Operation characteristics of a diode side-pumped, high power Nd:YAG laser (다이오드 측면여기 고출력 Nd:YAG 레이저의 발진특성)

  • We fabricated a high power Nd:YAG laser pumped by a 1 kW diode laser with a Lambertian-type diffusive reflector. Maximum cw power of 500 W with a slope efficiency of 49%, which corresponds to an optical efficiency of 46.7%, was obtained from a short linear resonator when a 5 mm rod was used. The efficiencies decreased when a 6 mm rod was used, due to the poor quality of the absorption distribution in the rod. The measured beam quality factor of 70, which is slightly smaller than the value calculated from the measured thermal focal lengths, shows that the absorption distribution in the rod is fairly uniform. iform.

  • In this study, the laser patterning of sputter-deposited amorphous CoNbZr films has been tried usig Nd: YAG laser. However, the metal film was not removed because of its high reflectance of the alser on the metal surface. To solve this problem, authors tried to screen-print a block polymer on the metal film and then irradiate the laser on the polymer. This is a new method which was suggested by this study. Using this new method, the metal films were effectively removed with the laser power of 114W even though the metal films was not removed with the laser power of 332W using the conventional method. This result leads to the conclusion that the block polymer acts as a laser energy absorbing and transferring layer.

Experimental Study of Removing Epoxy Resin from Iron Object using Nd:YAG Laser Cleaning System (철제유물에 사용된 에폭시수지 제거를 위한 Nd:YAG 레이저 클리닝 실험 연구)

  • Epoxy resin has superior durability and adhesive strength and proper physical strength so that it is used to diversity materials for multi-purposes. However epoxy resin is hardly removed after hardening specially once it is applied to artefacts, it is difficult to remove them under re-conservation. This paper is an experimental study on removing epoxy resin applied to iron objects using Nd:YAG laser cleaning system. Tests conducted in this study investigated how increasing laser energy and pulses would give effect on samples. The samples were prepared in a way that epoxy resin, itself pure and one which was mixed with pigment and they were applied to iron coupons and corroded iron coupons respectively. As a result of experiment, pure epoxy resin applied to corroded iron coupons was ablated at high laser energy but epoxy resin applied to iron coupons and mixing with pigment were not ablated but discolored and bubbled due to laser-induced heat generation. Results of FT-IR showed no component alteration of shifted resins and no residues on the surfaces ablated by laser irradiation. From SEM-EDS for removed surfaces, the debris from epoxy resin and melting iron was observed. Therefore, this study demonstrated the possibilities and limitations for laser cleaning to remove epoxy resin from iron objects.

CUTTING EFFICACY OF Er:YAG LASER AND CONVENTIONAL BUR IN DECIDUOUS AND PERMANENT TEETH (Er:YAG laser와 Conventional bur의 유치와 영구치 치아삭제효과 비교)

  • This study was conducted to observe the microscopic structures of cavities formed after ablation of primary teeth, permanent teeth, enamel and dentin in using a bur and cavities formed after ablation using laser and the following results were obtained after comparing the effects of ablation. Using a #330 bur and Er:YAG laser irradiated at 150 mJ, 200 mJ, 250 mJ and 300 mJ all at the frequency of 5 Hz, 1 mm enamel and dentin samples were ablated and the ablation time was measured. In order to measure the surfaces ablated, 5 each of primary teeth and permanent teeth were ablated using a #330 bur and Er:YAG laser at 150 mJ, 200 mJ, 250 mJ and 300 mJ for 1 sec and the cross section and vertical section were observed. The following results were obtained : 1. Cutting time of Er:YAG laser was longer than that of conventinal high-speed bur regardless of teeth type. 2. Cutting on enamel, Cutting time of conventional high-speed bur in deciduous teeth was longer than in permanent teeth(P<0.05). But Er:YAG laser was not showed any difference between the deciduous and permanent teeth(P>0.05). 3. Cutting on dentin, Cutting time of conventional high-speed bur in permanent teeth was longer than deciduous teeth. Er:YAG laser of 150 mJ, 5 Hz in permanent teeth was longer than in deciduous teeth(p<0.05). But laser of other power did not showed mean difference. 4. The cavity surface treated with the convetional high-speed bur revealed a relatively flat appearance, almost covered with a debris-like smear layer. Cavity wall showed striped appearance because of blade of bur. 5. The cavity surface treated by the Er:YAG laser system was irregular or rough surface with the absence charring, carbonization, or cracking of the dentin. In addition, there was an absence of a smear layer. Cavity floor was round and relatively smooth. According to these results, cutting time of Er:YAG laser was almostly same in permanent and deciduous teeth, but more effective in dentin than enamel. Cutting the sample, Er:YAG laser was needed more time than conventional bur. But SEM findings suggested that laser device produced favorable surface characteristic(i.e, no smear layer, irregular surface, cracking).

