Simplified fabrication method of Functional materials (기능성 재료의 간소화된 합성법)

  • Superconducting ceramics of YBaCuO was fabricated on SrTiO substrate by chemical fabrication method using fine powder of YBaCuO having diameter less than 1um. The pattern of the fabricated superconducting bulk was linear and the thickness of it can be controlled in the range of 50um. The structure of the surface of film by diffraction pattern and composition. The tape like YBaCuO bulk with width of 10mm was formed on substrate using similar method. Tape like film is expected to utilize as material of superconducting tape.

$Y_BaCuO_5$ Distribution within $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ Grains of Melt Infiltration Processed YBCO Oxides (융융체 침투법으로 제조한 YBCO 산화물에서 $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ 결정립 내 $Y_BaCuO_5$ 입자분포)

  • Distribution of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ (211) Particles within $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}/$ (123) grains of melt infiltration processed YBCO oxides was investigated. Processing parameters were a temperature, atmosphere (air and $O_2$) and initial 211 size. The 211 particles were distributed randomly within the 123 grains when the initial 211 size was large, while they made x-like pattern and/or butterfly-like patterns when the 211 size was small. The 211 patterns were more clearly observed in the samples prepared at higher temperatures and under $O_2$ atmosphere. The 211 distribution was explained in terms of the interfacial energy relationship among the solid, particle and melt.

Effects of Substrate-Grounding and the Sputtering Current on $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ Thin-Film Growth by Sputtering in High Gas Pressures (고압 스터터링 방법으로 $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$박막을 제조할 때 기판의 접지 여부와 인가전류의 양이 박막 성장에 미치는 영향)

  • 직경 2인치의 YBa2Cu3O7-y 타겟을 사용하여 높은 스퍼터링 기체 압력 하에서 off-axis DC-마그네트론 스퍼터링 방법으로 MgO(100) 단결정 기판 위에 YBa2Cu3O7-y 박막을 c축 방향으로 in-냐셔 성장시킬 때 기판의 접지 여부와 인가전류의 양이 박막 성장에 미치는 여향을 연구하였다. 그 결과 접지 여부는 박막의 초전도 변환온도, 전기수송 특성, 결정 구조적 특성에는 영향을 거의 주지 않는 반면 표면상태에는 상당한 영향을 미치며, 인가전류의 양은 초전도 특성에 많은 영향을 미침을 발견하였다. 기판온도 $670^{\circ}C$, 스퍼터링 기체압력 300mTorr, 아르곤 대 산소 분압비 5:1의 조건에서 인가전류의 최적량은 300-500 mA이었으며 평균 박막 성장속도는 $0.11-0.14AA$/s로 매우 낮았다. 기판의 접지 효과와 낮은 성장속도의 원인에 대해 고찰해 본다.

  • In this report, a new process for patterning of YBaCuO thin films, ICP(inductively coupled plasma) method, is described by comparing with existing wet etching method. Two 100㎛ wide and 2mm long YBaCuO striplines on LaAlO$_3$ substrates have been fabricated using two patterning techniques. And the properties were compared with the critical temperature and the SEM photography. Then, the critical temperatures of two samples were about 88 K, but the cross section of sample using ICP method was shaper than that using the wet etching method. ICP method can be used as a good etching technique process for patterning of YBaCuO superconductor.

  • Degradation of the 90 K superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ in water and humid atmosphere were studied and its decomposition products were identified as $BaCO_3$, CuO, $Y_2(CO_3)_3{\cdot}3H_2O$ and $O_2$. XRD analysis, iodometric titration and IR-spectroscopy of the degraded samples suggest that the $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ decomposes in three steps such as the reduction of $Cu^{3+}$ to $Cu^{2+}$, followed by the hydroxylation of $Ba^{2+}$ and $Y^{3+}$ via hydration and finally the formation of carbonates through the uptake of ambient $CO_2$.

  • The superconducting phase, $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{x}$ (YBCO), was in-situ deposited on the single crystal MgO substrates, using an aerosol decomposition process in a cold plasma reactor. The solubility and decomposition temperature of the chemical precursors, and the vapor pressures of the solvents, were determined to be the factors crucial to achieving a stoichiometric, crystalline YBCO phase. The deposition parameters for the YBCO phase were 0.3 to 2.7 kPa for the oxygen partial pressure and $800^{\circ}C$ to $940^{\circ}C$ for the substrate temperature. The optimum deposition conditions for the YBCO phase were observed along the CuO decomposition line.

  • The electrical characteristics of single-crystal composite superconductors produced by a melting process were studied by neutron irradiation. In order to improve the current characteristics of the YBa2Cu3O7-y superconductor, it is necessary to form an effective flux pinning center inside the superconductor. In this study, an increase in flux pinning was attempted through neutron irradiation onto YBa2Cu3O7-y superconductors. The neutron irradiation was performed at 30 MeV for 500 sec, The electrical properties of the superconductors were measured in a magnetic field of 5 Tesla at 50 K using a magnetic properties measurement system (MPMS). After neutron irradiation, the critical current density of the YBa2Cu3O7-y superconductor in a 1 Tesla magnetic field was 1×105 A/cm2. Once neutrons were irradiated at 30 MeV and 10 μA for 500 sec, the critical current density was observed to increase significantly. When neutrons are irradiated to a superconductor, micro-defects are created in the superconductor, and they act as flux pinning centers that hold the magnetic field generated when an electric current flows.

  • The YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O6+xstructures have been fluorinated by a gas phase exchange technique, and 19F NMR was used to identify the structural fluorine. Magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that the fluorination turned a marginally nonsuperconducting sample into a 40 K superconductor, as well as that it raised the onset of the superconducting transition of the 60 K superconductor YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O6.7 to about 100 K.

  • We calculated a difference between the YBa$_2Cu _3O_{7-x}$ superconductor (123 system) of critical temperature, 95 K and the YBa$_2Cu_4 O_8$ superconductors (124 system) of critical temperature, 80 K in Y-system superconductors using Extended Huckel Theory (EHT). The valence electron population (VEP), reduced overlap population (ROP) and net charge for the charged cluster models relating to the layer and the chain in 123 and 124 systems were compared. The VEPs of Cu atom in the layer of 123 and 124 systems populated d$_{z^2}$ orbital more than d$_{x^2-y^2}$ orbital, and in the chain of 123 and 124 systems populated d$_{y^2-z^2}$ orbital more than d$_{z^2}$ orbital. The ROP of the Cu(1)-O(1) in the layer of 123 system was larger than the value of the Cu(1)-O(2), but the ROP of the Cu(1)-O(2) in the layer of 124 system was larger than the value of the Cu(1)-O(1). The ROP of Cu(2)-O(4) in the chain of 123 and 124 systems were larger than the value of the Cu(2)-O(3). In 123 system the net charge values of the Cu in the layer was larger than the value of the Cu in the chain. However, in 124 system the net charge value of the Cu in the chain was larger than the value in the layer.

  • The present work describes the effect of dry grinding of a mixture composed of $Y_2O_3$, $BaCO_3$ and CuO powders with a planetary ball mill before heat treatment on crystal structure and superconductivity in the $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$. The specific surface area of the ground product of mixture decreased with an increase in the grinding time, after showing an upward trend up to 60 minutes of grinding. The critical current density, which was influenced by the grinding time of mixture, indicates the maximum value of about $150A/cm^2$ in the case of 60 minutes grinding, while the critical temperature, which were around 90K, for the sintered bodies were almost independent of the grinding time.
