  • Satellites are generally put in horizontal configuration to install a weighty, large and deploying SAR antenna which is required precise alignment. It is not to damage an antenna deployment mechanism from impellent strength as SAR antenna rotation axis is aligned with the gravity axis and SAR antenna is put in a zero gravity condition. In order to install such a deploying antenna, satellite should be a same condition of the vertical configuration without the deflection of satellite when it is rotated horizontally. In this paper, it is shown how to measure the deflection of satellite and how to get a reaction force value for compensating the deflection.

  • The objective of this study was to present creep and the effects of mechano-sorptive deflection of drift pin moment resisting joint between LVL members under changing relative humidity (RH) conditions. The LVL members with steel gusset were jointed by a square pattern of eight injected drift pin. Three diameter drift pins were used to test specimens (6mm, 10mm, and 16mm). The creep test was conducted under two constant loading conditions : one at 30 kgf(840 kgf-cm) and the other at 60 kgf(1680 kgf-cm). The experiment was conducted in an open shed outside. (1)The total rotation creep model of moment resisting joing can be expressed as the sum of the creep of controlled environment (3-parameter model), dimensional change and mechano-sorptive deflection resulting from the variable environment. (2)Mechanosorptive rotation creep is recoverable as moisture content increases during adsorption. Least squares method for linear regression analysis was performed using mechano-sorptive rotation creep as the dependent variable and moisture content as the independent variable. The slope of low moment specimens are compared with those of high moment. This means that low moment condition is more easily affected by changes in humidity than high moment conditions. (3)Although creep deflection is higher for small diameter drift pin than for large diameter drift pin, the shape of creep deflection curves for all specimens is similar.

  • A mackerel grader is a machine for sorting mackerel according to size. In this study, the dynamic deflection and optimal sorting simulation of a mackerel grader was carried out by using multi-body dynamics. To analyze the dynamic deflection of the roller, RecurDyn, a multi-body dynamics analysis program, was used. The dynamic deflection of the roller pipe was analyzed according to the inclination of the roller pipe. When the inclination of the roller pipe was 30 degrees, the roller indicated the maximum deflection of about 6.3 mm at the center of the mass. To simulate the mackerel sorting, the mackerel grader machine was modeled, and the contact simulation between the mackerel model and the rotating roller pipe was carried out. When the inclination of the roller frame was 7 degrees, the mackerel grader indicated optimal sorting performance.

  • A ship engine operator should compensate the crankshaft assembly of ship engine after inspecting crankshaft deflection error in the crank throw regularly to avoid engine vibration and abrasions. In the previous method, the operator enters the bed plate and measures crankshaft deflection using dial gauge on rotating crankshaft manually. However, this method can cause dangerous situation to the operator as well as uncomfortable in an inferior environment. In order to solve the problems, this paper studies the method which makes the operator measure the error outside of the bed plate. In this paper, it is suggested that BlueTooth wireless communication transfers the error data to the outer standing operator with digitalized crankshaft deflection inspection device developed in this paper. So, the wireless measurement system is developed and applied to a medium-speed marine engine through size-miniaturization. After applying test, the developed inspection device showed that it provides much safe and ease inspection method. Furthermore, in the result, the measuring accuracy is more improved.

  • In this paper we investigate characteristics of deflection for circular plate with the non-symmetric boundary condition that is the boundary condition partly supported along the width direction of plate according to the length change of supporting end. For two boundary conditions such as simple supported and completely clamped boundary conditions, this study derives the maximum deflection formula of the circular plate using differential equation of elastic curve, assuming that a circular plate is a beam with the change of width and thickness along the longitudinal direction. The deflection formula of circular plate is verified by carrying out finite element analysis with regard to the ratio of length of supporting end to radius of circular plate.

  • The narrow-pitched connectors are of interest for small-scale devices such as smart phones because of theirs caling. We conducted an injection molding analysis and a warp analysis for 0.3mm and 0.5mm pitch FPC connectors. We obtained a volumetric shrinkage of 4.344%, a clamping force of 0.2529 tonne, a maximum injection pressure of 76.3 MPa as optimized molding conditions for the 0.3mm pitch FPC connector. We found that, compared with the traditional injection molding technique, the injection molding for narrow-pitched connectors comes with distinct features like low clamping force, high injection molding pressure, and narrow gate size. Adding to the optimization analysis, the deflection of 0.5mm pitch FPC connector was analyzed as well. A maximum deflection of 0.053mm was calculated, which the actual deflection of 0.062mm was compared to. The results deduced a relative error of 17%. We conclude that the deflection analysis along with the optimization analysis can be used as an effective tool to predict the behavior of narrow-pitch connectors although the relative error may need to improve.