  • 치근부 민감성 (hypersensitivity)은 부분적으로 치근면에서의 개방된 상아세관이 존재하는 것에 기인한다고 생각되며 이러한 치근부의 개방된 상아세관은 치경부 병소 (cervical lesion)에 주로 존재하는데 이는 칫솔질에 의한 마모(toothbrush abrasion), 화학적 침식 (chemical erosion), 또는 abfraction 등의 결과로 나타난다고 한다. 이미 Nd-YAG 레이저를 이용한 실험에서 레이저를 조사한 상아질 표면의 상아 세관 구경이 감소되고 상아세관의 폐쇄가 많이 증가되는 양상을 관찰한 바 있다. 이 실험의 목적은 고출력레이저인 Nd-YAC 레이저를 이용한 상아질 표면처치의 임상사용가능성을 좀 더 상세히 평가하기 위해 상아질에 레이저를 처리한 후 기계적으로 마모시킨 경우 상아질 표면의 변화를 관찰하는 것이다. 50개의 발치된 치아의 상아질을 노출시켜 표면을 연마한 후 대조군에서는 37% 인산으로 산부식하여 상아 세관을 노출시킨 후 레이저를 조사하였고, 실험군에서는 대조군과 같은 조건으로 산과 레이저로 처리된 상아질 표면을 15, 45, 90 그리고 180분 동안 전동 칫솔로 기계적으로 마모시켜 그 표면을 주사전자현미경으로 관찰한 결과, 대조군, 칫솔질을 15, 45분간 시행한 실험군에서는 상아 세관 입구가 10% 이내에서 노출되었고 50 그리고 180분간 칫솔질을 시행한 실험군에서는 45 그리고 48%의 상아세관 입구의 노출이 관찰되었다. 그러므로 Nd-YAC레이저의 조사는 상아질 표면에서 축적 시간이 45분 이상에서 90분 이하인 기계적 마모에 의한 상아 세관 입구의 노출을 억제할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

An analysis of Cutting Characteristic of Multilayer FPCB using Nd:YAG UV Laser System (Nd:YAG UV 레이저를 이용한 연성회로 다층기판 절단특성에 대한 연구)

  • The FPCB is used for electronic products such as LCD display. The process of manufacturing FPCB includes a cutting process, in which each single FPCB is cut and separated from the panel where a series of FPCBs are arrayed. The most-widely used cutting method is the mechanical punching, which has the problem of creating burrs and cracks. In this paper, the cutting characteristics of the FPCB have been experimented using Nd:YAG DPSS UV laser as a way of solving this problem. To maximize the industrial application of this laser cutting process, test samples of the multilayered FPCB have been chosen as it is actually needed in industry. The cutting area of the FPCB has four different types of layer structure. First, to cut the test sample, the threshold laser cut-off fluence has been found. Various combinations of laser and process parameters have been made to supply the acquired laser cut-off fluence. The cutting characteristics in terms of the variation of the parameters are analyzed. The laser and process parameters are optimized, in order to maximize the cutting speed and to reach the best quality of the cutting area. The laser system for the process automation has been also developed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Er:YAG laser on cutting of efficacy of enamel and dentin in primary and permanent teeth. We used the enamel and dentin specimens of human teeth which contain the physiologic saline and maintain the pulpal pressure in dentinal tubules. Each specimen was exposed to Er:YAG laser with non-contact mode under different treatment condition of irradiation energy, pulse repetition rate. We investigated the cutting efficacy of Er:YAG laser by Scanning Intensity Microscopy, and obtained following results. 1. Cutting volume of enamel and dentin in primary and permanent teeth were increased by increasing the irradiation energy, pulse repetition rate. 2. Cutting volume of primary teeth was larger than that of permanent teeth. 3. Cutting volume of dentin was larger than that of enamel in primary and permanent teeth. From these results, Er:YAG laser would be more effective in cutting dentin than enamel, and in cutting primary teeth than permanent teeth for clinical application.

  • Nd:YAG 레이저의 수동적 Q-switching을 위해서는 대부분 유기물인 dye를 포화흡수체로 이용해 왔으나, 장시간 사용시 dye 분자의 결합이 끓어지면서 생기는 photodegradation으로 인하여 안정성에 많은 문제를 가지고 있다. 최근에 Cr$^{4+}$ :YAG 단결정의 물리적인 특성과 열적 안정성이 밝혀지면서 Nd:YAG 레이저의 Q-switching용 포화흡수체로 대치되고 있다[1]. 본 실험에서는 Z-Scan 방법을 이용하여 입사광의 세기에 따른 Cr$^{4+}$ :YAG 단결정의 흡수변화를 측정하였으며, 또한 Cr$^{4+}$ :YAG 단결정의 성장이 진행될수록 결정성장 길이에 따라 Cr 이온의 농도가 낮아지는 현상이[2] 발생하는데 두가지 서로 다른 결정화분률에 대해서 비선형 흡수를 비교하였다.
