (65/year) was reported by Reinhold Ganz. The five-year citation density showed strong correlation with total citation density (r=0.930, P<0.001). Reinhold Ganz, the most productive author, was listed on 13 articles in the cohort with 455 weighted citation points. Conclusion: This study provides a collection of articles examining periacetabular osteotomies and demonstrates that citation count can be regarded as an acceptable measure of the contemporary academic influence of an article.

  • This study surveyed standardization activities of the International Standard Organization (ISO) Technical Committee 159 (TC 159) (ergonomics) in the year 2008. The subcommittee 1 (SC 1) dealing with general ergonomics principles produced one committee draft (CD). The subcommittee 3 (SC 3) dealing with anthropometry and biomechanics systematically reviewed two ISO standards issued in 2003 and 2004 respectively. The subcommittee 4 (SC 4) dealing with ergonomics of human system interaction issued 11 final draft international standards (FDIS), 3 draft international standards (DIS), 4 CDs, and 4 new work item proposals (NWIP). The SC 4 also systematically reviewed 10 international standards due on the year 2008. The subcommittee 5 (SC 5) dealing with ergonomics of the physical environment issued one FDIS, 3 CDs, and one NWIP. This paper summarized the major features of the FDIS approved by each subcommittee of TC 159 for publication in the year 2008.

  • Government Publications are published to keep records of governmental activities and performances. In a rapidly changing information-oriented society, it is badly required for the operation system of government publications and a library to be effectively managed with government publications for satisfying 'right to know' of people and improving the obligation of government to 'let people know.' Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to analyze such five research items as the situation of the publication and distribution of, government publications, the operation system of the publications in library, the number of publications regarding secondary information sources for the publications, and the legal deposit of the publications in the National Library, in order to proceed with a subject as to how much the government publication is satisfying 'right to know' of people. The research findings were suggested as follow : 1) Despite the fact that the publication of government publications has been gradually increased every year in numbers and kinds, it is unfortunately pointed out that the publications, distributions and sellings of them were not well organized and systematic. That is, the government publications had not been published more than 1.47% of all publications in number. Moreover, more than the half of the publications were non-periodically or annually published. To make the matter worse, it was not easy to get an access to the publications because of the publications not to be sold. 2) It a n.0, ppears that people could not use the publications efficiently because the library and administrative document office did not pay sufficient attention to public relations for all sorts of government publications. Not only that, there were not enough numbers of publications regarding such secondary information sources as bibliography, index and catalog. A speedy searching capacity for the information gave rise to another serious problem which the government publications could not be effectively used. 3) It is legally stated that all sorts of government publication should be deposited to the National Libraries. However, the law was not properly put into force because of lack of understanding of government agencies about the law.