  • To investigate the critical buckling load and post-buckling behavior of an axially loaded pile entirely embedded in soil, the non-linear large deflection differential equation for a pinned pile, based on the Winkler-model and the discretionary distribution function of the foundation coefficient along pile shaft, was established by energy method. Assuming that the deflection function was a power series of some perturbation parameter according to the boundary condition and load in the pile, the non-linear large deflection differential equation was transformed to a series of linear differential equations by using perturbation approach. By taking the perturbation parameter at middle deflection, the higher-order asymptotic solution of load-deflection was then found. Effect of ratios of soil depth to pile length, and ratios of pile stiffness to soil stiffness on the critical buckling load and performance of piles (entirely embedded and partially embedded) after flexural buckling were analyzed. Results show that the buckling load capacity increases as the ratios of pile stiffness to soil stiffness increasing. The pile performance will be more stable when ratios of soil depth to pile length, and soil stiffness to pile stiffness decrease.

  • In this study (Part I), an advanced empirical formulation was proposed to predict the ultimate strength of initially deflected steel plate subjected to longitudinal compression. An advanced empirical formulation was proposed by adopting Initial Deflection Index (IDI) concept for plate element which is a function of plate slenderness ratio (${\beta}$) and coefficient of initial deflection. In case of initial deflection, buckling mode shape, which is mostly assumed type in the ships and offshore industry, was adopted. For the numerical simulation by ANSYS nonlinear finite element method (NLFEM), with a total of seven hundred 700 plate scenarios, including the combination of one hundred (100) cases of plate slenderness ratios with seven (7) representative initial deflection coefficients, were selected based on obtained probability density distributions of plate element from collected commercial ships. The obtained empirical formulation showed good agreement ($R^2=0.99$) with numerical simulation results. The obtained outcome with proposed procedure will be very useful in predicting the ultimate strength performance of plate element subjected to longitudinal compression.

  • Response of buried flexible pipe-soil system is studied, through numerical analysis, with respect to deflection and buckling in a spatially varying soil media. In numerical modeling procedure, soil parameters are modeled as two-dimensional non-Gaussian homogeneous random field using Cholesky decomposition technique. Numerical analysis is performed using random field theory combined with finite difference numerical code FLAC 5.0 (2D). Monte Carlo simulations are performed to obtain the statistics, i.e., mean and variance of deflection and circumferential (buckling) stresses of buried flexible pipe-soil system in a spatially varying soil media. Results are compared and discussed in the light of available analytical solutions as well as conventional numerical procedures in which soil parameters are considered as uniformly constant. The statistical information obtained from Monte Carlo simulations is further utilized for the reliability analysis of buried flexible pipe-soil system with respect to deflection and buckling. The results of the reliability analysis clearly demonstrate the influence of extent of variation and spatial correlation structure of soil parameters on the performance assessment of buried flexible pipe-soil systems, which is not well captured in conventional procedures.

  • Nomura Kohsan Corp. is producing oxides, such as ZnMn$_2$O$_4$, ZnFe$_2$O$_4$, and ZnO, by burning the used dry manganese cells and by sorting out the remnant materials. It is possible to use the recycled materials of the spent dry batteries as the raw materials of deflection yoke cores. Making hish roasting temperature in the recycling system has an effect in reduction of the impurities. As a result, the loss of the cores using the recycled materials is lower. When using the recycled materials, it is required to add Mg (OH)$_2$. ZnO, and Fe$_2$O$_3$in order to rectify the composition of the MnMgZn ferrite for deflection yoke core applications. Furthermore, in order to disappear ZnMn$_2$O$_4$in the formation, it is necessary to control at higher calcining temperatures. The MnMgZn ferrite of using the recycled materials becomes Toss equivalent to the conventional material. TDK Corp. is manufacturing the deflection yoke cores from 1996 using the material recycled from the spent dry batteries.
